Going down to 10 men that early and score another 3 and only concede 1 sounds like solid defence and clinical up front.

....................................................................................................................

Kelty Hearts look solid all over the park STL, our midfield looks particularly strong this season with everyone seemingly well aware of what`s required of them.

What we all need to remember is that the lads have not long been put together so there is every opportunity for them to improve further as the season progresses, this will require hard work, dedication, & most importantly discipline.

Kelty Hearts face a potentially hazardous away tie at Broxburn next week, a side that took maximum points from us last season, get along & support the team, good luck lads.

These games are especially important for the boys not getting involved in the first 11 at the moment.

Its their chance to show the management team they are willing & able to step right in & do a job if & when circumstances present, its about attitude & being a team man.

Its a long season & we will need all the players in our Squad to get through it.

Broxburn 3 Kelty Hearts 3

Starting Line Up:

Allison

Morrison - T Courts - Duffin - Leighton

Ritchie - Forbes - McCabe - C Courts

Lawrie - Cargill

Subs Used:

Greig - O'Neil - Manson

A strange game to watch in many ways as it threw up a few firsts for Kelty.

First time we have lost more than 1 goal in a game, first time we have been behind in a match this season & fist time we have encountered this type of surface.

Watching the warm ups it was quite evident which team were more comfortable with the prevailing conditions.

That aside, both sides should be congratulated for putting on a thoroughly entertaining match.

It was a fairly evenly contested first half though it has to be said that Kelty had the better chances.

The Broxburn keeper was called upon to make a good close range save from a Mark Morrison header.A short while after Scott Lawrie was unfortunate not to score when he hit the post with a rasping shot from the angle of the box.Kelty had a couple of half chances in this period also as they pressed for the opener.

Broxburn always looked tidy & capable in attck however & took the lead with a cool finish, the lad lobbing Kyle Allison after a ball over the top.

Five minutes or so before half time Mark Morrison leveled for Kelty with a lovely strike after a good move in which he also played an earlier part in the build up.

Ht 1-1

Broxburn started the 2nd half the better & it wasn't long before we found ourselves 2-1 down after a cracking strike which may have taken a slight deflection to beat Kyle Allison in the Kelty goal.

The game was running away from Kelty a wee bit at this point as Broxburn were winning the midfield battle.

Kelty then made a double substitution bringing on Captain Shaun Grieg for Mark Forbes & Shaun O'Neil for Scott Lawrie.

Kelty were given a bit of a lifeline back into the match when a clumsy challenge by a Broxburn player in the box sent Brian Ritchie to the ground. They were reduced to ten men as a result & Stuart Cargill slotted away the penalty kick to make it 2-2.

Kelty were keeping better possession at this stage & were applying a constant pressure without ever penetrating the Broxburn defence.

Kelty made their 3rd substitution bringing on Stevie Manson for Nelly McCabe in a final attempt to take all 3 points

Broxburn still looked lively on the break however despite playing with 10 men.The home side made it 3-2 with around 5 - 10 mins to go after a stunning header left Kyle Allison in the Kelty goal with no chance.

Time looked to be running out for Kelty when Stevie Manson came into possession of the ball on the angle of the box & curled a fantastic strike into the out-stretched keepers bottom left corner to make it 3-3.

A really good game to watch then with plenty of twists & turns.

The Lads had to dig deep to get that point today against a very capable Broxburn outfit.Having to come from behind on three separate occasions would not have been the plan for Kelty Hearts though they showed great character in doing so.

Well done team Kelty.

Fair assessment and I think we have found a match reporter for our website, although it'll need to be shortened a little to fit on the front page lol

We should have went in 1 goal up at half time after it took us 15 mins to get used to the surface and get a foothold in the game. Mark Morrison who had an excellent 1st half scored a cracker of a goal.

Massive credit to our lads who showed great character to come from behind 3 times and we could have nicked it at the end.

A point was probably a fair reflection although IMO if we had went in front during the game it could have been different but not too down heartened with a point as it's a tough place to go, unbeaten still and it's been a great start to the season, a start that we would have taken all day long.

Couple of negatives which have been few and far between this season was that we lost a couple of bad goals which is not like us, caught out from a long ball for the 1st and gave away possession under no pressure where they scored from the resultant throw in.

Re - Broxburn's first goal.

That space between the keeper & his defensive line can prove difficult to marshall at times.

Any ball over the top into that area that causes central defenders turn & move can be a killer, especially if they are up against pace.

Keepers often need to make the call whether to help out in these sorts of situations as they see what's unfolding in front of them.

Communication & speed of thought are vital however as any hesitation can leave things open, as happened yesterday.

All the boys can do is give of their best each week & see where it takes us.

Looking forward to the Scottish Cup first round on Saturday, managed to get a change of shift at work so will be able to make the trip.

Glentanar FC 0 Kelty Hearts 7

Kelty Hearts : Allison - Morrison - T Courts - Duffin - Leighton - Ritchie - McCabe - Greig - C Courts - Cargill - Lawrie - O`Neil - Mc Dowell - Manson .

Goals : Manson (3) : Cargill (2) : Lawrie : McCabe :

A fine morning weather wise and after a hearty team breakfast at Central Park, Kelty Hearts made the 220 mile round trip to Woodside Sports Complex Aberdeen to face North 1st Division (East) side Glentanar FC in the 1st round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Glentanar & Kelty are not unfamiliar with one another having met twice before in the competition most notably in 1998 when `The Hearts` went on to reach their first Scottish Junior Cup Final.

After some nifty work by the bus driver who had to navigate the 53 seater down an almost impossible winding cobbled road full of overhead trees & the occasional height restricting bridge, team Kelty finally arrived at their destination followed on by the supporters bus.

