Well the premier league is nothing but a fucking farce because Hurlford Thistle are taking the piss. Many teams resort to long ball Stoke-tactics and it makes for horrible matches, to watch and to play in. Rank rotten.

Beyond Hurlford's farcical monopoly, there's a massive problem facing Ayrshire teams- the quality of the parks. I can count on one hand (no, one finger) the amount of very good pitches in amateur football. They're all bogs and swamps with grass that's too long, or just poorly maintained in general. It's atrocious to play on most of the time and this usually makes for a horrendous spectacle as well.

There used to be a good competition in the leagues, with some teams playing some lovely stuff, but these clubs are part of a swiftly shrinking minority

Played against Galston (probably 2nd to hurlford down there) and lost 5-1... Genuinely if we had played them on a 3g park rather than bog (our own silly manager took them there) it woulda been close... We are just a wee Churches League team...
We also destroyed Mossblown 6-3 (going on 12) the round before.

Hurlford are the only team worth mentioning nowadays

Interesting take on a 5 - 1 defeat...... must be some player to think that clubs like Galston , Clark Drive and Tiber are not worth mentioning. Still don't imagine they will lose any sleep over it, Galstons names in the hat. Worth noting that the AFA select side beat central select in the recent annual match, I was there and it was fully deserved, not a single Hurlford player on show but feel free to judge a region based on 2 games one of which you were horsed in and appear to be in denial about

Whats interesting about it??

Im not in denial about anything my friend. It was a deserved win on the day, no doubt. Just feel if we played them on a bigger park it could have been (previously said woulda) closer.

Physical team who play for knock on and long ball - which was effective against out tiny team. The Galston players were saying there wasn't 4 goals in the game, but again, deserved for Galston. However as you say Galstons name is in the hat and that's all that matters.

Its the same teams making the last 16 every year in scottish and west, that's why i meant its not worth mentioning.

I've asked this before here, and didn't get a reply but can anyone shed any light on what happened to Heathside AFC? When I played in the Ayrshire league around about 15 years ago they were always one of the best teams on and off the park.

Where were they from? I've never heard of them.

They were from Ayr, played at Rozelle from memory. They won the Scottish Cup I think around about the mid 1990's. I remember playing against them once and getting absolutely rag-dolled by Jimmy McMillan (ex Talbot) for 90 mins.

Edit - they won the Scottish in 1991/92 and 94/95.
