Newmains are delighted to have signed striker Martin McAteer for next season. The prolific scorer in amateur football had better offers from higher division Junior clubs but for reasons known to himself accepted our offer to join the new look Billy McKie Newmains United & as a club we're absolutely delighted with his decision.

Fullback Eddie McArdle has also rejoined after a spell at St Rochs, & 19 year old ex Queens Park left back Kieran Higgins has joined up. We're also delighted to sign James Duffy from Yett Farm BC. At 6'1, James played on trial v. Blantyre Vics & St Rochs, in the final two games of the season. At 15 years old & physically strong the boy looks a real find.

Midfielder Alan Allison resigned for another season. Rejected offers from junior teams nearer to his North Glasgow home to remain with the club. 11 out of 14 players offered deals from last seasons squad now resigned.

thanks mate good luck in the season ahead, sounds positive from your end :thumsup2

Easy to be positive at Newmains when your working with Billy McKie & Mr Sunshine himself Joe Roy.

Read quite often on P&b how well other managers are regarded, but Billy McKie is doing a superb job. Bringing in Joe as assistant, his signings in January changed the team completely, adding Shona White as physio & keeping Ian McKnight have the dressing room buzzing. The fact 11 players have decided to stay when a number had offers elsewhere shows the players are buying into what Billy's trying to do.

Billy also has involved himself in arranging meetings with the council which has resulted in the club being promised a new ground within 3 years, and for the current pavilion to be renovated.

Work started to the pavilion last week so the council have been as good as their word. The inside of the pavilion had become an embarrassment to all connected to the club.

Looking good for newmains.

Very impressed with them at the end of last season and would not be surprised if they were up near the other end of the table this year.

All the best for the season from the wanderers

Thanks for your nice words Tambo.

Look forward to seeing who Forth sign this close season, any million £ plus deals in the pipeline? Lol.

Look forward to our games against Wanderers next season & all the best to your club.

Three more signings.

Midfielder Martin Reilly (Ex Airdrie & Queen of South youth), John Bulloch (Wishaw) & Peter Byrne (Royal Albert).

John & Peter both had past spells at the club.

Did young lad Byrne play for Wishaw also? Decent young player - one for the future.

Centre half Scott McKellar tonight became clubs 9th summer signing.

The former Albion Rovers, Cambuslang Rangers & EK Thistle defender was one of manager Billy McKie's top targets and rejoins after having a short 2 game spell at the club last season.

Craigmark 7, Newmains 0.

Shocking United performance. Actually, worse than that.

On the positive side, better to find out early preseason which players look up to the task of improving the side. Sometimes you find out more about your team in defeat than you do in an easy win!!!

Newmains. 1

Ayr Utd U20's. 4

With 8 signed players unavailable, United produced a much improved performance from Saturday. A stunning 45 yard Alan Allison chip shot had United level 1-1 at half time.

The use of trialists/squad players & rolling subs in the second half allowed Ayr to take control of the second half, although 4-1 was a bit flattering scoreline.

After the game, United released Ally Gray, Brian McKinlay, Greg Kane & Danny Gallagher.
