St Andrews thread

OK there are threads elsewhere about how bad Linlithgow were this afternoon and blah blah about them

Just a minute did St Andrews not win 6-0 against a side that won the league last season, and were 3-0 up against 10 men yeah they sure were

In addition were Saints missing two central defenders too, yes to that as well.

From 1 -23 the boys were absolutely awesome this afternoon, although its been coming, we battered Kelty last week and should have come home with all the points. Well today it clicked and we are in the Fourth Round of the EoS Cup.

Gary Sutherland netted as good a hat trick as you will see and quite honestly was unplayable at times, Lee Sibanda orchestrated a lot of what we did right and the Lithgae boys couldn't get a boot on him. Flyer and Seels were outstanding and helped out Jamie Mackie who was immense and James Drummond all afternoon.

The skipper was the skipper and back to his best alongside our little pitbull Ryan McInnes, ably assisted by Kamil Kadela who gets better week on week.

Barry Sibanda was a handful as usual but today played second fiddle to the legend that is Mr Sutherland.

Whose left, oh yeah Richard Cargill, who wont have many quieter afternoons and then the subs, Matty, Michael and Porty who all did there bit coming on at the end

What an afternoon

For anybody who is in any doubt

SAINTS 6 Linlithgow 0

To put it simply, St Andrews United were awesome on Saturday afternoon as they systematically demolished the crumbling house of cards that was reigning Super League Champions, Linlithgow Rose in the 3rd Round of the East Of Scotland Cup.

Saints who were without Craig Wedderburn through suspension and the cup tied Phil McGuire fielded a makeshift defence, with Jamie Mackie deputising, in the absence of a regular central defender. Richard Cargill returned between the sticks with Steve McEwan dropping to the bench.

United were out of the blocks like a shot and in the faces of their visitors from the off. A clue of what was to come came within 60 seconds as a vicious Barry Sibanda cross missed the head of his brother by millimetres. Another minute and Saints were in front, a delightful ball from Ricky Patrick was inch perferct for Sutherland who took it on before rifling the ball past a helpless Christie. Rose were stunned but could only hit the ball from deep in to the safe arms of Cargill and couldn’t find any threat to the Saints goal. Patrick was unlucky on 23 when he danced past three defenders before shooting straight at Christie. United doubled their advantage on 31 minutes, smart work in the box by Kadela saw him find space in the box before he found Lee Sibanda, the former Arbroath man picked his spot and curled the ball in to the bottom corner. Patrick turned jubilation in to delirium on 37 when he rose well to glance a Kadela cross beyond Christie and in to the net. Barry Sibanda should have made it four on the stroke of half time but Christie saved well.

The words of Linlithgow boss Bradley weren’t entirely clear but the gist was obvious by their volume, however, this all fell apart within 5 minutes of the restart. Firstly on 46 minutes Ovenstone was ordered off for violent conduct and then on 51 Meechan was shown a yellow card for a late challenge on Mackie and then a second for something he said to referee Lambie. Almost instantly Saints capitalised as Sutherland smashed home a cross from the right when he found himself in acres of space. The fifth came on 71 minutes and completed Sutherlands hat-trick as once agin he found himself in loads of space at the back post and rammed the ball in to the back of the net. McInnes made it 6-0 on 78 minutes when he steered a shot in to the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Linlithgows afternoon was completed on 87 minutes when Tommy Coyne was ordered off after a second yellow card.

Been pointed out that Saints back 4 and goalkeeper were all educated (I put that loosely) at Madras College in St Andrews.

Locality at its best.

That is quite correct, unfortunately they all had to leave St Andrews once they got to 16 to further there footballing education, which is one of the reasons we are behind the St Andrews Community Club to give youngsters somewhere to play football rather than have to go to Dundee or Edinburgh or the like

Well done Saints.Another superb result.

Finally getting the results your performances have warranted over the season,,long may it continue.

Who cares aboot missed penalties :thumsup2

It'll be better for my heart if we start scoring our penalties!!

A superb performance in which we battled like demons and outplayed the league leaders.

I must confess i thought last week's result may be a flash in the pan but if we perform like that week in week out we will surely win more games.

In my opinion I think we have been the better football playing team in most of the games this season, but for whatever reason the heads were going down far to easy when we lost 1st goal. Hopefully we have reached the turning point and keep it going and get oot o the relegation area.
