All aboard the Championship train! Chooo Choooo!!!

Mods feel free to move this thread after GTF day.

As it stands we are threadbare all over the park but plenty of time to get our shit together, not expecting much until we exit administration. Rumours that could still be 4 weeks away though and with our season starting in around 7 or 8 weeks that's a scary prospect!

What are we all thinking for next season? it's obviously extremely early days to be judging the other teams and our own team but I can't see any real big signings for us next season. Going by Budge's statement I get the impression there won't be any major investment in the playing squad and they even hinted that although going up was the target that the club getting itself back in order was the priority over everything. I can't see us not being top 4 though which at the end of the day gives us a real fighting chance of getting up and as much as I would LOVE to win the league next year, it shouldn't be ( and won't be) done at all costs.

Championship forum for this pish.

Bantalope.

Pretty much what Stu says. We can sign players but not register them until we're out of admin, so there is no reason that we can't get a squad assembled early. I'm liking that we are taking our time though and not rushing into it. Top 4 is the bare minimum, and although Hibs and Rangers are there for the taking and as funny as f**k as it'd be to pip them both, I'll take getting ourselves sorted off the park first and foremost.

I agree with Budge then, as much as I would like to see us win and go back up, as long as we get ourselves sorted out, well that's got to be the main thing hasn't it.

I think it will be a really interesting season and am actually quite looking forward to it.

Without the need for strikers in Levein's footballing philosophy, Hearts will be able to strengthen the other postions well enough to ensure a top 4 league placing, imo.

Hearts will come back up I think. I would have been a lot more sympathetic to that if that fucknugget Levein wasn't involved, but Hearts are a good club with great fans and even with Levein there I'd rather see them automatically promoted with Hibs up through the play off.

Sevco have a shit squad and manager and unless they spend even more megabucks they dont have, i cant see them finishing better than 3rd. :thumsup2

Gomis and/or Buaben would be fantastic signings for a championship club.

Not so keen on the rumours about Neil Alexander though, awful decision to let MacDonald go if that's his replacement.

Great keeper wasted at Rangers. Better than wee Jamie, any day of the week.

Gomis and Buaben would be excellent signings for Championship level, particularly the former. That would give us four centre midfielders along with Robinson and Holt, with Beith looking to break through. Holt could still be considered for the 'in the hole role' but I think his future now should be right in the centre of it all. It's no secret we've looked a lot better since he's been put into that role. If we hold onto him this season, then it will arguably be our best bit of business over the year.

My only problem right now is the fact that our squad has a lack of leaders on the park, and I'm not sure you could call either of Gomis and Buaben that from what I've seen. Wilson might be our captain, but I don't think he is a very good one, nor do I believe he should next season. Hamill was a dick but he took a lot of the abuse away from our younger players IMO, not to mention MacDonald was as vocal as I've seen him.

Pretty happy with Gomis and Alexander being rumoured as transfer targets.

Alexander's a good keeper with plenty of experience, be interesting to see if he'd be number 1 or whether he'd take the back-up/coach role that was mentioned.

It's possible that Archie will offer Buaben a new deal at Firhill. On the other hand, the Jambos may be able to offer him more money. Such is the bizarre financial state of Scottish football.

Neal Alexander would be a classic Craig Levein signing. There are surely better, and/or cheaper, options available.
