Hi, i've been driving buses for 4 months now. Just wondered if any of you guys or girls work or worked in this industry, i've had 2 minor accidents, i've knocked 2 wing mirrors off. So not too bad.

Hope you have your 'cheers Love' patter sorted. Posted Image
Remember the first few times drivers said it i was WTF did he just call me love?

The worst buggers where the last buses coming out of harehills at night, they just wanted to get in and wouldn't stop for anyone.
And after 9pm not many taxis where particularly happy to come and get you.

Yea, the old Torry Road depot, no wonder. Harehills is like Basra quite literally. I'm based in Hunslet, i moved from Bramley as its closer to where i live. I use my best Fife "nae bother neebs" as people get off the bus :)

One of my pals told me its now the law to let a bus out if its indicating, is this true?

Buses in Paisley are a fkin nightmare, far too many. They barge their way in front of you only to pull in at the next stop down the street and they leave the arse of the bus sticking out so you cant get by.

I don't think it's written as law, but i personally think its to do with common courtesy, when i pull away i tend to wait a bit. And sometimes you simply have no choice but to pull out as long as you signal you're intentions early.

I know what you mean though it's fucking annoying when a driver keeps his arse sticking out, even other bus drivers get annoyed with it.

As a bus driver perhaps you could answer this question that's been troubling me for some time, why are bus drivers such torn faced p***ks?

That's a good question, as i'm new to the job i haven't been a torn faced p***k yet. But i'm sure it'll happen, i think mainly it's to do with the attitude of passengers. I mean i know that these people have been stressed out at work, and the only way to vent the anger is to take it out on the bus driver. ie if we're late, the bus is packed full and there's no seats left, fare disputes. Or its a case of "if you treat me like shite, i'll treat you like shite".

That's exactly why. I drove them for about 16 years (10 full time) and it was just in the last couple of years (of full time) of it that I turned into a grumpy b*****d. But then, when you get folk treating you like shit for 6 days a week then it's no surprise. I did have a couple of years driving St Mirren supporters buses, though, so that meant that I got to all the away games - and got paid for going. :D

Its not true. The highway code says something like "Please let buses pull out from bus stops" but it is not a requirement in law. That's why so many leave the arse of the bus hanging out - because nobody stops voluntarily to let them out.

I had a few big accidents during my time but none were my fault. Brakes failed coming down Cumbernauld Road in Glasgow and ended up doing about 40 into the back of a stationary bus. Ripped the back end off a car that came through a red light in front of me.

I got on a bus once.

But it was full of poor people so I got off at the next stop.

There used to be one of those guideway things in Edinburgh on the #22 route, I used to get it from the Powerleague at Sighthill after playing 5s. Might not be there now if it's been ripped up for actual tramlines.

Yep it ran along side the E&G. They have not riped it up but have just put the track in the guideway.

Bus, truck, taxi and van drivers are the most courteous, professional drivers on the road.
Its the car driving commuters and school run drivers who congest the roads with poor driving and lack of consideration for other road users.

That's so true, they're worse than cyclists imo. Car drivers are ignorant c***s, and i'm guilty of the same cuntishness when i'm driving a car.
