Recommended Posts

AS far as I can tell, players definitely signed for next season are:

Rab Douglas

Darren Hill

Martyn Fotheringham

Chris Templeman

Gavin Swankie

Paul Mclellan - stepping up from the under 19's

Liam Keillor - stepping up from the under 19's

Craig Smith - stepping up from the under 19's

Post any thoughts, signings, rumours, etc in here.

We finished 7th in a poor league with a very healthy budget. The fitba was again honking and about five decades out of date. Team selections were all over the place (how many players did we actually use?). Any supporter I speak to wants a change.

And yet the Campbells stay?

Utter crap from you as usual, i think we did ok, not sure the budget is as "healthy" as you say.

Seen some great performances from us this season, pity the season petered out but think we can look forward to next season optimistically.

Baxter was signed on a 2 year deal was he not?

Haha, two players on two year deals, Swankie and Baxter (both deserved) confetti right enough. Made a mistake not offering the likes of Danny Denholm an extra year early enough so the club is doing the right thing.

Money seems to be getting spent on the hospitality cabbins so could be down a bit for players this year. Also don't get the "ridiculous amount of players" comment. I cant really recall looking at our bench and thinking we have loads of players! Quite the opposite really.

Derek Soutar (remember him?) was on a two year deal. Duncan Reid same. Swankie has just signed his second two year deal. Contract extensions - admittedly not the same thing - in January which was unheard of in years gone by.

How many players did we use during the season?

I'm kinda between these two viewpoints. When you look at Stranraer and Ayr in the top four and how they played in recent weeks there is really no reason we couldn't have made the play offs.

Give this up!

Stranraer cuffed you on Saturday and Ayr played you off the park twice earlier in the season. You can't judge a league on a few select games. Forfar fell short despite both Ayr and Stranraer having extended poor runs. You should really have been well out of it weeks ago. There's also no doubt Airdrie are a far better team than Forfar and probably Brechin in all honesty. Remember you did also finish behind Stenny.

Just let it go.

I imagine many supporters of other clubs will say the same thing about their team, but Forfar's problem this season was consistency. Players like Kader and Swankie look like they're really hungry for it one week, the next they lose every 50/50.

Gavin Malin, a silver medalist, in the World Student Games, hardly got a look in over the last few months, whereas he persists with Foxy, who is a fans' favourite, but actually delivers little in terms of consistency. I like Templeman, but he's too slow, and takes too long on the ball.

I don't know what to make of Campbell's selection policy. I'd like to think that he looks at the opposition, sizes up their strengths and weaknesses and puts the best 11 he has available on the park to counter the opposition. But it sometimes look like he pulls names out of a hat.

Campbell also has a habit of farming out or releasing players we need. Dunlop, McCabe, McManus...

Think it's you that needs to let things go.

My comments weren't a go at Ayr or Stranraer per se, both deserve to be third and fourth, more a go at my own team for underperforming.

Aye but both those clubs did too - which was my point.

Not to mention Stenny, Airdrie, Brechin etc

Ayr are rotten, really really bad. Stranrear played some good stuff against us, Airdrie had a good end to the season, Stenhousemuir always had the sligth edge on us in games I witnessed but finishing below Ayr was a big disapointment.

Yeah it must have been, given you were never closer than three points behind us the entire season. A season where we were never out of the top four.

Given how rotten you were the week before against Arbroath, maybe you should just be grateful you didn't finish bottom.
