Just seen an online article from a November issue of the Midlothian advertiser. Haven't previously seen any of mention of it on this site so thought I'd paste the article. Within the East juniors, specifically the South Division (essentially the old Lothian), there are only 14 teams instead of the desired 16, in part because of Spartans withdrawing their juniors to put their reserve side in the EOS. Essentially this could be a straight swap.

Easthouses Lily hope to leave the East of Scotland League (EOS) and join the Juniors set-up as part of big plans at the Newbattle club.

They were left frustrated after a number of teams left the EOS in the summer to join the newly-formed Scottish Lowland League – a future feeder league for the SPFL.

Chairman David Arthur revealed that they have made enquiries with the Junior set-up.

He said: “We asked the Juniors what options were available to join. They were very impressed with our plans.”

These include new changing facilities and some landscaping at the Newbattle Complex to tie in with their recently installed floodlights.

A wee bit like Brantwood joining the Ballymena and Provincial League in your part of the world? Think they are being realistic about where they fit in in the big scheme of things and this would provide them with scope for lots of local derbies against teams like Newtongrange Star, Dalkeith Thistle, Arniston Rangers, Tranent, Bonnyrigg Rose and Penicuik.

Bracketing all those teams together is an oversight. They cover three separate divisions and now the League Cup is no more, they wont get quite as many local games.

Anyway, good luck to Lily if they join.

Good to see some "senior" clubs are seeing the LL for what it is,a pile of s****.

They`d get more people in for through the gate from1 game against Boness than they`d get all

season in the LL.

Didn't see anyone saying that.

Maybe the way E.O.S. Clubs are seeing it, the expense to upgrade to L.L. Standard is too much so the Juniors is a more viable option.

Not sure how much of this is true but ive heard easthouses aren't the only team to leave EOS to join juniors.

Suspect the Edinburgh area clubs that are not full SFA members like Craigroyston, Tynecastle, Lothian Thistle and Leith Athletic are likely to see the south district of the east region as the better bet now that Spartans, Whitehill Welfare, Edinburgh City and Preston Athletic have left for pastures new. Will be interesting to see what unfolds.

how can u say its full of amatuer players the lowland league teams would would beat a lot of junior teams and it will only get stronger next season!

They`d beat a lot of bad small Junior teams but most of them wouldn't last 10 minutes in the top West and East divisions.

It`ll get much stronger with the likes of Hawick and Eyemouth in it

Same old story from the juniors local derby blah blah. nae ambition

There should have been a merger decades ago between the EoS league and the east region of the juniors. It's mental that clubs like Easthouses Lily and Dalkeith Thistle can never play a competitive fixture against each other.

Junior clubs don't have to join the LL, and the Junior leagues don't have to join the pyramid.

So there's no need for fans of (particularly a few of the biggest) Junior clubs get as exercised as they do at the thought of the LL, AFAICS.

Whatever the story behind Easthouses thoughts back in the autumn, I'd be surprised if it's about crowds and their new floodlights.

Their 3 biggest home gates this season have come against Gala (of LL), Hibs (reserve team), and Hawick.

Their website has a huge gap in the stats but their average this season so far is only 1 person lower than 2009-10.

AFAIA there aren't big travelling supports in the ER South District, and only a couple of cups? There isn't a Midlothian team in the South District - Arniston are mid-table in Premier, rest in Superleague or promotion race for it [on points-per-game Penicuik + Dalkeith are 2nd & 3rd]. And floodlighting is generally frowned upon in the Juniors.

That's what I was thinking. If a few do jump ship a full merger has to be on the cards.

No ambition to play in front of sub 100 crowds in a poor league full of amateur players.