Glentanar came into this one on the back of some mixed results in their domestic league, whilst Kelty had been acquitting themselves admirably, undefeated in all competitions to date.

Kelty started the match well, on (2) mins Conrad Courts sending in a fine cross which was met at the back post by the `poaching` Scott Lawrie who headed high into the Glens net 1-0 Kelty.

Hearts were dominating the play early doors, on (7) mins a Stuart Cargill cut-back found Scott Lawrie 12 yards from goal his close range shot being well saved by the Glens keeper.

On the lookout for a 2nd (13) mins, a Brian Ritchie knock- down found Shaun Greig 18 yards out, he caught the ball on the half volley just missing the target high to the right.

The game seemed to take a turn for the worse at this stage as the ball was holding up on grass which may have benefited from another cut, both sides were struggling to get any cohesion into their play. The next meaningful chance fell to Stuart Cargill on (26) mins who sidestepped a Glens defender but pulled his effort just left of goal. Two mins later Cargs was through again with a defender in close attendance, he managed to round the keeper but was forced wide & hit the post from an acute angle. Although chances were still being made the general play was becoming increasingly untidy & laboured with Kelty appearing to have dropped a level & the honest hard working Glens side making it difficult to play.

An element of frustration appeared to set into the match when the Glens number 5 was booked on (29) mins for a wild challenge on Brian Ritchie.

Kelty were reduced to 10 men on (35) mins, as Mark Morrison was given a straight red, the Referee taking a view on a dissent related incident.

Hearts managed to go 2-0 up through a penalty on (44) mins after a push in the box, Stuart Cargill making no mistake from the spot.

HT - Glentanar 0 Kelty 2

Nelly McCabe switched to right back at the start of the 2nd half in place of Mark Morrison, (47) mins in, Kelty meant business, a great surging run by Nelly McCabe laid off to Cargs just inside the Glens box, Cargs close range shot was saved by Glens keeper, Nelly McCabe moved in to slot the rebound into the Glens net 3-0 Kelty.

Sub: Kelty (49) mins Sean O`Neil on for Scott Lawrie, Kelty were knocking the ball around a lot better now, far sharper in fact as Gary Leighton played a nice one two on the edge of the box but shot into side netting. Glens had their first shot on goal on (62) mins when their number 11 hit a well taken strike just over the bar from a defensive clearance , Kyle Allison had it covered in Kelty goal.

Sub: Kelty (63) mins Murray McDowell on for Nelly McCabe, Glens made a rare foray into the Kelty final third & forced a free kick on (68) mins, Glens number 9 curled the ball round the Kelty wall & hit the outside of Kyle Allison`s left hand post.

The Game was opening up now when Conrad Courts flighted a lovely ball into Stuart Cargill`s path he bore down on goal but his shot was saved well by the Glens keeper.

Sub: Glens (70) mins number (10) for (17) The home side were struggling to cope with Kelty at this point as Cargs was played in over the top but stumbled just as he was about to pull the trigger, the ball rolling harmlessly to the Glens keeper.

Kelty were in full flow as Stuart Cargill was played in again he beat one defender then the number (5) (who had already been booked) pulled him down in the box, penalty Hearts, Glens were reduced to 10 men.

Cargs drilled the penalty to the keepers left to make it 4-0 Kelty.

Sub: Kelty (74) mins Stevie Manson on for Stuart Cargill, good link up play finds Brian Ritchie in space who lets loose with a 30 yard drive which sails just over the bar. A minute later Stevie Manson pauses & commits a Glens defender in the penalty area then slots home a cool finish beneath the keeper 5-0 Kelty. After some great passing & moving by the Hearts the ball finds Brian Ritchie in the Glens box on (80) mins his header going just wide of the Glens post.

Subs: Glens (81) mins (7 & 8 ) off (12 & 14 ) on , (82) mins good play from Hearts Stevie Manson gathers ball in the box beats 2 Glens defenders & picks his spot on the keepers left hand side, class finish from Manse, 6-0 Kelty.

Glens could be forgiven looking for the final whistle with (3) mins to go as Hearts were a joy to watch, Murray McDowell burst through a gap between 2 Glens defenders but was pulled down just outside the box, Conrad Courts went close with the resulting free - kick, the ball going just over the Glens bar.

On (89) mins Stevie Manson completed a quick fire hat-trick with another classy finish, spearing that left side of goal again giving the Glens keeper absolutely no chance, full time 7-0 Kelty.

Well done team Kelty & thanks to Glentanar FC for the hospitality yesterday which was first class all round.

Aye James, the more the better, bit of a shock up at East Craigie though, heard the Haws were struggling for players on Saturday, not sure if that is accurate or not?

My sources say that you're correct. John McCulloch and the goalie coaches son made up the bench with McCulloch having to come on after 20 mins. A midfield 4 compromised of strikers and the front 2 were not experienced and have also played midfield quite a bit. Thought the Haws had made a few decent signings in the summer but seem to be lacking in numbers due to injuries, suspensions and other reasons.

Good to see one of my former clubs in Kelty Hearts going well though.

Ive only seen them play the Rose this season and i thought they were the worst Haws side ive seen.

The `Haws` played away quite well against Kelty Hearts, was a well contested match.

The guy that informed about Haws player problems on Saturday said they were over-run by Newtongrange Star the week before though, apparently it was 3 going on 8, said `Nitten` were the best team he has seen the `Haws` play so far this season, by a long way.

A mid four made of strikers and a front two of guys that have played a bit in midfield? Did HoB pick a team by putting the names in a hat? Surely the ones that had played in midfield should have played there? No?

Kelty have placed long serving players, defender Clark Kay & midfielder Mark Forbes on the transfer list, both players have been at Kelty for around 5 seasons and were very popular in and around the club but have found it difficult to get into the side this season due to our current form.
