Fife And Lothians Cup (1st Round)

(Central Park) Kelty

Kelty Hearts 2 v 2 West Calder United

Kelty Hearts won (5-3) on penalties.

Goals:

Kelty Hearts : Stuart Cargill (73) Craig O`Reilly (76)

West Calder United : Anthony Brown 8 Ross Fox (15)

Kelty Hearts:

Kyle Allison - Roger Duffin - Tam Courts - Sean O'Neil - Clark Kay - Sean Greig - Brian Ritchie - Conrad Courts - Stuart Cargill - Sean Grady - Craig O'Reilly.

Subs : Nelly McCabe - Scott Lawrie - Gary Greenhill.

West Calder United:

Gavin Mc Quillan - Kevin Ross - Lawrence Brown - John Scullion - William Gardiner - Keith Paton - Anthony McLaughlin - Darren Fleming - Anthony Brown - Ross Fox - Jake Carson.

Subs: Grant Sneddon - David Aitken - Ross Sneddon - Callum Heeps - Steven Fyffe.

The heavy rain that had fallen all over the region throughout the night & early morning showed no ill effects on the excellent Kelty Hearts pitch which looked the proverbial picture prior to kick - off.

Kelty Hearts had played twelve competitive matches to date scoring an impressive 49 goals in the process.

Strong favourite`s going into this Fife & Lothians Cup tie then, it would not be unfair to state that the East Superleague leaders were expected by most to get the job done with something to spare.

Opponents West Calder Utd however boasted a decent record themselves from their opening matches in the McBookie.com South Division, losing only 1 in 8.

Personable West Calder Utd Chairman Gus Lamie spoke fondly of this relatively young Utd side pre-match. Stating that although resulting draws had been restricting their league campaign a little this season, `The Cauther` had been applying themselves with credit to date.

Kelty Hearts missing Gary Leighton injured, Mark Morrison suspended, Stevie Manson holiday.

Recent (transfer list) Mark Forbes unavailable, Clark Kay (transfer list) in at left back for his first competitive match of the season, with Sean Grady ex - Bonnyrigg Rose making his Kelty Hearts debut.

The Match:

Early indications are that this game is not going to go to script as an uncharacteristic mistake by Kyle Allison in the Kelty goal falls to `Utd` centre forward Anthony Brown who is on hand to finish from close range after 8 mins 1-0 West Calder.

Kelty although enjoying most of the early possession are struggling to get thing`s going when a nice break by West Calder ends in a desperate hand ball save and a straight red for Kelty Hearts central defender Sean O`Neil on (15) mins.

Penalty West Calder and a booking for Kelty`s Conrad Courts which may have been for complaining?

West Calder`s Ross Fox steps up to take the penalty kick and puts it away confidently 2-0 West Calder, Kelty reduced to 10 men.

An on field call is made by Kelty player/manager Tam Courts which see`s Clark Kay moving to central defence from left back and Conrad Courts switching to left back from left midfield.

Kelty go close (26) when Conrad Courts deliveres a peach of a free kick to the Calder back post but the pace of the ball just beats Sean Grady who fails by a whisker to connect. A minute later slick lead up play by West Calder goes just astray at the business end as centre forward Anthony Brown gathers in and shows great movement turning and striking a shot just wide right of the Kelty goal. West Calder`s Jake Carson is making great inroads into the left side of Kelty`s defence (31) with a pacey run when he is pulled down by Kelty captain Sean Greig who goes into the book.

Kelty are still having most of the possession but are reduced to half chances and finding it difficult to get anything tangible from the West Calder central defensive pairing of John Scullion and William Gardner who are standing up manfully to the task at hand.

The game is being keenly fought throughout as 10 men Kelty are trying to get back into things with West Calder not for giving an inch and looking more than tidy up front when opportunity presents.

Kelty`s Tam Courts see`s yellow (40) for a challenge from behind on Anthony Brown. Not long after Calder`s Anthony McLaughlin finds himself in trouble with Referee as he goes into the book as well deemed to have pulled down Conrad Courts near the edge of the Calder 18 yard box.

