Ryan Gauld

is going to be a superstar.

In Scotland we have an archaic attitude to lots of aspects of football. Holland, who are obviously much better than us, just named a guy in their senior squad who made his first team debut 3 weeks ago.

We have no meaningful games for the next year. Gauld is clearly going to make that number 10 role in behind the striker his own sooner or later.

Should he not be chucked in now give him as much experience as possible before the games start to count? IMO he shoud feature in the games against Norway and USA, I would have him in the squad and start him in both.

There's a few really good young players coming through in Dundee just now. Fair enough majority are at Tannadice but it's nice to see.

Gauld looks like the pick of the bunch though

Forgive me if I don't get over excited, I've heard the same about a number of young players in the past.

Ryan Gauld is the best prospect I've seen in my time watching football in Scotland by some distance, and that's not just a reaction to his goals today. We've had plenty of young players who can ping a goal into the top corner or beat a man, but I've not seen any young players with the same level of intelligence and close-control as him. That's without mentioning that he's regularly scoring great goals and playing killer passes in the SPL at 17 years old.

You can never be sure a young player will fulfill their potential, but I'm very confident with Gauld.

Really hope so. My heart says yes - get him in the squad now.

But then so many folk were leaping around with semis when John Fleck broke into the Rangers first team, and his career went south swiftly.

I agree than Gaud appears to be a stronger prospect than fleck though, and reports suggest he is more level-headed.

I've never really bought into the hype so far as I haven't seen enough of him before but today he was just pure class. He's only 17 and about 10st wet through but his pace, awareness, vision, passing, dribbling and finishing were all top drawer. One of the best performances I've seen in many years at Fir Park. We were shite and gave him far too much space and time but he was just a joy too watch.

He seems to have his head on his shoulders as well, maybe not ready for the full squad yet but he's certainly got a lot of potential.

Fleck would be playing at a really good level IF he had pace, McFadden was exactly the same. James Forrest has pace but his footballing ability will ensure that Celtic/lowerEPL will be his level.

Hopefully this kid is level headed and develops into a superstar, although more than likely we'll be bumping this page and mocking posters in 3 years time.

For those who watch united (and I've only seen him a few times) make the case

1) IS he better than Mackay-Steven and the Turkish chap ?

2) Why he's better than the kid Fraser at Aberdeen who was 'the one' last year.

How is the USA and Norway games not meaningful,we need the seeding points to get higher than 35 were we are just now. Here is a game and games were the players put down a marker bye winning, and show the rest of the world that we can still beat quality teams. And make no mistake that is exactly what the USA are,and it was not long ago that Norway were in the top ten.

Our best players play midfield, and nobody deserves to lose his place to somebody who was not involved. If he is as good as they say his time will come.Be that in this country or in Spain, with Barcelona reported to have scouted him and are interested.Doubt he will go straight into there team though,be in the reserves to start out with if he goes and they really want him.An its not just paper talk, hope it is true though.

If Scotland reach the under 19 finals again, the eyes of the world will be on him.Its his chance to go out and cover himself in glory. Its a proper platform for exposure and could earn a move to Europe on the back of it,maybe not to Barcelona but to another big club were he will learn the game,in the right manner were he will become a better technical player.

He`s top drawer no doubt about it. Knew it as soon as I saw him play for the under 20`s last season. What I would say is just give him a bit of time. McNamara still leaves him out now & again, Parkhead last week for instance. One step at a time, but he`s got the ability to go far no question. He`s only just been called into the under 21`s, let him make that step first. All in good time I`d say :thumsup2

 Fleck never showed any potential worthy of the hype he got, it was purely a media campaign by the MSM because he played for Rangers

Gauld looks an outstanding prospect and has done for a few seasons now, he's miles above any other 17 year old in the country, and is probably (rightfully) more sought after than Glass Knees Gary who also gets unwarranted praise due to a purple patch and some ridiculously impressive skillz

I doubt he'll be elevated to the full squad now tho. Leave him in the U21s for this round of intl games and see how he fares. Perhaps consider him for the February friendly/ies if he's still ripping the SPFL(P) new ones then?

Oh right the main stream media is pro Rangers, really was it not them that were pushing the story that they had broke the law? When later it actually emerged that most of there dealings was legal, apart from not paying there tax.If anything the anti Rangers media made the case sound lost before it was even fought, found them guilty without the due evidence required in a normal state of law.

Sorry I have no desire to converse with an aggressive idiot who doesn't even know what day it is. Maybe you'll have better luck with someone else. Would make sense that you're a Rangers fan though

Even when I wrote they are not we in the last post, you conclude that I am a Rangers supporter.Clearly your not very bright up there, and have probably buzzed to much cow dung.I saw the BBC documentary were Rangers were hung out to dry,all the mad claims that at court were proved not be be valid or justified.Perhaps you needed to follow the story a bit better? And what about Stuart Cosgrove a Saint,he ran Channel Four a total media mogul

John Fleck was way before all that Rangers clusterfuck shit, and he was hyped up no end without any evidence to the contrary.

As for Gauld, everything he has done so far has been brilliant but young players need to be nurtured and looked after, lets give him his chance in the U19s and U21s teams where he can play with players he knows and where he will enjoy his football, if the chance come sup on the future for maybe an appearance in a Scotland squad for some experience then so be it, but there ain't no rush.

Exhibit A: Mr C Eriksen of Denmark, capped a month after turning 18. If ever a country needed to fast track it's best young talent it's us. It's like that Seinfeld episode, lets just do The Opposite of what we normally do, as that just hasn't been working.
