No surprises are to be found, and if you don't want to read the full report you can see the summary on the BBC site... http://www.bbc.co.uk...siness-16951878
‎"Member clubs are mindful of a sporting integrity aspect but the commercial benefits outweigh that." - Michael Johnston (Kilmarnock FC Chairman).
"Personally I think we need to keep Rangers in the SPL. I don't care that fans will be upset with that." - Peter Houston (Dundee United Manager).

depressing stuff, just shows how difficult football has become for teams outwith the select elite. <_<

It is yep. The only way you can challenge the status quo is to find a wealthy oil baron or oligarch to run your club at a monumental loss every year.

Bit surprised at the gap between the Spanish two and Man Utd.

It certainly is depressing reading when you consider the financial resources of our own teams.

Read through to the section on match day revenues, they are closer. There aren't any real surprises for me in that list. Perhaps the wealth Bayern Munich have at their disposal or perhaps the match day revenue of the lesser German teams like Stuttgart or Hamburg, but all in all it's as you would expect.

They do feature in the top 20 of match-day income generators. You must be able to fit most of 'the world' in Ibrox or Parkhead, I reckon

They both have been on that list in the last 5 years or so, but no chance anymore.

Bayern Munich are probably one of the best run clubs in World football. The president, Uli Hoeneß has made sure that the club never spends more than what it earns, and has always treated the club as a business enterprise where off field success has led to on field success. They don't offer the biggest transfer fees or the highest wages and they tend to mix the team with purchases and youth team graduates.

Really?

And here was me thinking they regularly rape the rest of German football for their talent by offering huge transfer fees and wages and have bought in the likes of Robben and Ribery on massive contracts.

So nearly all their money is generated at the turnstyle.

Once again reality bites the old firm. They are not massive worldwide brands but rather big clubs in Scotland propped up by bigots.

The gap isn't as big as it used to be but the idea that Bayern don't pay big wages is absurd. Ribery's on around €200k a week - far more than other big hitters elsewhere in the league like Raul, Michael Ballack etc. They're well-run, no doubt about it, but they're also not at all scared to spend.
Ol' Hick'ry said we could take them by surprise if we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked them in the eyes

Which is of course, exactly how it should be.

It's perfectly possible for a club that size to run at a profit and still spend relatively big. Man Utd would be pretty much exactly the same were it not for the debt millstone that had nothing to do with transfer and wages outlay.

Compared to the rest of Europe they don't. And even within Germany, as Hamburg, Schalke and Dortmund can offer similar. And you only mention two players. Who else is there? Neuer? Schalke were under no pressure to sell, Gazprom are bankrolling them through sponsorship, and we willing to beat the wages Bayern were offerring him.

Almost all of their money is self generated, they are a very efficient business. In every league, you will always have the biggest teams from the biggest cities coming out on top. Munich has something like 1.5million people in the city, bigger than most cities in Europe. The BL has a very fair money distribution from TV rights etc, so all other money has to be self generated, and for Munich, that comes mainly from gate receipts, club membership, merchandising and sponsorship.