Good link up play between Stuart Cargill and Craig O`Reilly invites West Calder keeper Gavin McQuillan into play for the first time on (42) as he has to marshall a good shot to the left of his goal from Craig O`Reilly. Battle scars are beginning to show on(43) as Tam Courts has to go off for treatment for a bloody nose.

HT: Kelty Hearts 0 West Calder Utd 2

Sub Kelty: Roger Duffin off: Nelly McCabe on:

At the start of the 2nd half in what appears to be a tactical decision.

Kelty try as they might are still not making much headway through West Calder`s compact defence with (55) mins gone.

Sub: Kelty (56) Shaun Greig off: Gary Greenhill on:

West Calder`s Ross Fox brings down Stuart Cargill midway inside the Calder half on (57) and finds himself in the referee`s book.

Conrad Courts finds Brian Ritchie with a pass 30 yards out on (61) who hits a shot that`s heading into Gavin McQuillan`s top left hand corner before he manages to parry over the bar.

Gary Greenhill booked (63) after a lunging challenge on Calder`s Kevin Ross .

Not long after Gary Greenhill goes close with a low drilled effort from 25 yards going just wide of the Calder right hand post.

The best move of the game comes on (65) Craig O`Reilly gathers in the ball with his back to goal & lays off to Nelly McCabe making the overlapping run on the outside, Nelly sends in a great ball to the back post which finds Stuart Cargill measuring a header into the path of the emerging Brian Ritchie who rakes in a shot from close range that is somehow kept out with Calder body`s throwing themselves left and right for the cause.

This was better from Kelty Hearts who were moving it around much faster now and were beginning to get in behind the West Calder defence.

Kelty`s Murray McDowell is given a yellow card (67) must have been something said from the dugout area?

Sub: Kelty (67) Shaun Grady off: Scott Lawrie on:

Ten man Kelty were on the ascendancy (70) as Craig O`Reilly strikes another hand warmer from 25 yards for Gavin McQuillan to deal with in the Calder goal. The breakthrough for Kelty Hearts comes on (73) when a great ball into the box finds Stuart Cargill who sends a glancing header home to make it Hearts 1 Calder 2.

Three minutes later Kelty Hearts gain a free kick on the right hand side of the West Calder box.

Conrad Courts sends in a wicked delivery into the penalty area to find Craig O` Reilly who turns and strikes an unstoppable left footed shot into the left hand corner of the Calder net to make it all square at 2-2.

Sub: West Calder (80) Jake Carson off: Calum Heeps on:

A few baffled looks from both sets of supporters in the enclosure on (84) as Calder keeper Gavin McQuillan`s name is added to a growing list of players in the refs book?

Sub: West Calder (87) Anthony Brown off: Steven Fyffe on:

An admirable shift from the Calder centre forward who will give plenty of defences trouble on today`s showing. With a minute to go Calder left back Lawrence Brown brings down Brian Ritchie around 35 yards from goal as Kelty press for the winner. A great shot from a Craig O`Reilly free kick is saved by Gavin McQuillan to the right hand side of his goal. A few minutes later the game is into injury time when Kelty`s Nelly McCabe is booked for a clumsy challenge on Calder`s Kevin Ross.

Full Time : 2-2

Penalty Decider:

Kelty`s five pens are all taken really well with Kyle Allison making the crucial save in a 5-3 shoot out victory.

............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Loads of bookings in a match that was nothing more than competitive, though to be fair to the ref he did let a few go as well.

Special thanks goes to West Calder Utd Chairman daughter Lyndsay Lamie who went out of her way to help with their team sheet & congrats to her friend who was delighted with her £3 bet on the draw on today`s match at 8/1 with Mc Bookie.

Best of luck to West Calder for the rest of the season.

Are Kelty going to have the players missing from this week available for the Musselburgh game next week.

Is Duffin now injured ? and is Sean Oneill suspended now ?.

Sean O`Neil is likely to be suspended STL, was`nt aware Roger was injured in the match appeared to be fine afterwards, looked to be a tactical change when he was replaced by Nelly at half - time, could be wrong though?
Hearts should have Mark Morrison back from suspension - Gary Leighton`s injury was`nt expected to keep him out for too long so has every chance - Stevie Manson should be back from holiday and also available for selection.
*Update* - Roger was injured - Sean O`Neil is not suspended for the handball sending off apparently.

