Dave Mackay made himself unpopular when he was with LIvi, but I don't think there was any underlying problem between him and Dundee FC. He made some daft comments expressing surprise at the unpopularity of the Marrs among Dundee fans. He should just have kept out of it. He also rather milked a fluky goal at Dens by running over to the Dundee supporters to celebrate. Unwise. He got his come-uppance in the next game at Dens when he slammed the ball into his own goal in front of the home fans. Posted Image

Burley may have been pissed off with us, but the feeling was mutual. His red card in his debut at Dens, and only appearance there, was an act of spectacular, thuggish stupidity. He halved Derek Riordan on the half way line, for no good reason. It was the sort of foul I remember from schooldays from pissed off players who just wanted sent off and the chance to get into the plunge bath while the water was still clean and hot.

Perhaps you're right rumple seen to remember his saying we have the worst fans ever or similar before though? As for that tackle from Burley, I was just saying the other day how that's the worst sending off offence I can remember seeing at Dens, horrendous.

Was that not John Robertson, during his brief loan spell with us when he was constantly booed on the pitch.

I think it was Robbo. Strange because I've always quite liked him.

That was the season we had Jimmy Nicholl, Alex Smith and Terry Butcher on our coaching staff and a playing budget to match.

I was told that Butcher wasn't on a wage. He was at the Rovers to keep himself involved in the game at the time.

I don't think that Dalziel has a grudge against the club or fans. Think it's just a grudge against two of the directors that are at the club.
Someone tweeted him saying that he should come to a Rovers match but he simply said, "No thank you" and wished the boy and the club all the very best.
Top man. I'd love to see Dazza get the reception that his legend deserves when introduced at half time one day.

Scott Bannerman claims Morton have the "worst fans he's ever played for" and used to send me messages on Bebo telling me to watch myself cos he was going to do me in.

I seem to remember when he signed for St.Johnstone, John Lambie said the best thing that could happen is he gets an injury.
If you've got to be told by someone then it's got to be me

Dodds has always seemed rather bitter towards up, but that may have just been his smug pus when talking about us. Not an ex-player, but I think the professional that hated Dundee more than anyone else, has to be Alan Main.

Daz is a legend but was utterly pish as a manager, even taking into account the mess he inherited from A*elka. The "rub of the green" never came, which indicates that the initial plan put in place by the manager was flawed in the first place. He deserved to go and should have no complaints with the fact that he got his jotters.

As for Andy Walker, my only Rovers memory of him (apart from his face tripping him after the Coca-Cola Cup final!) was scoring a dubious 2nd-minute penalty winner at Brockville - awarded by Kirkcaldy's very own John Rowbotham. The rest of his spell has eluded my memory bank. Obviously not missing much.
The big house must close - that's the bottom line.

Dalziel played in the Ronnie Coyle match did he not? I didn't make it but I'm pretty certain I remember reading about him attending. Shows he's not totally fallen out with the club at large, even if refusing to play would've been a very petty thing to do in the circumstances.

It was indeed Robbo. To be fair, he was absolute shite when he was us, which was rather annoying because he scored against us very regularly for Hearts.

I think the Main thing goes way back to the late 80s when he gave the South Enclosure the middle finger after a goal and was reported to the Police for it. FWIW I hate to see fans do that, he'd been getting dog's abuse the whole game.

My favourite Main moment though came at McDiarmid park. We were 2-1 down very late on and he dropped a simple cross with about a minute left from which we scraped a 2-2 draw. Even more insultingly, due to a kit f**k-up, we were playing in Saint's yellow away shirts. Main was fuming having spent most of the second half trying to wind up the fans behind the goal. He left the pitch at full time to total derision and sarcastic chants of "Scotland's Number 1".

On topic again, the only examples i can really remember recently are the aforementioned Burley who i think played a couple of games. One was the red card above and the other was a totally anonymous performance devoid of any effort whatsoever in a 1-1 draw at Tannadice.

Going further back, Alan Lawrence was sold to Airdrie around 1989 and absolutely revelled in scoring against us.

A turd of such epic proportions it has to be released in three installments. The first can stand on its own as a complete adventure. The second links to the first, but has a dark, inconclusive feel generating an air of foreboding and leaving itself wide open for an unknown ending. The final chapter has drama, excitement and moments where you think all is lost. A grand battle is waged where good overcomes evil and peace is restored in your gut.

Here is some background on his first departure - http://partickthistl...e+%281993-95%29

But I can't think of many ex Thistle players to bad mouth us in the Press, despite the treatment the fans at Firhill can dish out.

Not ex-players, but I wonder if Gordon Smith has ever forgiven us for letting his son go after an unsuccessful trial period. He slated us at every opportunity in the Sportscene studio after that. Chick Young embarrassed himself on a regular basis with his foaming at the mouth rants about Firhill being a "nest of vipers" after we sacked his hopelessly inept f**k buddy Gerry Collins.

Scott Mclaughlin is a reptile, and it will be most pleasing to see him relegated yet again. I think he's going for the current record set by Jim Duffy in management.

Bump.

McLaughlin has now had the bitter experience of relegation for Livingston, Airdrie United, Ayr and Queen of the South. Given his breakdown regarding the big bad Morton fans, he's probably still sobbing his eyes out after Saturday. Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.

Glorious.

You will never hear VT admit that he was actually wrong on that one.

McLaughlan's only season with us was, of course, a promotion season - whereafter he was (correctly) punted.
