I have a three-week holiday coming up in March and quite fancy building myself a PC. Not sure if I'll keep it for myself or sell it on as it's just for a bit of fun. Should hopefully be able to put together a decent system for less than the price of buying one factory built.

Any other self-builders here? This will be my first full build, although I've done plenty of tinkering about inside PCs before I've never built one from scratch. If I do decide to sell it I'm not bothered about making any money from it.

I built my current PC from scratch, it really isnt difficult. If you've been "tinkering" you shouldnt have any problems.

Look out on sites like e-buyer for "bundles" they quite often sell a mb/processor and memory together. It usually works out a bit cheaper, but you also know youre buying a mb and processor that will work well together.

Thats always been the hardest part for me. Picking a decent, reasonably priced, mb to go with whatever CPU Ive decided on.

Ive built my last 3 PCs from scratch.

When I decide its time for a new PC I usually spend hours online reading up on the newest components. Its not something I keep up to date on as I dont constantly update so it would be a waste of time to constantly read up on it. I quite enjoy building my own PC and you end up with a much better machine than one you buy pre built.