One or two let themselves down Saturday (past) falling well below the standards they have set themselves this season.
Hopefully there will be a response, top players generally know when they have put in a bad one and dont spare much time about setting thing`s right.

Kelty Hearts 4 - 1 Musselburgh Athletic

A hard fought victory today over a talented Musselburgh Athletic side.

Mussy went ahead mid way through the 1st half & had a few other chances as well, they move the ball about well and have a couple of robust strikers who know how to work a defence.

That said I felt TC and our defence were Immense today, nothing more than a top showing was going to do.

Kelty equalised through Craig O`Reilly with a wonderful left footed strike from 20 yards just before half time which was our first real attempt on goal.

The game looked in the balance at this stage.

1-1 HT

Kelty Hearts came out the blocks quickly in the 2nd half going 2-1 up through Sean Grady who put in a great shift, well done Sean son.

Kelty`s 3rd was a really well worked effort, after a string of well placed passes & more importantly great movement off the ball, Sean Grady was there again to bag his 2nd of the game.

Mussy to their credit were still knocking it about well and looked dangerous throughout, we had to defend well as a unit on more than one occasion.

Craig O`Reilly scored a beauty with his right foot this time from 25 yards to make it 4-1 Kelty.

A good honest performance from all the lads today.

well done team Kelty.

Tbf all the guys that have been playing are doing a good job.

The team is being handled really well, everyone will want to play but football is definitely a squad game these days.Had a new guy warming up with Kelty pre-match yesterday who looked tidy as well, apparently he had been training with us leading up to the match, wasn't down to play but looked the part.

Was a really good team performance from the lads yesterday they had to dig that one out, played some nice stuff at times as well.

Mussy were very good on the day but when Hearts stepped it up in periods of the 2nd half it would be fair to say the game ran away from them a wee bit.

Great win yesterday, the cracking strike by Craig O'Reilly before half time was crucial, Tam pulled off a master stroke after half time and Mussy couldn't handle us up top.

Wee mention to our back 4 yesterday as the boys getting the goals rightly get the limelight, but Mark Morrison, Bi Shak, the gaffer and Garry Leighton were outstanding yesterday, Musselburgh were good going forward but after a sticky 15 minute spell the boys got it together and dominated.

This gives the team the platform to go forward with confidence, both full backs got forward too with Gaz Leighton setting up Sean Grady for the important 2nd goal with a great cross.

(WK 1) Broxburn 1 v 1 Fauldhouse Utd

Report from the Fauldhouse United

Point Proved

History in the making as Fauldhouse United took to the field against Broxburn Athletic at Albyn Park in the East Superleague for the first time. United were lively early on with three corner kicks in the first five minutes and only a great save from ex Fauldhouse keeper Gary Maley prevented United from taking the lead as he tipped it round the post. Just as "The House" were settling in to some kind of rhythm, on twelve minutes Broxburn on their first attack scored a curling shot finding its way past Murphy in goal....Broxburn 1 Fauldhouse 0. A half chance eight minutes later when the ball came off a Broxburn defender and Jordon Love was first to react but shot wide of the post. Broxburn replied with a rasping shot just over the bar as they started to take a grip of the game. The game was end to end with both teams having chances but with no more scoring both sides went in at half time with a 1-0 advantage for the home side.

Fauldhouse were on the back foot early on as Broxburn tried to increase their lead, a scramble in the box led to Jamie Gallagher clearing the danger. Ross Donnelly was unlucky not to equalise when his shot caught out Maley who could only parry it away. New signings Hugh Kelly and Jamie Robertson came on late in the second half and both made an immediate impact especially Jamie whose pace caused the Broxy defence all sorts of problems. Just as time was running out and it seemed Uniteds efforts were all in vain another sub Craig Chilton played in Jamie Robertson who cut inside the 18yd box and picked out Jordon Love and the striker flicked it by Gary Maley..... 1-1 and no more than Fauldhouse deserved at a park that not a lot of teams will pick up many points.

So an impressive debut in the Superleague and lets hope we can continue and progress sitting at the top table with the big boys.

