Hart
Johnson
Cahill
Lescott
Richards
Young
Downing
Gerrard
Barry
Walcott
Bent
Hart
Johnson
Cahill
Lescott
Richards
Young
Downing
Gerrard
Barry

Now that Wilshere is out Scholes is being mentioned again, can anyone see it happening?

I can't really see it happening, but it probably should, at least from an England stand-point. There's not many players current available for England that have the sort of poise and ability that Scholes has. If there was, of course he wouldn't get a look in, as spots should go the younger players, but there just isn't a player that can come close to him.
From an England stand-point, I would definitely enquire about his availability. From a United perspective though, they won't want him anywhere near the team. He still has something to offer his team, and as plenty of players have proved (even Scholes himself), cutting short your international career prolongs your overall playing career.

I believe he only retired because he wasn't getting to play in his preferred position. They tried shunting him out wide, and he didn't fancy it.
I suspect he will play if asked, provided it will be in centre midfield.

Hart
Richards Terry King Cole
Parker Carrick
Walcott Lampard Young
Rooney
I wouldn't really want Young in there but Oxlade-Chamberlain isn't ready yet and the other options aren't great.

The difference he's made to the Man Utd midfield should be a pretty big clue to what he can offer. He's certainly no worse than what they have, so asking would do no harm. I could see him saying yes, going out of football altogether at a major tournament with England.

Hart
Johnson Cahill Terry Baines
Wilshere Parker Gerrard
Walcott Rooney Young

Yeah, that's true. It wasn't specifically to prolong his United career. He was not used to the best of his abilities when he was an England player. I also read that he didn't like the summer International competitions as he was away from his family for too long, but that could just be paper talk and rumour.
Whether he would or not, I'm not sure. I remember hearing he was asked to come back for WC2010, but it was at the eleventh hour, and he was given minutes to decide. He understandably said no then, but could he resist this time around? If he has a part to play at Utd next season, he could probably do without the extra games. Time will tell, but I really hope he does play.

............................HART..........
........................
RICHARDS, TERRY, LESCOTT, BAINES
............SCHOLES.........PARKER....... ..........
MILNER...........GERRARD.............YOUNG
.........................ROONEY.......... .....................
They wont play the best available 11, they will try and fit Lampard, Ferdinand, Cole etc all in just cos they are big names/egos.
in actual fact the current England squad is not great when you look at it!!!

Hart
Richards - Ferdinand - Lescott - Cole
Lampard - Parker - Milner
Chamberlain - Rooney - Young
Attempting this has made me realise how poor England's midfield is. Multiple options, but pretty much all of them are average. None of them come close to being as good as Scholes. Quarter-finals at best.

If Harry takes over - which i suspect he will as he'd have came out by now and ruled himself out - then i expect he will line up as:
.......................................Hart. ..........................................
..Johnson...........Terry................ .Lescott...........Cole........
...........................Parker........ .......Barry.............................. ..
.....Walcott....................Gerrard.. .................Young..............
.....................................Carroll. .......................................... .
Harry likes his fast wide men who can stretch defences & likes his big man up front.
Barry & Lescott are the only two im not so sure will start.

If I were the new England manager, I'd be doing everything in my power to persuade Scholes for one last rodeo.

The problem is finding the right team for the two Rooney-less games - one that'll wint he matches but not need to be disrupted massively to get rooney back in.
If Redknapp does get it, I could see a deep lying pair of Parker and Carrick.

I [agree/disagree] with your assessment because you [praised/insulted] a [team/person] that I [support/loathe]. Furthermore, I [admire/ridicule] your writing based on the previous statement, and not on the merit of what was actually written.

it's good to see the general consensus has recognised that terry is still england's best centre half.

Its more a sign of the lack of depth at CB for England. He will still be exposed - like at the World Cup - at some point in the latter stages in the Euro's if they get through.
