Sons host the Shire this Saturday 3rd November in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup. Admission prices are 12 & 6.

Sons are coming off the back of a disappointing home reversal against Airdrie, whilst East Stirlingshire were beaten 5 - 2 at Annan last weekend.

Whilst Dumbarton occupy 10th spot in Division One, the Shire are sitting 9th in Division Three. Sons should be able to get a rare win in this game, but that will only happen if they concentrate for the full 90 minutes instead of switching off in the second half as was the case against Airdrie. This will be the second match since Jack Ross took interim charge and a win and rare clean sheet would certainly do no harm to his chances of landing the job permanently.

What's this "win" you speak of, Pete? Sounds delightful.

Can't believe it's not a ticket game, what with Shire coming from Falkirk and all that.

The result of this game should have NO bearing on Jack Ross's capability for the job long term, if the job of appointing AA's replacement is done properly.

Correctomundo, you cannot base an appointment on a couple of games. If anything, Mr Ross may have a hard case to present, having already been involved at the coalface and apparently being the guy who whisked Steven McDougall from the airport to The Rock in a fast black for signing talks...pity he has never subsequently removed the blindfold.

Anyway, I believe Fleming is suspended so if Turner fails to make it the Shire may never have a better chance of 'giant-killing' :o

There appears to be so much interest in this that the thread had actually slipped onto the 2nd page of the forum

Who are the main threats in your team Shireys? Any ex Sons players in there who could come back to haunt us?

Does yon 'Mad Bill' still attend games armed with an array of plastic bags and that crazy daughter?

Is Joe Savage still chairman?

It does have that potential but I'd imagine Shire will have enough to avoid it.... Posted Image

We're in dire need of a win, if we don't get it here then all hope and belief will likely drain out the team and I can't see anyway back in the league. We should have enough to win this and if our defence can stop their arse collapsing for 90 minutes then we should be okay. Although for our defence that's a hell of an ask.....

Frankly I'm shiteing it just thinking about this game.... Posted Image

Bill only goes to one game a season now, somtimes you do miss him for a shout or two

Being the scottish cup I hope we can sneak somthing from the game but its a tough ask,
saying that we played well there in the challenge cup at the start of last season (3-2 defeat).

Going for 2-1 sons with a last min prunty goal

Ps Savo I hope will be on the bench.

I think we physically watched that happen when Airdrie's 4th went in.

Sons to be 6-0 up with 10 minutes to go. Shire to win 6-7.

A win here could go some way toward rectifying that, a defeat .... I don't even want to think about what that could do to us.

Regardless of league form we really should be able to see this one out with a comfortable win. This is an opportunity for the players to show thet they aren't as bad as recent results would show. 'Shire, with all respect to them, are in the lower end of Scottish Football for a reason, and there's a massive gulf in ability between our two respective divisions.

Think I'll take the Sons on the handicap betting this weekend, which will probably jinx it.

It looks like Creaney might be out for this, that probably means Forsyth at left back, although I could also see:
Devlin Graham Lithgow McNiff

I would go for:
Devlin Lithgow McNiff Creaney if fit (if he's injured we are fooked, it would mean Forsyth or McNiff)
Fleming Aggy Toyna Lamont
Lister Prunty

Well, it was a bit of an unconvincing win, despite the score. My MoM was Fleming. Good to see the defenders getting goals. Shire played some pretty decent football, but maybe that was just because it was a cup game. The scoreline flattered us a bit but if it helps the lads' confidence, then I'm happy with that.
One step at a time, a win at last.
Some of our fans need to get a grip, though. We're not Barca and to rip the pish every time they made a wee bloop is fucking demoralising for them. We're supposed to support them, not lambast them. Even when we were 2-1 up, some of the fans were screaming abuse for misplaced passes and sloppy defending. That's just not right - they need us to get behind them, not undermine them. Even if it's an unconvincing win we should support them, give them a bit of confidence, particularly when we are ahead.
Ok so it wasn't a cup-winning performance and it was stuttery at times, but it's the monkey off our back.

It wasn't a convincing win...but a win is a win and we're through to the next round.

While I tend to agree with ThirdRock's posting that there are too many negative Dumbarton supporters, we can't paper over the cracks.

Unfortunately, many of the weaknesses which have seen us shipping goals this season were evident again today. Sloppy passing and the back four not working as a unit. Some of the mistakes we made today would have been punished against many of our 1st Division opponents and we need to get it sorted quickly.

Nicky Devlin today seemed to fluctuate from appearing totally disinterested to flashes of the attacking full back we know and love. He was at fault for the goal and made several basic defending errors, but wanted to blame everyone except himself. He's still a young man so hopefully he'll continue to develop.

Fleming, Lister and Prunty played well, and Agnew showed promising signs of returning to the player he was last season.

Every Dumbarton supporter must continue to give their vocal support to the team during the 90 minutes. Any criticism and constructive analysis should be kept for the pub and on this forum.

Genuinely interested as to sons fans thoughts about agnew, a guy who I always thought was an outstanding div 2 and 3 player, but always had my concerns he was too lightweight for div1, time will tell but was today just because of the lower league opposition?