Fauldhouse United: Murphy, Browne, Ramsay, Ross, Gallagher, Campbell, Deans, Scott, Love, Donnelly, Wilkins. Subs: Hamill, Robertson,Kelly, Chilton.

(WK 2) Fauldhouse Utd 4 v 0 Camelon Juniors

Report from Fauldhouse United

Mariners Sunk Without a Trace

A tribute to our President Peter Lynch who passed away recently was met by a minute's applause and started our first Superleague game at Parkview. Fauldhouse showed they were not in awe of their opponents with Mark Wilkins firing a shot over the bar in only four minutes. Shortly after McLaren in the away goal got his foot to a Ross Donnelly shot and cleared. Sam Scott went on a mazy run on eighteen minutes but ran out of steam as he was bearing down on goal. Wright was Camelon's best player at this point and was unlucky when his shot just went inches wide. Fauldhouse took the lead on twenty one minutes when Mark Wilkins finished off a good passing move and showed good composure to place the ball pass the keeper .... Fauldhouse 1 Camelon 0. Camelons best efforts were on the break but United's defence kept them at bay, half time Fauldhouse 1 Camelon 0.

Same start as the first with Fauldhouse on the attack and Jamie Robertson rattling the post early on. Fauldhouse were looking good to increase their lead with good raids down the right wing and Jamie Robertson in particular causing the Camelon defence all sorts of problems. On the hour mark the second goal duly arrived when Ross Donnelly was poleaxed in the box and a penalty awarded, up stepped captain Clark Campbell and netted from the spot ... Fauldhouse 2 Camelon 0. United increased the lead on seventy three minutes when sub Craig Chilton got his pass in behind the Camelon defence and found Mark Wilkins, he scored his second and United's third game over! With only ten minutes left on the clock Jamie Robertson rounded off a good display with a pinpoint cross and big Jamie Gallagher got his head to it giving the keeper no chance, 4-0. Full time score Fauldhouse United 4 Camelon Junior 0.

A great performance from everyone but a special mention for Mark Wilkins who following on from mid-week put in a tireless display and stole the show, early days but looking good at this stage, keep it up.

Fauldhouse United: Murphy, Deans, Ramsay, Ross, Gallagher, Campbell, Robertson, Scott, Love, Donnely, Wilkins subs: Peace(gk), Browne, Fallon, Chilton, Hamill.

Camelon Juniors: McLaren, Bell, Devlin, Graham, Benton, Donaldson, M Cooper, Ure, Wright, Stevenson, Fullerton subs: Clarke, C Scott, R Scott, J Cooper.

(WK 3) H.O.B 3 v 3 Fauldhouse Utd

Report from the Fauldhouse United

United put the wind up the "Haws"

Our first trip over the bridge this season as we continue our journey in the top flight, away at Hill of Beath, and it seemed to hold no fears as we set about taking the game to our hosts. Things could have turned out for the worst though after only six minutes when the "Haws" had a goal rightly ruled out for off side. Craig Chilton combined well with Sam Scott, Sam's shot saw the "Haws" goalie Hall get down to block and when it fell to Ross Donnelly he shot narrowly over. With the wind behind us Hill of Beath were on the back foot and when Ross raced into the 18yd box he was chopped down....penalty! and with fifteen minutes gone up stepped Craig Chilton to place his spot kick in the bottom left hand corner .. Hill of Beath 0 Fauldhouse 1. United kept up the pressure and Sam Scott brought out another fine save from Hall in the home goal. Twenty-five minutes in and another penalty award this time for Hill of Beath, Adamson scored to make it one each. That goal spurred on the home side and minutes later Adamson again shot just wide. Fauldhouse went back in front on forty two minutes, a free kick from Drew Ramsay into the area came back off the post and Ross Donnelly was alert to tap in, 2-1 the House. Half time Hill of Beath 1 Fauldhouse United 2.

