Hard to disagree with Kenny here.

Who else could challenge him?

Kenny Shiels says Paul Heffernan in the only candidate for the February's Player of the Month award 7 Mar 2013 17:21

THE 'brilliant' Irishman scored six in six games during the month and his manager believes he should lift the prize when the winner is revealed on Sunday.

KILMARNOCK boss Kenny Shiels claims striker Paul Heffernan should be handed the Clydesdale Bank Premier League player of the month prize for February - and insists no other player should come close.

The Rugby Park manager has been delighted with the form of the 31-year-old Irish frontman over recent weeks.

Heffernan - who missed the first 10 weeks of the season after breaking his collarbone - grabbed six goals in as many games during February, including four SPL strikes.

And Shiels claims that fact should weigh heavily in his favour when the monthly award winner is revealed on Sunday.

"Paul should get player of the month," said Shiels at today's pre-match media conference. "I can't see anyone who has played as well as Paul Heffernan. There's nobody close.

"I'm expecting him to get it. If he doesn't, I'll be disappointed.

"He's been brilliant for us and the way he has come back from injury has been impressive. We are delighted with him."

Killie take on St Johnstone on Saturday at McDiarmid Park but will travel to Perth minus five first-team players, leaving Shiels with a major selection headache.

He said: "The team news is not great because Garry Hay is injured, Rory McKeown is out, so that is the left side gone.

"I think Sammy Clingan will be okay, but Rory McKenzie is still injured, so is Borja Perez and Manuel Pascali obviously.

"So we are still scrapping about in those areas. It's not great, but there you go."

In the space of two weeks I have heard from two different reliable people say Kilmarnock are in deep trouble.
The first person told me the tax people are ready to pounce for unpaid bills. The next person ( banker ) has told me the bank are also calling in their debt. My understanding is Kilmarnock have to fix both these problems before Christmas.

Kilmarnock Football Club has today completed a deal to clear its debt, the club's Chairman Michael Johnston announced this evening. (14/03/14)

I gave Dean Shiels a bottle of 20/20 from our bus as an extra POTY pressie and Heff drank it.

Scores goals and loves the wine.

Cracking lad.

Paul Lawson.

A very good candidate.  His distribution and ability to break up play has been more influential than Hefferman in my opinion. Scoring goals shouts louder though, so Hefferman will probably take it.

Johnny Russell also scored six goals in six games last month, and played 20 minutes against Inverness with a broken leg. Nails.

Five games and forty minutes to be precise (20 with a broken leg). Also, Johnny's way more cool than this Heffernan guy, whoever he is.

Two goals against lower league opposition in the cup don't count.

And he did scud those orcs, but to be SPL Player of the Month you have to perform against the big sides and not diddy 3rd Division sides.

Heffernan's game is more than just about goals. He's billed as some sort of poacher, yet his finishing isn't great IMO. His hold-up and link-up play is better than any other SPL striker though.

Four goals in four and a bit SPL games for Russell; four goals in five games for Heffernan. Whichever way you slice it, Russell at least matched Heffernan in February in the SPL.

Heffernan shamed himself with that dive. Johnny Russell is more deserving.

He's done well to score all of those goals when he has such difficulty standing up, I grant you.

His finishing is second or third best in the league in terms of % chances converted.

To compare Heffernan's obvious dive to the debatable incident involving Cairney is ludicrous. Heffernan deserves disciplinary action, not an award.

Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young man laughs,

Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle,

Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse, and under his ribs the heart of the people.
