Most sources, including RSSSF, and the Glasgow FA's site narrative, say the Glasgow Cup ended at first-team level in 1988, and give results accordingly... However, the last edition for first-teams was actually 1988-89.

Partick Thistle beat Clyde 2-0 in the Final... anyone have other the scores and dates?

EDIT: And the final venue.

The 1989-90 Wee Red Book lists a Semi Final result of Queen's Park 0-1 Partick (Grant) and your Final result of Partick 2-0 Clyde (Mitchell, McCoy).

No other results, dates or venues- unless the Old Firm didn't enter and Clyde got a bye to the final? Given that both Thistle and Clyde played at Firhill at the time, I'd imagine the final was there.

Thistle beat Clyde 2-0 at Firhill (Home of both clubs back then).

Goals from John Mitchell and Gerry McCoy.

The programme notes mentions that the Final from 1987-88 between Rangers & Celtic was due to be played between Monday 8th May 1989 but was cancelled.
The draw for 1988-89 semi finals had paired Thistle v Rangers and Clyde v Celtic, so the 'semis' were cancelled and Thistle and Clyde put through to the final.
Thistle beat Queen's Park in a 1st Round tie.

Anyone got any info on what happened to Season 82/83's tournament?

According to the PTFC history book, we beat Queen's Park 2-0 in a semi final tie but there is then no mention of the final.

According to the QP statisical history, Thistle beat Queen's 2-0 on 10/05/1983, but notes that this was a preliminary tie to 83/84 competition.

That was the only Glasgow Cup game we played that season, either we didn't enter the 82/83 competition (although I would be very surprised if we hadn't) or there was no competition that season?

I've the results as follows for 1982-83:

10th May 1983... First Round... Partick Thistle 2-0 Queen's Park

remainder held-over to 1983-84

9th August 1983... Semi-Final... Partick Thistle 0-2 Celtic
10th August 1983... Semi-Final... Clyde 0-1 Rangers

13th August 1983... Final... Rangers 1-0 Celtic (@Hampden)

Scottish Football Historical Archive is slightly odd - in that it has no First Round tie (i.e. suggests Queen's Park didn't enter), and that Partick 2-0 Queen's Park on 10th May 1983 was the First Round tie for 1983-84 played early (i.e. end of the preceding season) but then the rest of 1983-84 was abandoned.

However, what I've put above would seem to make more sense, and the Glasgow FA site has 1983-84 as "No Competition" as opposed to "Not Completed". But QPsnapper's post suggests no 1982-83 edition, and they were all 1983-84 ties !!

Anyone?

I've checked the Glasgow Herald. On the day of the Partick-Queen's Park tie a short preview makes no mention of the edition; the day after (day of Aberdeen v Real Madrid in the CWC Final btw) there's a short report, which says Partick will meet Celtic in a Semi-Final at Parkhead (clearly later switched), but again no mention of edition.

On the day of Partick v Celtic again there's no mention of edition, and similarly in the match report the next day (which notes the game was watched by Sheikh Basrahil Makkah "the king currently being wooed by Partick") and accompanying Clyde v Rangers preview. Same again in that game's report the next day.

Similar situation at the Final, which relates it being "a showpiece to celebrate the centenary of the Glasgow Association".

CelticWiki has them as the 1982-83 ties held-over, which makes more sense IMO.

EDIT: I guess the question is... did they have to/want to hold-over 1982-83 to the start of 1983-84, then - either owing to that or to subsequent backlogs - cancelled 1983-84... or did they decide to cancel 1982-83 without a tie being played, and played the 1983-84 R1 tie early to facilitate 1983-84 SFs > Final in opening week of 1983-84.