Fauldhouse came out second half this time playing against the wind and from a corner kick after only three minutes let in Hill of Beath for their equaliser 2-2. Again Fauldhouse wouldn't lie down, two minutes later Jamie Robertson played in Ross Donnelly and for the second time in the match was brought down inside the box ... penalty! Craig Chilton put it away for his second goal of the game and United's third, 3-2 the House. The game turned just short of the hour mark when Ross Donnelly was yellow carded for the second time and sent off and that coupled with playing into a strong wind meant we were going to be up against it for the last half hour or so. Manager Davey Cowan made a couple of changes taking off Craig Chilton and Jamie Robertson and bringing on Michael Browne and Gary Fallon to stiffen up the mid field. A good cross from Drew Ramsay to Jason Deans and from 20yds out Jason's shot was tipped over the bar. Ten minutes left on the clock the equaliser came for the third time, with a deflection. United held on for the remaining minutes and i'm sure with eleven men on the park we could have come home with all three points, still a great start and after three games unbeaten much to be encouraged about. Final score Hill of Beath 3 Fauldhouse United 3.

Fauldhouse United: Trialist(gk), Deans, Ramsay, Ross, Gallagher, Campbell, Robertson, Scott, Chilton, Donnelly, Wilkins. Subs: Browne, Fallon, Kelly, Hamill, Smith.

Hill of Beath: Hall, Lee, Byle, McKenzie, Dair, Wright, Gemmell, Smith, Hay, Adamson, Shaw. Subs: Couser(gk), Anthony, Bathgate, Adam.

"The Parkview"

(WK 4) Fauldhouse Utd 0 v 0 Armadale Thistle

Report from Fauldhouse United

Stung at home by Thistle!

A local derby against near neighbours Armadale Thistle at Parkview and it was Thistle who started the livelier taking control of the mid field and forcing a few corners early on. It took quarter of an hour before United's Jamie Robertson had a shot on goal but Walker came out top and saved with his feet. Thistle replied with quick fire shots from Mauchline and Feeney as they pressed for the opener. A high ball into the area had Andy Murphy rushing out to block the ball and it went out for another Thistle corner. Just before the break Jamie Robertson was unlucky with a free kick which was touched onto the bar by Walker...Fauldhouse United 0 Armadale Thistle 0.

After a first half in which Armadale looked to have had the better of the play Fauldhouse began to get a bit more adventurous, a Ross Donnelly mazy run saw him cut the ball back for Clark Campbell to fire in a fierce shot towards goal but again Walker saved the day. Fauldhouse had the ball in the net half way through the second half when after a clever move down the right Robertson tucked it away but it was ruled out for off side...debatable! Two more point blank save from the Dales goalie Walker kept it goalless and a draw about a fair result. Full time Fauldhouse United 0 Armadale Thistle 0.

After a lackluster start United could have sneaked it on clear cut chances and i'm sure Thistle will be more than happy with a point away from home.

(WK 6) Faulhouse Utd 2 v 3 Bonnyrigg Rose

Report from Fauldhouse United

The Rose not for wilting.

The first meeting between the two teams in the league for fourteen years and Parkview was the venue. Both sides started in the same manner trying to get on the attack at every opportunity and nobody dominating. The first decent chance fell to Woodburn for the Rose sending a looping header just over the crossbar followed by a cut back from Smith which whizzed across goal with no takers. The first goal came on twenty eight minutes when Jamie Gallagher was barged in the box jumping for a header and a penalty given, Craig Chilton stepped up to take the spot kick and blasted home...Fauldhouse Utd. 1 Bonnyrigg Rose 0. It got better only minutes later, a great move started by Gary Shanks saw Drew Ramsay sprinting down the left and picking out Shankswho curled the ball past Easton...Fauldhouse Utd. 2 Bonnyrigg Rose 0. The Rose tried to hit back before the break with McLeish going close, Half-Time Fauldhouse Utd 2 Bonnyrigg Rose 0.

Bonnyrigg came out keener in the second half hoping to get back in the game and it only took eight minutes and what a goal, from a slack ball across the middle of the park Whitson gathered and a few unchallenged strides later let fly and sent a screamer passed Andy Murphy in goal...2-1. Although Woodburn was second yellow carded and sent off for kicking the ball at Love the ten men still looked the better side at this point. With ten minutes left another penalty was awarded this time to the Rose and it was converted by Grady for the equaliser... 2-2. Things went from bad to worse with only five minutes left on the clock Horne fired home the winner for the away side then minutes later Jason Deans got his second yellow card of the game and was sent packing. Final score Fauldhouse United 2 Bonnyrigg Rose 3.

