Astonishing climax to Saints-Catalan

....for those who haven't seen it. Spine-tingling stuff. Really glad I recorded this game as I'll be replaying it a few times I think. Raguin's kick in that final passage. Posted Image Loving Millard's step to avoid Lomax who tackled like a demon late on. Dureau's touch pass! Bosc turning into the tackle to tie up forwards. *polls favourite moment*

Brilliant, brilliant stuff. Just an iconic sporting moment.

Some big games this weekend

Probably game of the round is at the DW between Wigan and Catalans now the french have a good record against the cherry and whites but i think Wigan will win

Also interesting local derby tonight Castleford and Leeds i can only see a big win for Leeds

And back to Sunday Saints face a real tough test against a Huddersfield side who have been playing well i hope i am wrong but i think Giants will win it.

Just amazing how they kept it alive! And the pressure on Dureau to kick the goal from the sideline as well, superb!

Good end to the game there. Dureau should take alot of credit for it though, his quick thinking in the lead-up to the try and obviously his conversion at the end. The 2nd rower did well for them under the high ball for a 2nd rower! Didn't know that the SL finished games as draws because we go into golden point extra-time when it finishes a draw down here.

Does it? Didn't know that. That sucks IMHO. I'd like to see golden point changed to golden try personally. The scramble for a drop goal is great at the end of regulation but can be farcical in ET. Also there's the issue of who gets the ball first - by and large an advantage? And conceding a penalty inside your 40 is pretty much game over, which I don't like. Play til the first try. Let's have proper rugby.

Draws in regular season play are fine though. Why do the Aussies not value them?

Interesting that NRL have done away with the Macintyre Eight and gone with the SL play-off system (well, we nicked it from AFL tbf) but without Clubcall. Good move, never liked the Macintyre system. Too fussy.

I like having the golden point as teams generally in ET just sure up their defense that much that there is hardly ever an tries in extra time of play so there is no point whereas the golden point provides a bit of drama and anything can happen out of it. Its probably best to take the kick first in it and peg the opposition back as much as possible in the first set of 6 to gain some more metres for your own set I reckon.

I wouldn't say we dont value draws especially after the AFL grand final in 2010 finished in a draw and a replay had to happen the following weekend. I think its just been brought in to provide some extra drama if there is a draw thats all. I agree that the Macintyre system was flawed and its good we have the new system in (which was stolen by the AFL by the ARL years ago). In fact if we had the new system in place last season then the NZ Warriors would never have made the grand final and would have been eliminated in the first weekend of the finals.

Disagree with that bit fella. They've played 80 minutes of rugby league! Most of them can barely stand! I'd argue that you don't see tries because they don't toss the ball wide, everything's up the middle building for a drop. Too risky to chuck it about.

Mind you, you're basing this on NRL i suppose. We don't really defend as much here. Loving the first round of NRL scores. Hardly anyone over 20 was there? Proper 80s RL scoring, none of our 36 all bollocks!

I agree there is also the risk of chucking the ball about and moving it cross field and losing it when in ET which leads to playing up the middle and less opportunities of getting a try in some regards but gone are the days of league players burnt out after 80 minutes. Im not sure about the SL since I haven't watched a SL match in a few years but down here the players are trained and conditioned to put in extra and last, especially when you have blokes in the forward pack like Paul Gallen who have previously played a full 80 minutes in the front row before! Stuff that was unheard of years ago, since now you rarely see any 'podgey' guys running about apart from maybe George Rose which is also a reason why he is such a cult figure I guess up in Manly. I will put a post in the other league thread mate about the weekend NRL, as I dont want to clog up this SL thread with NRL results.

Yeah good 1st half. Defences on top early until McGuire made the breakthrough with a superb dummy. Warrington back in it now though.

Edit: terrific game, Warrington lose their unbeaten run. Rob Burrow fantastic again.

Leeds showed why they were champions tonight very good all-round performance and as you say Rob Burrow he is such a wee pest.

And the final score from the other game tonight St Helens 10-22 Hull

Royce Simmons will be under mounting pressure.

Pretty mad situation with the Bulls. Incensed by the chairman's language personally. "Supporter's pledge" indeed! Doesn't even sound like he's looking to step down??!! Basically they need a new owner. Would be great if the RFL could take them over NBA/NHL style while they look for one but doubt their coffers stretch that far.

Suspect there's a few twists and turns here yet though. You'd think there would be a few wealthy-ish folk who would see the merit in investing in a hugely successful club in a sport growing in popularity with well over 10k regular fans.

One particularly interested onlooker must be the Halifax chairman. This can only add fuel to his post-licence denial fire. Might a Bradford/Halifax merger even be a viable proposition?

I heard them two ninnys Keys and Gray on the radio the other morning getting in a tizz about some boring England game at Wembley this weekend being the highest ever attendence at a Rugby game.

A couple of further notes regarding this Bulls mess.

Bradford should have moved into Valley Parade when they had the chance a few years ago, now both clubs are in the doo doo. There's even talk of Bradford City moving to Odsal now because they can't afford the rent payments on VP...a fine mess.

The Bulls sold the lease of The Odsal to the RFL, which means the RFL may have outmanoeuvred RBS at least in so far as keeping hold of the ground is concerned. There was a statement from them at the time saying how the deal "Secures the future of rugby league at Odsal" which does now look a little mysterious in the current context and suggests they maybe knew all wasn't well with the Bulls' finances.

Must say I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. No-one seemed to react quite so emotionally when Wakey hit the same skids last year. We all just sat around and waited for them to lose their SL licence, basically. I hope the Bulls get out of this mess but if not, Halifax (as next best licence applicant last time around) should inherit their squad (like when Hull FC swallowed up Gateshead), dump Bradford into Championship 1 and elevate someone from C1 to the Championship. Let Bradford rebuild and submit a licence application next time around. Enough is enough with teams entering administration.
They're asking fans to pledge £100! £100! In a recession.

I think the Widnes chairman has donated money to Bradford and one of their ex - chairman is launching a take - over bid?
Anyway Easter weekend is always one of my favourite weekends for rugby league action. Every derby in the one weekend and hopefully we'll be seeing a cracker or two this year.
Especially looking forward to Saints - Wigan tomorrow. Come on you Saints!!

Liking Salford's new ground a lot. Got to be the future of Super League stadia, that kind of place. 12K-ish capacity (can be extended to 20 easily enough, I believe) with great facilities. Shame there isn't usually more there but with 10K it'd be rocking.

The Lancastrian sides are leaving the Yorkshire lot behind on the stadia front, aren't they? A 5-1 landslide. Only Hull FC have a modern facility east of the Pennines. Pull your fingers out, Yorkshire sides.

Brilliant picture, where & when? I`m guessing Odsal in Bradford?

Surprising how easy Leeds have dealt with Catalan tonight. Was expecting a much closer scoreline.

Challenge Cup Final replay in 1954, and yeah at the Odsal. 102,000+!
