top 5 favourite Junior Grounds

Thanks to Ginger Blastie for giving me the idea for this topic from the Kilsyth v Largs thread. But instead of top 10 what's your top 5 favourite junior venues? I'm still thinking of mine and in what order (but Duncasfield will be in it ginger ha ha.) If you want to give your top 10 or top 7 or whatever that's fair enough.

Strictly based upon ones visited;

Linlithgow - Prestonfield

Pollok - newlandsfield

Irvine meadow - meadow park

Auchinleck talbot - beechwood park

Cumnock - Townhead park.

Im sure sauchie would be In there but haven't visited it yet.

Linlithgow - Great pitch , excellent seating stand. , floodlights and good social club .

Pollok - Good sized covered enclosure, good terracing , good pitch and it lends to a good atmosphere.

Irvine meadow - good pitch, good seating stand , good wee social club and well located ground .

Auchinleck - It just smells of junior football upon entering it , good seating stand, good covered enclosures , great pitch and good social club .

Cumnock- good pitch, good cover, good social club and just love them continental styled goal nets as they make tap ins look brilliant when the net bulges.

Kind of depends on whether you are judging the venue or the "experience" including the before, during and after.

For venues I'll go for:

Linlithgow

Auchinleck

Irvine Meadow

Pollok

Bo'ness

For "experience"

Linlithgow

St Andrews

Troon

Lochee Utd

Ardrossan

In each list, the 4 below Linlithgow are in no particular order. In each case in the bottom list the choice is influenced by the menu on offer and/or the people I've met.

Loved Armadale when Talbot played there in the 91-2 Junior Cup, and with over 3,000 inside it was an amazing atmosphere.

The old Petershill was a superb ground with a great roof.

Benburb I've always enjoyed going to as it's still very much 1930's through and through.

Like the covered enclosure at Pollok (don't know about some of the sanctimonious arses that stand in there though!)

Have a soft spot for Kello Rovers for some strange reason.

Bo'ness, Linlithgow, and Bonnyrigg in the East are all great wee grounds, and I never tire of going to Beith and Medda.

1 Pollok. Just love the atmosphere there. Pitch always great condition too.

2.linlithgow. Only been the once. Thought it was smashing place.

3 st Andrews. I dont know what it was. Maybe the trees and social club but i loved the set up.

4 medda. Can't stand them but can't denie the place is great set up. Pitch immaculate.

5 balingry. Again loved the set up. Also great surface.

6 kilbirnie. Love our home ground but it needs improving without a doubt. Pitch great now. Tidy up and better fencing around it. Let less folk see in and it be top top ground.

7 beith. Always enjoy beith. Feels tight wee ground. Hill does annoy me.. No better feeling than walking out bellsdale with a win in the bag as well.

8. Troon. Down the other week and its quality pitch. Best about the now i would suggest. Guys working on it every day.. Like the stand as well feel like your about on pitch. Close to it with no barrier.

9 talbot.. Only reason its not further up list is i hate coming out the place. Had some amount of hassle from locals in there houses in my time but that apart its what you expect from the pinnacle club in juniors..

10 Maryhill. Love the sunken in look to it. Bit behind goals was amazing on that roasting day we won west there. Atmosphere was superb and it Will always hold special place in my heart.

Well appointed top five - Prestonfield, Beechwood (Auchinleck), Beechwood (Sauchie) New Victoria (Newtongrange) John Cumming (Carluke)

Amazing old relics of yesteryear top five - Millburn (Vale of Leven), Tinto (Benburb), Duncansfield (Kilsyth), Craigie (East Craigie), Newbyres (Arniston)

Weird ones that don't look like anywhere else top five - Lochburn (Maryhill), Craighead (Lesmahagow), Downfield (Downfield), Castle (Blantyre Vics), Foxhall (Coupar Angus)

Could probably also think of a "been there once, that'll do me" top five!

Interesting / unique grounds

1.Cruden bay - You are escorted up wee dirt tracks by a local farmer and you see it.........

A ground surrounded by piles of coo dung along every perimeter and a bizzare wee ground. :)

2.FC stoneywood - Even the locals couldn't guide us to it when we became lost .

A ground hidden in dense forestry and it resembles something from the blairwitched project and has a tiny wee cricket stand snuggled away at one corner and a white wall providing its perimeter.

3.Cumbernauld - Great wee social club with a beer garden and stand .

Everything however is based on the one side with the other side only having dug outs and a four foot boundary fence where balls constantly go over.

New Baws please sir!!!!

4.Ashfield- Brilliant view from the seating stand , really tight pitch where a 5 stone weakling could even launch a throw in into the penalty box and a truly unique ground which I enjoy visiting.

5.Annbank - Apart from the death row pies its an interesting ground which is usually a complete swamp which lends itself to old school junior football.

If you survive the pies then you can usually tell a story or two about your visits to annbank and the wee pub at the top of of the hill.:)

6. Maryhill- its sunken bowl makes you feel as though its an inside venue.

1. Linlithgow Rose

Possibly the best stand in the Juniors, great social club & a great atmosphere when it's busy. Brilliant place to watch football, best in Juniors by far.

2. Auchinleck Talbot

Proper old school Juniors, the atmosphere is second to none. Pitch is fantastic, wee stand is decent & everything about the place embodies Junior football.

3. Troon

Best pitch in Scottish football, not just the Juniors, and the social club raises the bar (pun intended) for pretty much any other ground I've been to. A beer garden with a great view of the park is heaven. No seating, but that's the only negative. Great atmosphere when it's busy.

4. Petershill

This might be controversial, but nobody can argue the facilities are tremendous for a Junior club. Lacks in atmosphere a bit, granted, but great view of a slick pitch that encourages good football and I thoroughly enjoy watching football here.

5. Winton Rovers

Very neat wee set-up, with a decent stand & a really good view of the park from pretty much anywhere you choose to watch from. One of my favourite away days!

1.Medda pk

2. Newlandsfield

3. Old Petershill

4. Cumbernauld

5. Talbot

6. Glenhead (old Bankies pk, simply for view of pitch from social club)

7. Cambuslang

8. Benburb

9. Kello ( my favorite away day in Ayrshire)

10. Spartans ( even though I wasnt there for a Junior game, they did run a Junior team for a bit so it qualifies). Prefer old school venues but this deserves a mention, cracking facilities and bar / cafe up the stair with decent view. Went with boys from work last year to a game and def best of any of the new grounds I've been to