A wake up call there won't be any teams rolling over in this league a full 90 minutes is a must.

(WK 7) Sauchie Juniors 2 v 2 Fauldhouse Utd

(WK 8 Boness Utd 3 v 0 Fauldhouse Utd

Report from the Fauldhouse United

No joy.

A chance to pit our wits against the defending champions saw us take on Bo'ness United away. Seven minutes on the clock and the first effort on goal fell to the home side as Andy Murphy was crowded out in the box jumping for a ball he was relieved to see it come back off his post. The men in blue were calling all the shots up till now but without making any inroads . It took half an hour for the House to get a decent sight at goal with a mistake by keeper Peat who rushed out to clear the ball but only succeeding in finding Mark Wilkins who fired it towards goal and it went inches wide. As half time approached Bo'ness looked the better side although Fauldhouse were still not out of it....Half-time Bo'ness United 0 Fauldhouse United 0.

Second half saw Michael Browne coming on for Euan Ramsey as Fauldhouse took a more direct approach, Drew Ramsay and Ross Donnelly combined to play in Gary Shanks and his fierce effort flew by the post. The first ten minutes were looking promising but some haphazard defending led to the opener for the home side Kevin Ross was caught short and dispossessed on the edge of the eighteen yard box and with only Andy Murphy to beat Gribben said thank you very much and tucked it away...Bo'ness Utd. 1 Fauldhouse Utd. 0. The game was finished as a contest with quarter of an hour to go as the ball pinged about the box it was eventually stabbed home by Leiper... Bo'ness Utd. 2 Fauldhouse Utd 0. After coming on as a substitute Craig Chilton was booked and minutes later shown a second yellow card and sent off and what was a hard task became an impossible one now! Another slack goal given away with three minutes left made it 3-0 and at full time the final score...Bo'ness United 3 Fauldhouse United 0.

A three goal margin flattered Bo'ness a bit although they were the better side but two suicidal goals brought about our downfall, let's hope we can learn from our mistakes.

Fauldhouse United: Murphy, Deans, E.Ramsay, Ross, Gallagher, Campbell, Shanks, Scott, Wilkins, Donnelly, D.Ramsay. Subs: Rooney(gk), Browne, Robertson, Fallon, Chilton.

Boness United: Peat, Snowdon, Divine, Murphy, Leiper, C Scott, Miller, Philp, Donnelly, Pittman, Gribben. Subs: Hunter, A.Scott, Sloan, Walker, Wallace.

(WK 9) Fauldhouse Utd 2 v 4 Newtongrange Star

Report from Fauldhouse United

Star Struck!

The only game to go ahead in the Superleague thanks to some sterling work from committee members and a supporter ( aka the Kinky Afro ) to clear water from the park saw Fauldhouse take to the field against a strong unbeaten Newtongrange Star side. After only five minutes they showed their intentions as Kris Rentons shot was just inches by the post. It was all Nitten and two more attempts at goal had Andy Murphy on his toes to save both. As was to be expected the opening goal duly arrived when Sean Jamieson put away a drilled in cross for 1-0 the Star. Nitten doubled their lead five minutes later when a short pass back was intercepted by the lively Cropley to sidestep Andy Murphy and tuck it away...Fauldhouse 0 Newtongrange 2. Just before the break and after two point blank saves from a busy Andy Murphy in the House goal Cropley scored his second and Nittens third...Half-time Fauldhouse United 0 Newtongrange Star 3.

The second half saw United with nothing to lose and Ross Donnelly was unlucky early on when his direct free kick smacked off the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Fauldhouse kept plugging away and to their credit never gave the game up but as the Star remained in control it was no surprise when they increased their lead on sixty five minutes when the excellent Cropley got his hat-trick and the fourth for Nitten...4-0. Fauldhouse pulled two goals back, Drew Ramsay with a header on eighty nine minutes and a Ross Donnelly effort in injury time and it ended Full Time.. Fauldhouse United 2 Newtongrange Star 4.

