Larkhall Image Problem

I read with interest what the Larkhall Thistle manager Duncian Sinclair said about having problems signing players because the Larkhall Image.

Certainly at the Albert we have had no problem in that area, and I would also say that anyone who has any doubts about signing for Larkhall should forget these doubts as the club itself as long as I have been involved with the Albert nearly 15 seasons has never excepted or encouraged any sort of sectarian behaviour in fact I have seen spectators being asked to leave if they started any trouble.

Also big Duncan would never be with a club who condoned that behaviour.

Unfortunately that is the tag that Larkhall gets.

He could entice players to larkhall today. He'll have the town to himself. Everyone will be in Belfast.

This image is driven mostly by people who have never been to larkhall. A lot of which is driven by horrible newspapers like The Sun , their quality journalism of lets put a car covered in Celtic memorabilia and see what happens (answer nothing) the story about the green subway sign, also rubbish, many subways do not have green signs and the best was the no green sign at asda, which has opened and guess what, it's a giant green sign and all the staff wear green uniforms and the place hasn't burnt to the ground!

to be honest I do remember going to Larkhall for a game with Greenock many years ago and our club coach windows being smashed due to one of the lads having a Celtic game on the radio and him jumping about celebrating.. Local Larkhall fans took umbrage to this and smashed the windows... Unfortunately isolated incidents probably have tarnished the area and team as the old saying goes mud sticks!

He said f**k larkhall, he didn't say anything bigoted.

I am of a certain leaning in my support of a senior team, It would be easy for me to have a pop at larkhall but the truth is when we have played them they are just another junior team, another game i want to see us win that's it.

I know thre guys from larkhall , two still live there one doesn't, one is a rangers fan, one Celtic and one airdrie, all good guys and well educated .I think a lot of the stuff to do with larkhall is blown up out of all proportion and gives people who maybe never been or don't know anyone from the place a especially bad image of the place.

Never had any bigoted bother in larky.. However to say it's not there is ludicrous!! As us lads do we ventured for a few beers at half time to be met with Orange music banging out 2 pubs.. Didn't offend me I can't be bothered with both sides of Scotland's shame.. But it's there for all to see and hear!! Could easily say same about kilwinning. Being the mother lodge and all! But again never seen anything untoward aimed at any individuals.. I say who cares what way you are but do vs all a favour and keep it to f**k out juniors

I think the point is that it is not the club that's has the problems but it us an small minority who blacken all.

I know at St. Rochs they had a few idiots who dragged the team down. The new committee have made a concerted effort to rid themselves if that name. Which is credit to them.

In view of the chequered history between the clubs dating back to the famous 1970 Junior Cup tie on the same day Celtic v Rangers was postponed, I thought St Roch's might get mentioned in this thread at some point but not in such terms so thanks for the kind words Peter, you are correct that the current Committee at the Candy are not likely to tolerate anything which would blacken the Club's name.

There's only so much a Committee can do though as the Larkhall committee were great with us last time we visited nearly 2 years ago whereas the sizeable home support that day weren't as welcoming to be diplomatic. And I know of the 'welcome' Larkhall got at our place 4 years ago too.

I would strongly suspect that in both cases, home fans at those games have barely been at either ground since, if at all. The irony is, Larkhall Celtic was a name considered for Thistle at the time of their formation and John McStay is as much a Candy legend as he is at Larky.
