Read in today's evening times the Roy have been linked to ex raith rovers captain Mark Campbell currently at queen of the south .

Mentions in the article he is from Auchinleck ? Any chance one of you Talbot boys know him and can go round ask him if he is coming to the Roy !

Seriously though sounds like a good signing , IF it came off .

Anyone know what age the guy is ? I am guessing he has a fair bit of experience

I think he's originally from Irvine, and he currently works in Kilmarnock Prison. He's just turned 34. He's certainly surplus to requirements at Palmerston, so it makes sense.

Cheers for the info , seems to have a decent pedigree behind him and we could probably do with another centre back .

His one major failing is a lack of pace. However, he is an absolute beast in the air.

Tbh sounds like what we are after , would bring good experience to the team , only drawback is him being from Auchinleck but i can live with that if we signed him .

Bear with me if I've got my facts wrong but I'm sure it was either Mark or Martin Campbell who played with Meadow about 10 years ago. A big strong centre half who totally dominated in the heart of defence. I believe he moved on to Ayr United. I'm sure someone will step in and set the record straight.

Martyn Campbell Signed for Ayr Utd in 2005

Just a pity he has had a lot of injury problems

Almost everyone from Ayrshire of a certain age was born at the hospital in Irvine (though Kilmarnock is now the place)! Just as everyone from the South West is born in Dumfries or, less commonly, Stranraer.

Seems he played over 125 games for raith rovers , where our manager has strong links . No doubt jimmy knows the guy well and thinks he will do a good job in the juniors that's why he will be after him .

Comes from Auchinleck. His dad Tom played for the Talbot in the early 70's.

Good to see the Roy are following in Tucker's footsteps and going for youth.

Having had the 'pleasure' of seeing both Marvin Andrews and Mark Campbell play for Queens in recent times, the latter is far less of a bombscare. Campbell would be a good signing, I'm sure.

I don't really care if he is as slow as a week stuck in Auchinleck geo , I would take a punt on him anyway.
