Room for another friendly?

I looked at the FIFA international match calendar pdf a few months ago and I'm sure there was a friendly slot in August. I can't for the life of me find the page now. Seems like the slot has been removed now.

My question is: does anyone else see value in having another game between the Nigeria one in May and the first qualifier? I'm thinking a home tie vs decent but beatable opposition. Maybe Finland or Cyprus or something. 50% because I think we might benefit from using it as a warm up and 50% because having only 2 games from Jan-September is pretty p15h.

I see England are squeezing in four games pre world cup as their warm up, but I suppose they've got a valid reason to do so.

There aren't any standalone friendlies from next season because they have introduced an extra doubleheader each season: there will now be November and March doubleheaders every season, instead of every other season in turn. This means players being asked to fulfil 1 fewer international match every 2yrs (5 becoming 4), but the club game giving-up 1 more date every 2yrs (5 becoming 6 - due to the rest midweeks). Since the FIFA calendar for 2010-2014 had already been agreed - including an August date - there was some suggestion they'd keep it for this year only, but they haven't.

I'd like us to play another game but doubt we will.

The SSC sent an email saying they hope to arrange a friendly on the Thursday before the Germany game in September.

I like the look of the fifa calendar from 2015 onwards, 5 double dates (10 games overall), more compact and less chance of clubs being arsey about releasing players etc:

I, too, think we should play on every available opportunity. I accept the odd time a 'squad gathering' might be more appropriate, but sometimes we don't even do that and let these slots pass us by.

That'd be good but risky as even slight knocks could rule players out from ze German game. I was hoping for early August ideally.

I think it's very unlikely we'll arrange a friendly outwith the windows.

Obviously clubs wouldn't have to release their players, but even if they did, the only available midweek is that formerly used for the August friendly.

It's now used for the Supercup and no doubt various domestic competitions will also take advantage of the Wednesday.

I know this might be a stupid question but could we not just arrange a closed door game? Obviously the fans wouldn't be able to see it but what's stopping us?

Do you mean in May, or sometime outwith the international windows (e.g. August)?

Being infront of fans makes no difference.

We could arrange a game during an international period, e.g. late May, and play a full-strength XI but decide to admit no fans. It happens occasionally.

We could arrange a game outwith the international dates, and fans or not, players wouldn't be obliged to come nor clubs to release them.

There would be absolutely no point in organising anything outwith an international window. No players would be released I imagine, so we'd be stuck with either the dregs, or nothing at all. The Thursday prior to the Germany game seems to be the only option, but could see why maybe it's not the best idea to have a game. As long as they get together at the usual time and have some kind of training camp, that's enough I think. I wouldn't be against them going up against a small nation as a warm-up though.

Costa Rica would be good if we get them must be rated highly after the world cup beating them we could go up the rankings

Question is can we are we good enough thought they were a decent side its not out of the question but we would be in a real battle
