It's all about interpretation I suppose. I was at the game and from behind the goals I thought it was a red, however after seeing it back the key for me (as others have pointed out) is that our player (Walker) wasn't really in control of the ball when he went down, so therefore I couldn't class it as a 'Clear Goal-Scoring Opportunity', and as their is no law regarding 'last man fouls' for me a yellow would have sufficed.

I have to say having watched the Stenny highlights that I think it is a red. Defender does push him in the back, so Walker must have been in front of him

I guess (without defending the ref) that given we all have different opinions and thats after seeing 2 sets of highlights....not the easiest decision to call

I was wondering why Gaz didn't put it in but it would seem that it's because their was actually f**k all wrong with the challenge and a total non event. Anyone claiming he's elbowed him and deserved a red for that is deluded.

no, what actually happens is once I've the footage is almost done I sit down with the chairman, the manager, a referee & an SFL official & we discuss what would be the best way to further edit the footage to miss out bits that the opposing fans want to see, in this way we make sure the highlights don't show how we all coluded together on the field to ensure a sons victory & keep the glorious sons on course to be the new institution team, it's all going to plan swimmingly but don't tell anyone because if people found out we'd be in a lot of trouble, certainly don't stick it up on P&B or anything, yeah

Having been at the match then watched both TV films, I am more that convinced that Walker dived when he realised he had lost control of the ball.

Looks to me from the Warriors TV coverage that the foul was given for a push in the back. As Walker was running on to the ball, without the push he'd have got there and so have had a goal scoring opportunity. If that's what the ref saw he was right to give the red card.

Make your fucking minds up eh? First it wasn't a sending off because he didn't have control of the ball and now Walker should have been booked for diving after he lost control of the ball.

several different viewpoints by Arthur McTague in the Falkirk Herald this week.

He's quoted Irons as saying

Quote

The lad Walker is in front of the ball and has kicked Ross McQuillan as he is trying to bring his leg round and has gone down

At the time I thought the sending off was harsh, neither clubs' highlights changed that opinion for me, but that description is nothing like what actually happened.

McTague appears to have Allan-like myopia with this

Quote

Brown Ferguson was then felled with an elbow from Martin McNiff and was carted off to hospital as the midfielder was merely shown yellow

The Stenny highlights, for me, show this as an unfortunate clash of heads, rather than an elbow, and while I wish Ferguson a speedy recovery, he wasn't 'felled' and clashes of heads like happened happen dozens of times a season. Irons, to be fair, is later quoted as saying "I'm not saying their lad did it deliberately"

Quote

Kevin McKinlay stupidly chucked the ball away in anger when a foul was given against his side and having previously been booked, joined McMillan and Irons on the sidelines

err, he bounced and caught the ball, and it was a corner that was given.

To quote Jimmy Sanderson, was he at the game?

Whenever a decision is a bit contentious, as this one was. I try to think of it, as if it had happened to us. And in all honesty if one of our defenders was sent off for that I wouldn't be happy. In saying that, as mentioned before it was daft of the defender to make any contact at all, as he then forces the Ref to make a decision. but if I was a Stenny fan (God Forbid! :P ) I'd be distinctly unimpressed by the red card.

Having finally gotten around to watching the highlights of the game, I have to say I think the dismissal of Ross McMillan can certainly be deemed harsh. I would say that yes, Pat Walker is probably in control of the ball, but it looks more like a coming-together than a deliberate denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity, to me. I can see why the referee has made that decision, but to be honest, I'd have been fuming if it had been us on the end of that decision.

That said, the sending-off of Kevin McKinlay is as clear-cut as you'll see. He's already been booked (for whatever, I don't know what as I wasn't there), but then to slam the ball down the way he did was just sheer stupidity, and there should be absolutely no complaints with the way the referee handled that one.

Lastly, the Stenny goalkeeper pulled off some great saves near the end of those highlights, a couple in the melée in which we were denied on two or three occasions in quick succession.
