Premier League 2014/15

So things went roughly as expected in the OP for the 2013/14 thread - management upheavals leading to various 2nd tier teams having stabs at the top of the league throughout the season (Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool) with two of the big three in Chelsea and Man City sticking around throughout despite new management teams. Man United last season's laughing stock.

This season we have Chelsea and Man City a year in management-wise, and three transfer windows, so stability and strong title challenges are expected. Perhaps a year too soon for Van Gaal to make Man United serious challengers for the title, though talk of getting in guys like Schweinsteiger are promising. Rodgers has a job on his hands sustaining Liverpool's form of last year, especially with European tier 1 teams likely snooping around Suarez. Wenger's Arsenal will as always be interesting to watch, especially with the big three injury misses from last season back in the side, but still after all these years seem leader and physical strength deficient. Pochettino unlikely to make much of a difference to a Spurs stuck in terminal mediocrity under the wobbly fist of Levy.

Can any of the promoted sides make a splash? Leicester were runaway winners, so expecting a good turnout for them. Southampton able to survive with the manager gone and biggest stars likely gone? QPR and Burnley clearly too shit to stay up?

Super-early Top 5 prediction:

1) Chelsea

2) Man City

3) Arsenal

4) Man United

5) Liverpool

Arsenal to start well then fall away badly around Christmas is a shoe in. They just don't have the squad depth certainly not at the moment anyway and i cant see that changing be interesting though to see what where to happen should they splash the cash on 2 or 3 quality players. For Chelsea to challenge they need to sign a top striker IMO, they never really had a settled number 9 if you like last term Mourinho was constantly changing it looking for the best option and it just never happened.

It will be interesting to see how well Liverpool do next term with midweek champions league football to think about now, they need to add depth to their squad. City will be favorites for the title again and will look to go further in Europe. No idea what to expect from United they need a over-haul in players this summer and it will be interesting to see who comes in.

As a Spurs fan I just hope Levy is patient and gives Pochettino time, the length of the contract would certainly suggest that this will be the case. Hopefully be able to get the best out of the forgotten man Erick Lamela this season.

My top 5:

1 - Man City

2 - Chelsea

3 - Man U

4 - Arsenal

5 - Liverpool

My prediction for the top 5, which of course will be dragged up later in the thread for some hearty chest-laughs...

1. Man City

2. Man Utd

3. Chelsea

4. Arsenal

5. Liverpool

I was tempted to put United on top, as I think there will be quite a revival under Mad Louis. City to win it, as I don't think United quite have enough, same as Chelsea. You could probably swap around Chelsea and United really. Arsenal will once again manage 4th, and Liverpool will finish a distant 5th thanks to midweek games.

Beyond that, I expect Everton to have another good season (depending on how good a summer they have), and maybe push Liverpool close. Relegation could be between a large number of clubs to be honest, but my 3 would be Villa, Newcastle and Burnley in 18th. Leicester to survive, and annoyingly, QPR as well.

I think that, unless we get bought out quickly, we're fucked.

Villa, Burnley and Hull (squad won't be able to cope with domestic and European football) to go down.

Probably Man City or Chelsea to win the league depending on who buys who. Think Liverpool had their chance and won't come too close again for another few seasons.

Man U to finish outside top four again but possibly win a trophy to keep van Gaal in a job.

I'll be super-bold and be the first to have a super-early prediction of the final league table:

1. Chelsea

2. Man City

3. Arsenal

4. Liverpool

5. Man Utd

6. Spurs

7. Everton

8. Villa

9. Palace

10. Leicester

11. Hull

12. Sunderland

13. West Ham

14. Stoke

15. QPR

16. Southampton

17. Swansea

18. Newcastle

19. Burnley

20. West Brom

Pochettino, Hughes, Redknapp, Dyche, Allardyce, Pardew and Monk to lose their jobs over the course of the season, as well as the new West Brom guy.

Pardew will be the first to go and the wheels will come off at Newcastle. Roy Hodgson will take over at Spurs in January, Moyes to Stoke and Mark Hughes will get the gig at Swansea. (If I get any of the above right I'll be chuffed to bits.)

If Man City hold onto Toure, keep Aguero fit and find a partner for Kompany then I think they'll retain the championship. Chelsea should strengthen with a striker (Costa by the looks of it) and a centre-mid and push City all the way. LVG has a lot of work cut out with Man Utd and I think he'll succeed, just not right away. Arsenal will do their usual unless they strengthen in defence (their back 4 is decent enough but the back-up isn't), add another wide player and striker. I think Liverpool will struggle to balance PL and CL. I'm still not 100% Suarez will be there next season. Everton will do well again. I like Pochetinno but I don't see it working out for him at Spurs.

With the top 7 is pretty much nailed on and the rest is much of a muchness. With Pochettino gone and them probably losing a couple of their prize assets, I can't see Southampton being as strong as last season. With Remy going elsewhere, I expect Newcastle to continue their form of the last 10 games. I think West Ham will do quite well, no idea why though.

I can't see Burnley being string enough to stay up. Villa will continue their gradual downfall, especially if they don't find a new owner very soon. Would love it see QPR go down .

Fancy Southampton to be right down near the bottom. Manager been plucked as well as having all their standout players sniped from other clubs. Predicted this would happen!

ricky lambert discussing move to liverpool, fee agreed between clubs, 4mill up front with add ons

Suppose it's better than £20m for Robbie Keane or £35m for Carroll!

I reckon:

  1. Chelsea
  2. Man City
  3. Arsenal
  4. Liverpool

Can't see any big revival under Utd, even if they get the reinforcements the volume needed suggests they're gonna need time to gel. For all the money they've spent, Spurs seem a while off just yet, while Everton will need to do their usual clever work in the transfer market to keep themselves involved.

Buzzing for a year of Sean Dyche post match interviews. The living incarnation of David Brent.

I die a little every time I hear him referred to as the 'Ginger Mourinho'.
