Trolls seem to be either under the age of 16, or just people who are really, really, really bored and have nothing else going on in their life other than the internet.

Or are really really bored at work :D

You need to draw a distinction between online bullying/harassment and common-or-garden trolling. Trolling was originally posting inflammatory/controversial/deliberately wrong things on message boards/newsgroups and laughing at the indignant responses. The kind of trolling that involves basically fucking up an individual's life is totally different. And I think the people who shrug that off with "just turn off the computer" are missing the point.

Cheers Swampy.

Call me stupid (most folk do) but I'd genuinely no real handle on what trolling was before reading that.

I watched most of this and while I felt sorry for the young girl with the webcam, whoever was doing it must have creamed themselves when the father came on and went absolutely mental. While I think the "just turn off the computer" line is hardly the answer, reactions like that just encourage trolls even more.

See the dad got done for child abuse a few months after the video, then, a few months after that, died.

Trolls really are sad, sorry, pathetic c***s. "Oh tee hee, I'm saying things to wind people up, people who I don't even know! Oh hahahaha! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!"

Firstly, parents really do need to take far more responsibility as to what thier kids are doing online. Until the kid can be trusted to not flounce off in tears at a nasty remark left on Facebook, the parent really should be knowing exactly what their kid is doing online. Posting videos, although extreme, like that lassie did is breathtakingly stupid, and parents shouldn't be allowing it.

Really, what's the point? Would they go up to random people on the street and do the same thing? It's the same principle is it not? Winding up complete strangers for no reason other than to get a 'laugh'. Tee-hee! But of course they wouldn't, and not just because they'd most likely get a punch in the puss, but more likely than not they'd be ignored or simply told to f**k off. That is if they even were to do it in real life, which of course they never would. The internet gives them protection and lets them act all big and superior, like the sneaky wee fucks they truly are. 'Trolling' smacks of cowardice and pointlessness and just makes someone look like an utter c**t. It would be too easy and simplistic to say that they are compensating for something (e.g. being a friendless p***k who is utterly unlikeable), but why do 'trollers' 'troll'?

Serious question. Any answers? No, it's not funny. No, it isn't a laugh. It's just massive dickhead behaviour, and in real life if you were with a group of friends and one of them kept trying to'troll' everyone, would you find that person amusing, or would you think them to be a massive tosser?

If there's one thing which is going to stop 'trolls' from 'trolling', it's posts like DA Baracus's.

Predictable replies. How can a medium that allows hundreds of millions people access produce so little unoriginal thought?

Yeah, realised that too late. Such an unpleasant response to such a pleasant post could only have been intended to provoke a reaction.

Trolls like him make me sick. Bet he wouldn't say it to my face.

You are trolling though. You're looking for a reaction or bite by doing that.

I watched this tonight on iPlayer and it was quite unsettling viewing at times. I'm probably not far off the mark when I say the prime suspects behind these "trolling" attacks are sad, lonely virgins who spend 20 hours a day on the computer and feel the need to satisfy their miserable existence by reveling in the misery of others. It's sad that this happens - it really is - and it's not a case of "people are too easily offended these days".
Kinda sums it up for me
