Things you notice in TV shows that irritate you.

This is not a thread for just full-on shite TV. It's for annoying things like continuity errors and unfeasible mistakes which producers never seem to correct.

For example, why, when someone puts on a TV, does it fall on the exact show they were saying they were going to watch?

Why, when a group of friends are playing on a console such as an XBOX, and it is turned off abruptly by another person, do they not have to go through loading screens when it is turned back on? They are able to resume playing immediately.

What other ones are there P+B?

When they play computer games they hold the controller out in front of them and just mash the buttons whilst inexplicably wiggling the controller side to side.

If you played any game like that then it would be pointless.

I can back this up, as I do and it is.

I read these in some email that was floating about for years - probably still is on iVillage or something.

L-shaped bed sheets that cover women's chests but only go up as far as the waist on a guy.

Everyone who has been shopping has bought a baguette.

No one ever says "bye" on the phone. They just slam it down.

Hand waving whilst talking.

More so on news from the likes of Peston and Marr. They look like absolute paps doing this and any c**t who overly uses their hands to help express themsleves in real is usually a p***k.

American TV is the worst for it especially Mad Men. Someone did it to me in work today and I was raging.

I hate the way reality TV is edited especially in America. They make things look tense when they aren't by putting a negative reaction just after a comment that might have been completely innocent. The reaction they use was probably filmed a few days earlier to something completely different. Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA is really bad for it. I've witnessed the daylight in the background flip from bright sunshine to dusk and back again just to achieve this.

In tv shows with violence it's always so unbelievable IMO. You have 5 guys burst in and the main character kills two of them before giving up and the other three are just happy to take him away. Surely you'd be good friends with the other soldiers/criminals/policeman you go about with and if someone killed two of your pals then said 'I give up' you wouldn't just say 'that's alright then we'll take you back to our base and leave you somewhere easy to escape.'

One I forgot to add in the OP.

In American TV people are never pulled over for driving while using their mobile phone. Can someone clarify whether it is actually an offence across the pond?

Actually I was watching a show the other day and thought that same thing. It's actually not an offence in a lot of states

No one ever gives adequate time for someone to answer the door. It's less than 5 seconds before an impatient second knock.

I also hate the generic phone displays. I'm watching Dexter right now which is a total b*****d for this. Similarly, why does everyone sign off their texts with their first initial? The person you're texting clearly has your number so what's the deal?

The amount of untouched pints in soaps annoys me. 4-5 drinks bought for a table, argument, all storm out.

Also, going for a "quick drink" literally means walking into the pub, getting a half, necking it then leaving with a snide remark

I still hate in American shows how they bump into each other then do the "you should call me sometime" without the physical act of swapping numbers...

Also that there now needs to be always be a cliched sarcastic character in most shows

STV news.

The title music keeps slowing down or speeding up like some sort of old tape mashed up in a ghetto blaster.

Every single female presenter has that annoying false squeaky cadence that makes your skin crawl.

They have a pointless coming up in the sports news section.

Coming up in two minutes paul, thanks dave, ok Paul, see you then dave, ok Paul ok, dave, thanks paul, over the the sports news paul.

Rangers Celtic rangers Celtic rangers Celtic rangers Celtic rugby

Ok thanks paul, thanks dave, ok paul thanks dave, now over to the weather, hi Shaun, hiya dave,

Arrrrrrghhh

Exposition in the dialogue.

Suits is particularly bad for it.

'WAIT! You're saying that he did *insert criminal activity* for *insert reason* and now we have to prosecute him by doing *insert course of action*?'

CSI type shows are terrible for this as well
