Just been here on the way back home. Magic smoked haddock supper with brown sauce on the chips (just salt on the fish of course)

Used to be owned by my dads cousin. Gone downhill now, obviously. For future reference the chipper/chippy a mile down the road in gourdon is far superior, and if you sit-in there are lovely views over the harbour

What the f**k is a chipper ?
A fish and chip shop.
To me a 'chippy' sounds like something that a 5 year old would ask for but each to their own I suppose.
"Reekin' in Brechin, oh I was f***in' steamin'..."

To me, 'chipper' sounds like the way in which you'd respond to the question 'how are you feeling today?' if it was the 1950s and you were in Eton at the time.

Scots-English Lesson #341
You get a chippy from the chipper.
I always reckon that if the chips are good enough, they don't need any sauce. Although if you get a red pudding supper, it should always ALWAYS be accompanied by beans, bread and butter, and a cup of tea.

I use both.. 'I'm away to the chipper.' or, 'What are you wanting from the chippy?'

It's got to be salt and loads and loads of vinegar on chips, fish and chips or a sausage supper.
I don't do 'sauce' on chips, as a rule.
I imagine 'chipper' is a term more commonly used the further north you go.
