I would be devastated if my dog died. They become a family member. Not sure if I would take a day though. I'm the type that prefers to have something to take my mind of it. If I was to take a day off, I'd use my annual leave.

Depends what time it dies. My last dog got put to sleep in the evening and the vet - a family friend - did all the necessary things and returned the ashes a few days later. In that instance I would have gone to work the next day.

If folk want to take time off to mourn their dead pets then let them. As long as its out their holiday allocation. If they want to play at being buckled emotional disaster areas then let them do it at their own expense.

I've had loads of pets that died over the years, some of them were great companions and I was gutted when they died. But I still managed to make it into work next day FFS!

exactly. When my wee girl goes, I expect I will be completely heartbroken and I will be taking the day off, as quite frankly, I don't think I will be giving it all in my job.

But it will be unpaid leave or annual leave.

So there's room for maneuver....
Semantics.

You work in the shed at the end of your garden. You had to go in to work to fetch the spade.

True. I have a bit of a pet cemetery on the go at the northern end of the policies.
