Interseting article from STV here showing the transfer figures paid in and out of each club for the past 5 seasons with Rangers making a massive loss while Hearts made equally large profits.

Thank you, read it myself earlier. Rangers down £13 million in a recession?! No wonder they're fucked!

And where did their £13m of disposable income come from? We'll find out in a few weeks when the tribunal reaches its verdict...

Suprised to see that Celtic have received more than they have spend Posted Image. Also wonder why Hibernian didn't spend more than they did over the last few years.

Who gives a monkeys who boness sign. They quite simply will not pose any threat to linlithgow this season. We have taken a squad who finished three points adrift and improved it all round. Boness have taken a league winning side and ripped it apart on the back of one mans whims. Top 5 at best for boness this year

BU's unbeaten vs the Rose. 2011/12

Did they not build a new stand and training ground?

These figures presumably won't account for agent fees, signing-on fees and of course wages... combined wagebills for those seasons would be really interesting as well.

Yep, they now have a brilliant stadium that lies over half empty every fortnight :(

Just looking at the figures for St Johnstone now.

Fees spent

2006/07 - £44,000 - Most or all of this would be on Willie McLaren. Possibly paid Morton a small fee for Derek Lilley, or loan fees for the likes of Lawson or Morais.
2008/09 - £28,000 - Initial fee paid to Falkirk for Liam Craig.
2009/10 - £153,120 - Two-thirds of that pretty much would be on Murray Davidson (Dave Mackay was essentially free IIRC) and Danny Grainger. Falkirk were due a bonus on Craig because we won promotion too. The rest I'm not so sure about. Loan fees?

Fees received
2006/07 - £25,000 - Fee from Swansea City for Jason Scotland, who was in the last few months of his contract.
2007/08 - £150,000 - Compensation payment from Burnley for Owen Coyle.
2010/11 - £10,560 - Looking at other clubs, I'd assume this is a loan fee from Dunfermline for Kevin Rutkiewicz.

Interesting that it appears we didn't get anything from Burnley when they won promotion. Was sure there was something reported at the time.
Fascists against Beatson.

That's feckin unbelievable. Even with the new stand and training ground we're earning far more than we're spending.

that's a not bad profit with regards to transfers, thing is thoug is it swallowed up by any other costs and if not where's it gone?

I think most clubs make a fairly significant operating loss after each home game. Aberdeen said earlier this season that they were losing about 60k for every home game and that they would need 11,000 through the gates just to break even.

How much did we pay for Jon daly? Going by that a fair wedge, but most of our fees were Eddie Thompson splurging his cash on well meant transfers that worked in championship manager. c***s like lee miller, Paul Ritchie and David proctor(!) have cost us a fortune

Money should have been spent replacing the guys who were sold with players of a reasonable quality. The problem Hibs have now is there is no-one left to sell for big bucks and with debts increasing Petrie wont splash out money they don't have, hence the recent loan signings.Hibs have to be applauded for building the training ground and new stand but the standard of football has been poor, the crowds have dropped, there are less ST holders so the club are losing out at the gate.
Those are my principles, and if you dont like them..........well, i have others.

The most interesting figure there is that the wreckless big spending Romanov has made £11m profit (2nd biggest).

In fairness, most of the criticism of Romanov's spending has been in relation to wages, not transfer fees.

120% wages to turnover ratio does not lie.

Which highlights a more general point

Transfer fees are now relatively small compared to wage bills.

Motherwells total transfer revenue over 5 years is roughly the same as their wage bill for one season

The cost of talent is now mostly paid to the player as opposed to his previous club

Henrik Larson is generally cited as having been a great bargain with Wim Jansen paying £650,000 but the total cost of paying his wages for 7 years will have been many times that fee especially if Celtic were paying tax properly. He was probably still worth it though.

True. Clubs should now be striving to get value for money in the form of wages as it's here that the vast majority of expenditure is. Celtic have made a net profit in transfers in the last 5 years. Their superiourity over the diddy clubs comes in wages, in the same time period they have spent roughly £182 million on player wages.

Not saying you shouldn't spend the money, just that you should get value for it.

With Hearts as an example (it was Romanov's spending which was brought up). I'm sure nobody would argue about the wages spent on Skacel over his 2 periods. Similar wages paid to Nade, Kingston and the like were certainly less worthwhile.
