never actually thought about this until i read a bit about it on another thread, which has the more quality? imo the top half of the central would all win the ayrshire league (remember not gospel, only an opinion), some good teams in the ayrshire league though kilwinning, troon etc. how would central second teams do against bottom half of the ayrshire league? for example how would these games go :
perthshire v maybole
shettleston v troon
greenock v kilwinning
carluke v muirkirk
maryhill v saltcoats
forth v ardeer
??????????

no question Top three in ayrshire would wipe the floor with all Central sides Just look at Buffs Vs Ants - 3-0 Buffs Vs Blantyre 3-1 ...just an opinion

By that reckoning Maryhill would beat Kilwinning then since they beat Blantyre 4-0 with 10 men for an hour and I'm pretty sure the ants are mid table as well

Hard too compare the two but from the two games we have played we won very very comfortably

To be honest Bufter i felt we never had to get out of 2nd gear in those two games
The most impressive Central District i have seen funny enough was when we played Lesmahgow at Abbey Park in a friendly in July where they pushed us close we won that 2-1
Although i do think if we face Larkhall in the Scottish they will be the best Central district side we will have faced,

And you played us last season and lost 4-0
If I remember the ref helped you guys with that by handing out a good few red cards to carluke players

There's a much wider spread of ability in the ADL, the top few teams there are very good sides, and there are quite a number of others with recentish Superleague experience, the likes of Lugar, Annbank and Saltcoats, but because it's as low as you can go in the Ayrshire setup, there are also quite a few teams who are bottom end of Central Div 2 level. Suppose you can only judge the relative strengths of the leagues by the results when sides from the Central and Ayrshire district leagues meet in the Junior Cup and West of Scotland Cup. Round 1 of the West threw up the following:
Darvel 1 Yoker 3
Benburb 4 Troon 4 (Troon on pens)
Carluke 5 Muirkirk 0
Vale of Leven 7 Craigmark 1

all home wins imo
how can you say there is a much wider spread of ability in the ayrshire league and then post the above results that kinda prove the point that the central league has more quality????

I posted them as they were the only games between the two setups in this year's Round 1 - I don't think there's any doubt the likes of Troon, Maybole, the Buffs and maybe a few others would prosper in Central Div 1 if the two set-ups were merged, whereas those results bear out what I was saying that the lower end of the ADL equates to the bottom end of Central Div 2, with a top end Div 2 team (Carluke) and a lower end Div 1 team (VOL) winning big. Because there's only one Ayrshire Division, you've got that wider spread of ability within that division between the likes of Maybole at the top and Darvel at the bottom, than you do in the Central two division set-up.

ok cheers hill thanks for the reply although i have to disagree as i think maybole, troon buffs would be mid table/bottom half teams in the central first division, only my opinion (also taking into consideration beating troon 4-0 in the scottish last season and beating irvine vics 5-1 in a friendly at the start of the season and we are by no means a top team in our league, i know this dosent mean much but just using it as a guideline)

Carluke played kello away in a friendly in per season that ended 1-1 & after 90 mins away to Troon in the cup the score was 2-2 so pretty much even with the top of the 2nd & the top of the Ayrshire district league so far .
