Scottish Universities' Knock-Out Cup Final for the Queen's Park Shield

Glasgow University 0 - 5 Stirling University

Stirling flew the flag this evening for the EoSL. After quite a lot of rain in the past 36 hours, the pitch at Falkirk Stadium was heavy and cut up readily. Heavy rain showers and a stiff wind also had to be dealt with. However, due to some good refereeing from John McKendrick and sensible behaviour by all players, the game went ahead and it was a final fitting the fine trophy. Great credit goes to all concerned - all players tried to play football and there was lots of good skill on show.

Unfortunately, one of the Stirling strikers was carried off and I hope he is OK.

Stirling dominated the game, playing some really nice stuff. They were 3 up at half-time and added 2 after the interval. The boy Sludden scored a lovely hat trick and his second goal was especially good. For their part, Glasgow made a game of it and played some good stuff but they gave the ball away too easily - not a good thing against Stirling. In contrast, Stirling gave almost nothing away and gave Glasgow little room to manoeuvre.

The Shield returns to Stirling. Next Wednesday they play for the British Knock-Out Cup in London against Bath University. Bath would be a big scalp for Stirling (and the EoSL).

Heard they lost a goal after 15 mins, and then dominated the rest of the first half. During this time they hit the bar , and the post. No more news on the second half except to cinfirm the result. C`mon the Uni
