At the last three events, Scotland has won 6, 11 and 9 golds out of 29, 29 and 26 total medals, finishing 10th, 6th and 10th in the Medals Table.

Given the usual home team boost, I'd hope Scotland would win at least ten golds and thirty medals overall, and maybe target an impressive top five place in the overall table.

The official targets are 11 or more golds to equal/beat the 2006 Melbourne record and at least 33 medals, matching the best-ever haul achieved in Edinburgh in 1986.

Good chance of a few in the swimming as well. Could pick up a medal in the 4 x 200, 4 x 100 and potentially 4 x 100 medley. Also Dan Wallace in the 200 IM could place, 80/1 at coral is huge as he's looking at a British record. Jaimo in the 200 breast should at least place but will be hoping for a gold.

Can't wait for this to get underway now.

It was a competitive year in 1986! Hardly anyone turned up due to the boycotts and Isle of Man were 8th in the medal table (2 places behind Scotland) with a solitary gold.

Our swimming team is excellent. Michael Jamieson, Robbie Renwick, Caitlin McClatchey and my personal favourite Hannah Miley. We should be getting multiple golds there or else It's a failure.

Does anyone know if we've a target position in the Medals Table itself? Every games since 1934, the top 3 have been Australia + Canada + Engand, most often by some margin (with exception of 1950 & 1954 when Canada slipped to 4th, their "annus horibilis" of 1958, and 1962).

More recently India has trailed that 'far ahead' group too, breaking-in at Delhi (2nd).

Any chance of us sneaking 5th? Since games expanded to current size that would've required:

(2002) 12 gold, or 11 gold + 14 silver, or 11 gold + 13 silver + 21 bronze

(2006) 13 gold, or 12 gold + 14 silver, or 12 gold + 13 silver + 13 bronze

(2010) 13 gold, or 12 gold + 12 silver, or 12 gold + 11 silver + 10 bronze

Canada got 30 golds in 2002, then 26 golds in 2006 and 26 again in 2010. It would be a huge collapse for them to drop into the teens and for us to catch them, tbh. They traditionally medal in e.g. diving, artistic gymnastics, non-track cycling, wrestling - most of which haven't started yet.

India's last 3 gold totals were 30, 22 and 38 (as hosts). Their strengths are e.g. racket sports, wrestling, shooting, hockey.

If we finish fifth or "best of the rest" if you will behind the four traditional powerhouses in Australia, Canada, England and India, it would be a great achievement.

Still, eminently possible.

Opening days were always likely to be our "big haul" - courtesy judo/track cycling/swimming - but various other opportunities to come.

Out of interest, why can Judo + Boxing award 2 bronzes per event?

In boxing it's because one or both losing semi-finalists could be KO-ed meaning they couldn't take part in a bronze medal bout.

Presumably there's something similar for the other combat sports (the same happens in the Olympics in taekwondo) .
