Depends what it is, if it's a goldfish or a hamster - obviously you need grieving time.

Depends on the person really. If one of my pets died i would be gutted but not that gutted I spent the full day thinking of nothing else.

Only if you kill it yourself. Guilt added to grief gets you extra bunking off points.

If it was a horse and it was lying on top of you, pinning you down, no brainer.

No. Never.
How would you feel if 4 of your dogs had died throughthe year and you had plenty time off, then, cunish, yer granny dies and you can't get time off?
I'll stick to phoning in sick with a broken flask.

If it died whilst you were up to the back wheels in it, then yes, I think it's only right.

When the family dog died at 15 years old, i was rather upset. I never grew up with any brothers or sisters n no matter what kind of mood yer in the dog was always there for a we bit of comfort. Was only working part time at the time so i remember not going into work that night.
Every situation is different, if you were the boss though you would be upset about this skyline?

Talking about dogs....I hear your number 25 cord at yer maw-in-laws funeral G_Man. Here's hoping she doesn't get buried at sea, you'd think she'd had had enough of semen.

I've never had a dog, but they can live until they're 16 or so. They're part of the family and it must be awful when they die. Same goes for cats. It's understandable a cat or dog owner would be heartbroken.

Yeah. But say it was your mum on the phone and then come back a day later and look like a proper nutter.

Obviously, if as in the example above, the pet doubles up as your sexual partner, then I feel a day off is merited. Were you and your pet intimate? I think if you let your boss know how much you loved your pet, he would probably see fit to allowing you time off to grieve, and possibly have another quick session before it gets cold.
Life is good.

If I was the boss you would get no pay and then a point on whatever sickness/absence system was in place.
Parent or sibling is the only acceptable excuse normally IMO.

A few years ago a cat died in Montrose which resulted in it's owner phoning in sick her daughter phoning in sick and the daughters boyfriend phoning in sick. They all worked at Tesco's and all were honest about the reason, although I think the boyfriend took the day off in a support role.

If my dog died I'd probably kill myself and thousands of others.
