Alex Ferguson unsurprisingly thinks Cristiano is the better player. However his opinion is invalid due to him describing the older Ronaldo as "the fatter one". :barf

Ronaldo scored all of Real's goals 10 years ago and he was given a standing ovation when replaced during the second half. Asked for comparisons between the two Ronaldos, Ferguson said: "The older one, the fatter one, he was at his peak as a centre forward then. [Cristiano] Ronaldo is a supreme unbelievable athlete. He never misses a game, he has pace, physique, great in the air. They are different types of course but our main worry is not what happened 10 years ago but what happens
now."

Who do you think was the better player?

The new Ronaldo is probably better but I'd rather have the real Ronaldo. We never really got to see how good he could have been due to injuries.

Incidentally, I'd take Messi over them both, obviously.

The Original Ronaldo had more technical skills than the Imposter Ronaldo.  The Imposter is a far greater athlete and is probably the most efficient forward of the two.

The Imposter Ronaldo is the better player.  The Original Ronaldo had far more potential that the imposter but his career was sadly halted due to injuries.

Aye, the new Ronaldo is a better player. I'll always remember the original Ronaldo more fondly, due to my love of the game at the time.

Messi over both though.

The original Ronaldo.

I also remember him being written off before the 2002 World Cup, guess who won that and was top goalscorer?

I used to prefer the original Ronaldo to Cristiano Ronaldo but over the past year and a bit I've started to appreciate the latter more. New Ronaldo is just a fantastic athlete and is capable of truely fantastic stuff on the pitch. But as has been said already, the original Ronaldo was unfortunate with serious injuries early in his career and then later, struggled with his fitness. I still love original Ronaldo though for his performances in the 2002 World Cup.

Some people forget, Ronaldo was also a memeber of the World Cup winning USA 94 squad, under the name Ronaldinho (Little Ronaldo)  ;)

But after the show, walking to my car later that night in the car park, I saw Heidenreich in the corner of the car park squatting and taking a shit. I couldn't believe my eyes. I hurried my son into the car and I looked at this disgusting, vile man with nothing but pity. My opinion of him did a full 180. It was one of the most disgusting things I had ever seen in my life, and likely ever will.

Knew he was in the squad but didn't play but had no idea that was what he was being called though. The Brazil 2002 World Cup squad was one of my footballing highlights growing up so its obvious I would prefer Ronaldo to Cristiano. That was some team.

El Phenomenom any day of the week.

He played in serie A which was possibly the strongest league in history during the late 90s and played against the best defenders europe has ever had imo. He got kicked up and down the pitch with horror tackles which were simply just fouls back then and he had very little protection from referees. Before he picked up his first knee injury he was unplayable. Look at his stats at PSV and Barcelona. He was the complete striker. Considering the injuries he had throughout his career its a true testament to just how good he was that he still accomplished so much and came back time and time again.

The 2 of them are different players and i love Cristiano but R9 is my favourite player ever so im always gonna say him and i do honestly believe it is. Wouldnt mind Cristiano bagging a hat trick tonight though and putting out Man Utd.

What a goal a game got to do with showing up in big games? I've watched numerous games where the poorer of the two Ronaldos hasn't shown up in big games for Man u, Madrid and his Country.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in the champions league final, scored consistently in el clasicos since he joined Real Madrid (including the winner in the 2-1 win last season that pretty much killed Barca's hopes of winning the league.) He also dragged Portugal into the semi-finals of Euro 2012 with his goals against Holland and the Czech Republic despite being under a lot of pressure for not scoring in the first two games.

People only compare the pair of them because they share the same name.

Totally different players.

For what its worth Ronaldo is the best ever no9 when he was at the top of his game. Unstoppable.