United came up against the best side we have played in the Superleague so far this season and must be title contenders, as we try and hang in there with the big boys.

(WK 10) Carnoustie Panmure 2 v 1 Fauldhouse Utd

Report from the Fauldhouse United

Below par at Carnoustie

A crucial game for both clubs going into today's match with only two point's separating the sides. Carnoustie were first to show with a shot hitting the post after only five minutes and another shot by Roberts saved by Andy Murphy in the united goal. Jamie Robertson was getting a lot of the ball teasing the Panmure defence with some good crosses. The first real chance came on fifteen minutes when a free kick chipped towards goal was punched out to Sam Scott on the edge of the eighteen yard box and his floated lob smacked against the bar and cleared. It was end to end up till now with Fauldhouse beginning to have the edge winning more than a few corners. The first goal came on the half hour with the Gowfers on the break, a long ball played into the area caused a defensive blunder and MacIlravey was first to react and blast home ... Carnoustie 1 Fauldhouse 0. Ten minutes later it could have been two from a soft penalty awarded to the home side but Simpson blootered it high over the bar. Just before the break MacIlravey got his and Carnousties second, half time Carnoustie 2 Fauldhouse 0.

The second half got under way with the Gowfers content to sit on their lead and hit on the break as United were making no inroads on the home goal. With an hour on the clock Robertson for the hosts headed narrowly over the bar with Fauldhouse pushing further up field for the last quarter of an hour. A 50/50 ball with Kevin Ross going in on the keeper was deemed a booking and Kev was yellow carded for the second time and off, a harsh decision. With nine minutes to go a long ball forward found Mark Wilkins who tucked it by the onrushing keeper... Carnoustie 2 Fauldhouse 1 and cue an onslaught on the home goal. Fauldhouse had the ball in the net minutes later but it was controversially ruled out by the ref for an allegedly hand ball and from the aftermath Gary Fallon and Mark Wilkins got straight red cards for decent, the game came to a finish a few minutes laterfinal score Carnoustie Panmure 2 Fauldhouse United 1.

United in freefall at the moment and just can't get that elusive win to kick us on.

Fauldhouse United: Murphy, Fallon, D. Ramsay, Ross, Scott, Campbell, Robertson, Browne, Love, Donnelly, Wilkins. Subs: E. Ramsay, Shanks, Smith.

Carnoustie Panmure: Ferrie, Cook, Kohler, Millar, Robertson, Kennett, MacIlravey, Roberts, Bews, Cumming, Simpson. Subs: MacPherson(gk), Scott, Neath, Buggins, Birmingham.

Fauldhouse Utd 0 v 0 Kelty Hearts

A spirited performance from the hosts today who were minus quite a few players, which probably had a large bearing on the way they set up.

This is a very unforgiving league and Utd did what they had to do today to gain a well earned point after some recent disappointments.

Kelty Hearts started the match well and scored what looked like a good goal which was then ruled offside by the Ref (no linesmen) the Utd keeper had to make a couple of great saves not long after to keep the hoose from going behind.

The hoose had a good effort at goal themselves midway through the first half when Kyle Allison was called upon to make a great save low down to his left turning the shot just wide of goal for a corner.

Hearts were enjoying most of the possession and tried to quicken up play on a couple of occasions around the hoose penalty area but unfortunately for us they were standing firm.

HT

Kelty had been finishing games well of late so there was still hope in the Hearts support that the boys could find a way through in the 2nd half, however the possession remained at the lower end tempo and we invariably found 2 lines or more of the hoose boys ready in waiting by the time we had worked ourselves into position.

Hearts needed to be moving the ball and switching the play quicker in an attempt to get the full backs in behind, but it was all a wee bit too deliberate at times with us today.

Craig O`Reilly did go close however with a left footed shot which went just wide of the keepers right hand post with around 15 mins to go but the hoose were not for losing on the day.

As intimated previously its a tough league where no quarter is asked or given, credit where its due though the home side had a game plan today, given their resources, and stuck to it well.

For our part we need to think what we may have done differently, keep thing`s positive, and get ourselves focused for our Scottish Cup 2nd round tie next week away to Forfar West End.

Team: Kelty Hearts
