Anyone else watch this?

I loved the comics so recorded episode 1 and just watched it.

Thought it was ok, but the guy playing Oliver is as wooden as f**k so far. Not sure if he's trying to play it dark and mysterious but he was a bit shite in episode one. Hopefully his performance gets better and the series lives up to the hype (in my head).

Thoughts?

This show was pretty much written off as shite by everyone over in the States before it aired, so it was a bit of a surprise when it done as well as it did. It aired right after/before Vampire Diaries so that obviously gave it a boost in terms of viewers but most of them stayed for the second episode the week after.

Perhaps it's because of low expectations but I've heard no complaints over the lead actor so far...ph34r.gif

I think the lead guy is good in the scenes where he doesn't need to speak, I think he does a good enough job of pulling off the dark, mysterious character that he is meant to be, its when he is 'acting' as his normal self that he comes across as wooden.

Decent show though, enjoyed the first two episodes

Quite enjoyed the 1st couple of episodes

Being a big Smallville fan I was a bit disappointed they didn't go with Justin Hartley to continue his role as Oliver Queen.

As expected it feels a lot like the later seasons of Smallville (in Metropolis)

Decent start

I think like has already been mentioned, that it was expected to flop, and it's surprise factor has factored towards it coming off pretty well in what has been for a very disappointing Fall season for new shows compared to the standards I've seen in recent years. Over 22 episodes for a commissioned season, I don't doubt that it will drop in quality at some points as you have to factor in that few shows could pull that off, let alone one from the CW network on the budget that it's on.

I have no problems with the lead actor, as he seems likable enough without needing to more complex than he is. Also, I feel his presence as Green Arrow is realistic enough to know that if I ever confronted the guy, he'd probably rip me in half like paper mache without needing CGI to create the illusion.

Just watched the pilot. Huge "meh" from me.

The "action" scenes where he was chasing the guy in the warehouse near the middle were laughably bad. Just the way he was jumping about looked stupid as f**k.

The lead actor didn't bother me too much, I just found the character to be boring as f**k. For somebody who's supposed to be a billionaire playboy, he has f**k all charisma. He certainly isn't anywhere near the likes of Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne in terms of the suave ladies-man.

I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting either.

I'll maybe give it a few other shows but tbh, I've got enough of my plate just now and I want to start watching Homeland so I don't think I'll bother.

THATS what the trailers reminded me of, thank you very much, it had been driving me mad for ages

biggrin.gif Not fiercely. I mean, I did vote Batman Arkham City and Asylum ahead of every Marvel game in my Top 15/20 games for the P&B poll thing so there are occasions where DC beats Marvel and I'll give the company props for it, this is not one of those rare occasions.

I watched the second episode, it was alright. I still don't care for any of the characters though. I do like the Island story (no spoilers) and I want to know what the f**k happened there so that'll probably keep me hooked.

(might be a spoiler from episode 2)

I don't like how the cop investigating Green Arrow just happens to be the dad of Oliver's love interest and the girl who died on his boat. It just feels too contrived. One of the connections (him being the dad to either or them being sisters) is fine but to have both of them is a bit to much.

This week's crook totally called it though, no fucking way would that detective be allowed on his case while his daughter was prosecuting him in court. It's not even a case of suspending belief because it's a comic book theme, it's just stupid.

For me, for the resources of the show compared to most others, I found that it has used its assets remarkably well. For me, it ticked all the boxes, as I've been waiting on a proper comic book TV show to come out for a while. Smallville was ok, but it's early seasons were fucking woeful.

when is this on?

Sky Living on Mondays, US pace on Wednesdays ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just caught up with the last 2 episodes. It's growing on me, I have to say.

However, his disguise is the worst one ever. A hood? I mean it doesn't even cover his face. He stands in front of his ex talking to her in a silly voice and a hood she doesn't know who it is?

Oh Olivers maw is a c**t.

I'm enjoying this, it's good in a "switch your brain off" kinda way. There's also enough going on to keep it interesting

As Comics geeks may already have guessed, his sister "Speedy" is surely going to end up in trouble with drugs, OD or something http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowbirds_Don't_Fly

the love triangle stuff between him his mate and Laurel will develop

The relationship between him and his bodyguard will develop

the island flashbacks

His evil mother

The "evil rich guy of the week" narrative is a nice twist on the "monster of the week" style you used to see in X-Files, Smallville. It's also quite fitting given we're in the era of "Occupy"

It's not The Wire, but it's an entertaining hour, if you can ignore plotholes and suspend your disbelief.

Aye, nonsense. Get an old school mask to cover the eyes at least!
