NE63 exile
I hear Mick Wadsworth is the new manager of Celtic Nation, the highly ambitious Carlisle non-league outfit (who play in front of one man and his dog) and will be assisted by his old Gretna pal Davie Irons. Word on the street in the Northern League is they are going full-time too next season.
Dunning1874
Wadsworth arrives at club; club enters administration within a year. This is known. Surprised Irons is going there, I always got the impression he hated Wadsworth.

RayBees
Are they honestly called Celtic Nation? Sounds like a traditional music festival.

ForzaDundee
I remember reading a bit about them last year. Seems as if they're wanting to create a Scottish/Irish team that plays in the English leagues. Daft idea.
WaffenThinMint
Again the goings on with this "Celtic Nation" grow more and more dubious. Wadsworth has also been poking around with his old friend Charlie Green shortly before everything imploded at the Orcs. Wadsworth arrives at club; club enters administration within a year. This is known. Surprised Irons is going there, I always got the impression he hated Wadsworth. Spot on re. Wadsworth - utter bar steward that sets everyone in a club against one another so he can be "peacemaker" between them. Wouldn't trust him to run the pie stall. As for Irons, that baboon has only ever been in it for himself - he'd shake hands with the de'il for sixpence, & backstab him the next day for someone else's tuppence. Sergeant Wilson
I got slaughtered on here last year for saying they might be trying some cross border jiggery pokery. Given the folk involved now......

HibeeJibee
Have they been accepted to Ground share at Gretna? Northern League chairman's blog would suggest it was on the cards? http://northernleague.org/blog/view_archive_chairmans_blog_detail.php?blog_id=20 but various non-league sites claiming FA wouldn't allow it? http://nonleaguezone.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=99114 http://www.adventuresinfootball.co.uk/grounds-visited/england/gillford-park/ http://nonleaguematters.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?post=484999 According to the NL website their home average this season is 62, last season it was 36. Prior to that (as Gillford Park FC) was 35 and 61. Can't be many clubs full-time on crowds barely double the number of players involved in a match...! What's the backstory - have they got a 'sugardaddy' bankrolling them, or some local business?
Sloop John B
According to wikipedia They apparently have sponsorship from an American millionaire called Francis E Lynch. WaffenThinMint
What's the backstory They've been sending out threatening lawyer letters to various English non-league web forums for daring to suggest there is anything dubious or sinister about paying Tier 3 players to go down to play at Tier 7. Draw your own conclusions.

What's the backstory - have they got a 'sugardaddy' bankrolling them, or some local business? It's a strange set-up from what I can gather. The club virtually had four back-to-back promotions from the bottom of division of the Northern Alliance League into the Northern League. They played from the old Carlisle Rugby League ground next to main West Coast Railway line. Then there was a massive fall out with the landlords who were the Railway Club IIRC and I can't remember if it was their first or second season in the Northern League but they were locked out of the own ground on health and safety reasons for about six months and had to play all their home games away. It ended up in the courts and it was some lawyer who followed another Northern League club took their case on and won it. I went to their first home league game when they joined the Northern League, an August Bank Holiday Monday fixture against Whitehaven and I was amazed how small the crowd was. Their support is paltry to say the least and I'm surprised at that because I thought they might have attracted a few fans with Northern League football on offer to a few curious United fans when the big team were playing away or not playing but it just hasn't seemed to take off which is strange. There are no other English non-league teams within 20 miles of Carlisle so I'm surprised it hasn't caught on. It's rumoured they are one of the top four payers in the Northern League this season. They have been signing some pretty high profile players from the North East so I'd safe it's safe to say they won't be travelling regularly across the A66 and A69 for just the picturesque journey. They do seem extremely ambitious but with such minimal support you can't help but think why and where it's going to end. The club don't appear to have entered this season's F.A Cup or F.A Vase which is strange. There has been some stand-off regarding the threat of legal action regarding posts about on them Nonleaguezone forum. I'm not really sure what's that's all about. They got a lot of support on there from fans of other clubs when they were locked out of Gillford Park but it appears as though someone may have took umbrage about comments regarding funding and it's progressed from there. The rumour regarding a ground share with Gretna is that the FA won't sanction it because it's in Scotland. Their current ground is decent but with them applying for promotion to the EvoStick League but I'm not sure if it's up to the standard.
HibeeJibee
Cheers, very interesting. Btw, they did enter the FA Cup but were expelled after beating Billingham Sythonia 1-0 and Dunston UTS 2-1, due to fielding an ineligible player... Phil Storey, infact, he of Annan Athletic and Gretna 2008. In the Vase they beat Birtley Town 4-0 then lost 2-0 to Thackley.

NE63 exile
Sorry HJ meant to say it was next season's FA Cup & Vase they haven't entered. The boy from Annan didn't have international clearance before turning out for them in the F.A Cup against Dunston in this season's competition. That was a costly error. Lou Brusch
Obviously more Seltic Nation than Keltic Nation. F**k 'em. They have Sean Bannon though, top right. On that basis, 'em will f**k you as he scored twenty-two in nine earlier this season for Carlisle City
