jamiefitz
There is a photo of him in a Sporting shirt, however I can't seem to paste it on here. It is refreshing to see a young Scottish player going to the Continent for their technical development as opposed to going to England.

ICTChris
Amazing banter aside, this could be an excellent move for him. It's certainly more interesting than the usual move to a Championship club for an SPL youngster. Good on him.

Northsea80
Fantastic stuff. I'm not sure what the set up is there but I imagine they will look to develop him through a b/u21 team initially before eventually stepping up to first team football. Six years shows they see it as a long term project.
Gordopolis
The 60mill Euro buy out clause sounds sensational - but perhaps it is quite normal when signing young stars with potential? I dunno. Either way, I think this is an excellent move for him. He's gone to a Champions League club where there is a realistic chance of him breaking into their team, he'll develop his game away from the normal scene most of our players experience, and he's avoided the usual route of going to Celtic or Wolves or the like. Hope he gets a chance there over the next season.
Lex
Great move for Gauld, hopefully more of our best youngsters follow suit. The days of what was the old firm cherry picking other Scottish teams best players are well and truly over now, and the national team should benefit as a result. SpoonTon
Excellent move for him, and as far as I'm aware that's not small money for Sporting.
gtbahfm
Excellent move for him, and as far as I'm aware that's not small money for Sporting. Agreed - I had a quick look at their past transfer history, and it looks like most of their signings are free transfers (although quite a few are 'undisclosed'), with the highest around the £6.5m mark. If they have paid £3m for Gauld (or even £2m, which has also been reported), then it's a pretty significant outlay for an 18-year-old. Will be very interesting to see if he plays B team or gets involved in the first team squad – for example, will he be named in their 23-man CL squad in September? Fingers crossed he has a good pre-season with them and does enough to get some first team matches.
AsimButtHitsASix
I don't think he needs to be listed in their squad to play due to his age
craigkillie
I don't think he needs to be listed in their squad to play due to his age I think he would have to be - I think the U21 list is for players who have spent 3 or more years at the club. ayrmad
Hopefully we can see a man approaching top class sometime in the future, must give the diddy clubs a bit of encouragement that they could benefit financially if they produce a decent standard of youngster.
