Ivo den Bieman
So, the catch all thread for Montrose FC over the close season. The clammy palmed excitement as we sign three players Brechin and Cove Rangers didn't want on August 31st. etc, and West End's reserve keeper. Seriously, we need to build a new ish squad for the new season. From afar it has looked like like we had goals in the team, but real gaps in defence, which has never been reliable enough to mount a consistent challenge. The squad has always been on the "thin" side as well. SPFL 2 will not have any big spending teams in it next season so the key to winning the league, or at least making the play offs, is a settled squad and *consistency*. Montrose were last consistently good when they went on that unbeaten run under Henry Hall over ten years ago, at the back end of 2003/4. It is the kind of league-winning consistency that has eluded us ever since. I know the new management team left everyone a little bit underwhelmed, myself included, when appointed last week but I hope their words about building a competitive squad and challenging for a top four place become reality. On a personal note I wlll be back home for the new season, so I am very much looking forward to re-acquainting myself with abysmal teenaged referees, the A*****th derby, atrocious goal-less borefests at Cliftonhill, and the Dyna-Mo, soon. Word on grapevine is that the interview process apparently raised a few doubts about Tindal (and more than a few about McGlashan, unsurprisingly). Half a dozen clever additions to the team and we've got a chance of top four - the team dug in well the last two games of the season, hopefully that ethic carries over into next term. Ivo den Bieman
Yep and we need to do it quite quickly, not the usual Montrose method of wait too long and then sign four players in a panic just before the transfer window closes.
Judge
Defensively we need to tighten up. Require a right back if Crawford joins Cove as mentioned, Left back and another central defender to challenge Campbell and Wilson. Would like to see a goalscoring midfielder and a proven striker join also.

MOFOREVER
Montrose are rotten, end of. Enjoy being mid table if not worse next season. You always get some posters butting in - presumably a Binos fan? He's right though but I'd be happy to alter his second word from 'are' to 'were' come the end of next season.
mo83
Any idea who is getting released? For me colin Wilson and lewis bonar are dead certs to leave.Big strong centre half would no go a miss, defence is far too light weight.Hopefully wilkie might source out a good signing from lochee utd or something..........Not a phil McGuire please though

Judge
Jonathan Crawford signs one year deal. Had been rumoured that he was on way to Cove but must have had a change of heart after Kevin Tindal left there.

delnch the mo
Interesting to hear that there was a few questions raised about Tindall when he was interested. However more importantly I hope SG gets the right backing from the board and that LW shows more interest in his role this time. Really want to get a few new faces into the squad early in the transfer window and get the team gelling before the league starts. It is our biggest downfall every season watching a team who haven't had enough time training together. And I have already told the better half that there will be a few long weekends required. very disappointed in myself in only seeing one game this season
mo83
evening express tonite says that George shields has spoken to graham hay and ewan moyes about signing for the mo.Very much doubt we will get either player but least he has made an effort and its the right sort of calibre of player we should be going for. Also mentions theirs a 1 year deal on the table for colin Wilson if he wants it too! cdsmith15
We will have to achieve two things that we haven't in over a decade; 1. A 'storming' start to a season. (It seems to work for East Stirlingshire) 2. A consistent winning run. Especially when in contention. Everyone will remember that QP game last season. The first is absolutely necessary to get the punters through the door. Especially after the underwhelming (to most fans) management appointment. We have Duguid for another season, so give hime a go at right back. Highest priority for me is a left back. And please no panic buying of injured players please! Montrose will get absolutely nowhere near them two players. Agree that it must be good to see your side show ambition in potential signings, but at the same time there's no point going pie in the sky and missing out on realistic targets. Shields will be a disaster.
MOFOREVER
According to the Brechin website Graham Hay only played 4 games for them last season. Injured or couldn't get in the team? If the latter he might well opt for the Mo and first team footy. Ewan Moyes played over 40 games so might be a different matter.
