Exactly - a world class manager like Capello could do f*** all with England, what chance does a merely very good manager like Redknapp have.

Being a bit kind to 'arry there.

Harry Redknapp is not a tactical manager. He will be a massive failure at England when it comes to playing decent teams with a tactically sound manager.

Actually, the sooner 'arry gets the job, fails and gets the boot, the sooner we can start reading about something else.

If it isn't 'arry then the next mananger is still going to have his shadow peering over his shoulder all the time and the press on his back until their chosen one eventually gets the job.

They've only 1 friendly before June - and it's 3 weeks today... so I think the smart betting will be on Rednapp continuing with Spurs for now but becoming England caretaker, or permanent (leaving Spurs in May), perhaps being assisted in that tie by Stuart Pearce.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell advised English Football Association officials on the benefits of adopting the Rooney Rule designed to create more opportunities for black and minority coaches. The FA and League Managers' Association has spent several months exploring the possibility of emulating the NFL's Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate when filling head coach and general manager positions.

Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney, who pushed for the diversity rule that was eventually named after him, joined Goodell in a meeting with FA officials this week. "We're more than happy to share our perspective in anything we do," Goodell said Saturday. "What that has done is create more opportunities for African-American coaches and other minority coaches to become NFL head coaches because you've had to look at a broader slate of qualified individuals.

"And that has been good for our game (and) it's good business. And that was exactly our message to the FA officials."

Goodell is in London for Sunday's regular-season NFL game at Wembley Stadium between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears, teams that have black head coaches.

Tampa Bay's Raheem Morris and Chicago's Lovie Smith are among seven black head coaches and one Hispanic coach working in the NFL. When the Rooney Rule was implemented in 2003, there were three black coaches.

Among England's 92 professional clubs over the top four divisions, there are only two black managers — Chris Hughton at second-tier Birmingham and Chris Powell at third-tier club Charlton.

In the Premier League — the world's richest soccer league — all 20 managers are white.

I'm a bit worried Mourinho will go for it. It would suit his ego perfectly and he's always talked about going back to England...

I disagree, that's a game 'Arry plays to endear himself to the press. I think he's quite astute actually. He certainly isn't as clueless as he'd have you believe.

*Not that i have any idea how he'll do with England.

Van der Vaart came out and said he doesn't do tactics but picks the best 11 players and tells them to go out and play.

My first feeling was that this is too soon for Redknapp but when I thought about it he's never been scared to walk out on a club doing well. I also think the "job was too big to turn down" line will be enough to appease the pissed off spurs fans.

If he joins England, he'll surely finish the season with Spurs. That way he gets to take all the platitudes for "taking them back into the Champions League", then heads off to "lead the nation into battle".

Assuming "top, top, triffic, jail evader 'Arry" gets the job, essentially what the FA has done is Swap they're country's most successful manager ever (win percentage wise) who has won every major title in Spanish, Italian and European football for a tax evading crook who's won an FA cup in 30 years...genius. Not like England to have a meltdown prior to an international tournament. Long may it continue.

Must be an English manager for the England job. Just need to look at their success in the Premiership.
