West Super League Premier Division

The West Super League Premier Division is a cracking product a a real value alternative to over priced Senior Football but is falling down in several areas. It would be a good idea for all of the Super Premier Clubs to meet to discuss how they can maximise their Income and improve the product offering.

Items for discussion would be East/West Super League -

provide a collective response

Fixture Scheduling -

As fas as possible fixtures should be issued in advance and played on a Saturday to maximise the number of attendees and allow Clubs to sell hospitality packages. How can this be achieved when you don't know next Saturday's fixture until the Sunday before?

Fixtures are scheduled at the start of the season for a few weeks and then we move into the farce of allowing weeks on end for Scottish Cup replays.

Games are lost through dodgy drainage and are caught up midweek at the end of the season losing much needed income had they been played on time on a Saturday. The League competition is devalued through teams having played significantly more or less games than others.

Size of the League

Should there be 16 teams?

Sponsorship

How can we attract more sponsorship? Meadow won £750 for being 2nd last year.

Admission Fees

£5 has been charged since 2002 and is too low. Every year costs have gone up but admission has stayed the same. Why should all Clubs be allowed to vote on pricing for a League that they don't play in?

Anyone agree/disagree?

Wouldn't disagree with you.

Problem is folk won't vote against replays in the Scottish as they won't diminish that or want to lose out on the cash that replays can generate and I can see their point.

To get more league games, you need to have less cup games. If the cups are sponsored they will lose that most likely if Premier and or First Div teams don't take part. Catch 22 with sponsorship there.

The prize money is another example why some clubs spending lots of money for success just doesn't add up. You don't do it for the prize money of course though.

£6 and £3 for entry isn't outlandish but did anyone propose it?

There's also the greater prize money associated with taking part in the Scottish Cup when you win the league. You probably earn more that way than through winning the league. And if you get through a couple of rounds there's a pop at one of the big guns. Would Meadow have survived their financial crisis of a few years ago without the money from the game against Hibs?

the attendances for junior games are already pretty poor. I can understand teams being worried about raising prices incase of making it worse. its only a pound but to "the older generation" who predominately attend junior games they may not be happy.

The live sky early premiership kick offs at just after noon would kill junior football off ten times more than a £1 increase in gaining admission.

Through my experience anyone who wants to be at a game will be there regardless of a paltry price increase.

Sky sports and jeff stelling are killing our game.

Do away with the Ayrshire and Central League Cups at start of season, move the Evening Times Cup as a pre-season glamour tourney including all the Cup Winners again and start the league season earlier incorporating League midweek games in August! Merge the league's and increase the sizes to increase each club's guaranteed income per season (11 home games is a ridicolously low amount to budget a whole season for....just ask Bankiebill) Not sure the ideal sizes but would go for 18, 22, 23 and the strength of the Super First potentially this year and last few years says that the team's coming up can compete. Would require a more organised fixture list and any postponement s during the season scheduled for the midweek dates from April onwards. All for Scottish replays but think there should be a 3 strikes and your out rule on postponements meaning after 3 it should be moved to a neutral 4g artificial venue regardless. I think there should be greater financially stability for every club and for us if we didn't win the 2 cups this year we would have really struggled financially esp after the Pie Hut Sabotage.Harsh Winter and I realise we could all be up s@#t creek come April but take out the necessity of ET Cup until start of next season and maybe it works. Also maybe revalues the ET Cup by including the Cup Winners as well and making it more competitive.

IMO on a few points.

Items for discussion would be East/West Super League - this is a no go for me , junior fans don't want to travel . up in a saturday morning , few pints them ower

ti the footie. thats the junior fan . the less travelling the better. for example. Lugar v Cumnock Ardagh game last season , more crowd at that game than was at a few Superleague matches that cumnock wis away to {and before any smart arsed comments appear , some of the away support at Townhead has been pretty poor},, reason . 1 mile up the road .

Size of the League
Should there be 16 teams? absobludyluty , 14 teams in the west super is to cutthroat .
Admission Fees
£5 has been charged since 2002 and is too low. depends if yur working or not , £5 not much to an earner , but ,,

Spot on rather play Troon, Arthurlie, Beith than Lochee and Bonnyrigg in the league.

Bigger away support from Irvine and people can go to every game if they wish with relatively little cost and get home quickly after the game.

Personally would miss some away league games if playing east teams in the league as full Saturday used going to football. Fine for Junior Cup games or odd friendlies but not run of the mill league games every second week. People would loose interest in their team and get out of habit of going home and away like a quite a large % of our regular supporters do.

  • 7 months later...

Rather than start a new thread now that we are dowto the nitty gritty, thought I would just bump this one. Current league table looks like this....

Pos Team Pld W D L F A GD Pts

1 Irvine Meadow X1 F.C. 18 12 3 3 41 19 22 39

2 Auchinleck Talbot F.C. 13 11 0 2 35 9 26 33

3 Petershill F.C. 18 10 2 6 28 25 3 32

4 Hurlford United F.C. 12 8 3 1 26 12 14 27

5 Glenafton Athletic F.C. 18 7 4 7 42 32 10 25

6 Beith Juniors F.C. 17 7 2 8 28 37 -9 23

7 Troon F.C. 17 5 6 6 28 33 -5 21

8 Arthurlie F.C. 14 6 1 7 20 24 -4 19

9 Shotts Bon Accord F.C. 15 5 0 10 16 36 -20 15

10 Cumnock Juniors F.C. 18 3 5 10 22 37 -15 14

11 Kilbirnie Ladeside F.C. 14 4 0 10 25 36 -11 12

12 Clydebank F.C. 16 2 4 10 15 26 -11 10

At the top end Meadow have had a real sticky spell after their great start of 10 straight wins, and have only won two of the next 8. They now sit in the same position we were in a couple of years back hoping that the chasing pack fall apart. They have to hope that Talbot and Hurlford get caught up with their Scottish Junior Cup involvement and if Meadow were to win their last 4 and get to 51 points then it might just be enough.

At the bottom I'll be surprised if the bottom 3 din't come from the current bottom 4, Clydebank and Cumnock probably need to win all their games to escape the playoff spot. Some crucial fixtures to come, especially those between the sides competing with each other at the top and bottom.

Games to play:

At the top:

Meadow: Talbot at home, Hurlford, Shotts and Troon away

Talbot: Arthurlie, Glenafton, Hurlford and Kilbirnie at home, Clydebank, Cumnock, Meadow, Kilbirnie and Petershill away

Hurlford: Arthurlie, Clydebank, Meadow, Petershill, Shotts and Troon at home, Talbot, Beith, Cumnock and Shotts away

At the bottom:

Shotts: Glenafton, Hurlford and Meadow at home, Arthurlie, Hurlford, Kilbirnie and Troon away

Cumnock: Talbot, Hurlford and Kilbirnie at home, Beith away

Kilbirnie: Arthurlie, Talbot Clydebank and Shotts at home, talbot, Beith, Clydebank and Cumnock away

Clydebank: Talbot, Beith, Kilbirnie and Troon at home, Hurlford and Kilbirnie away

This week's games:

Arthurlie v Beith

Cumnock v Kilbirnie

Petershill v Auchinleck

Shotts v Glenafton

Troon v Irvine Meadow

Talbot have never left Petershill Park empty handed btw.
