Ok ok your right , as i said didn't want to go down the whole summer football thing again , i was just giving my opinion rightly or wrongly where i thought the more football being played in the better month's weather wise would obviously help them, let's leave it at that thanks.

Away from summer fecking footballPosted Image , Colin Lindsay went on to manage the burgh didn't he ?

Looking at it Johnstone Burgh were particpating in the very first super premier league where they finished a respectable 5th season 2002-2003, the following season 2003-2004 they finished 9th strangley enough not winning a home game all season !Season 2004-2005 they again survived in the super premier finsihing 10th.

2005-2006 was the season they got relegated along with larkhall between then and now they have been relegated to the central second division where they have spent how many season's now ?

I am amazed they did not win a home game during the 2003-04 because that year the Buffs won the super league they gave us one of our harderst tests on the road and it took a wonder goal during that game from Jacktonite) (Fabi to beat them 3-2

I really hope they get their problems sorted out

They used to have a website RRG but sadly it stopped running a couple of years ago.

It just shows the interest in them really has waned.

Yeah it's sad , really sad , and burgh are not the only club this has happened to , but all is not lost . All it takes is a few extra people to take an interest in them and it can all grow again from there.

Side was:

Alan Donohue
Zander Ryan
Grant Clark
Lee Martin
Derek Heaton
Stuart Hendren
Johnny Millar
Colin Lindsay
Alan Frater
Davie Brolly
John McLay

would john mclay ( arthurlie ) , zander ryan ( irvine meadow ) be the only two player from that starting line up who are still playing ? only other names for me that ring a bell are derek heaton , johnny millar ( ex beith boss ? ) colin lindsay and lee martin

RRG the burgh where in the central first division last season, relegated along with blantyre, think they were promoted from the central second division in season 09/10 along with shettleston and greenock and went straight back down

The ground is built on old mineworks as far as I know. I don't know if the drainage issues are anything to do with that, but there are problems for sure.

It's a real shame as there are some great guys involved at the Burgh.

If it was built on old mineworks, wouldn't that make drainage less of a problem, not more?

The abandoned mineworks don't affect Keanie Park, but do affect part of the nearby Johnstone Castle housing estate and the residents of nearby Windsor Crescent private housing estate (there was a stink in the newspapers about a decade or more back because it meant the locals were being debarred from getting housing insurance over it).

It's one of the many stories that does the rounds about Keanie Park because it was land given away for free, and thus everyone suspected James Keanie's motives (this is Renfrewshire after all), as the two obvious spots at that time for a new football club would have been Thomas Shanks Park or the old field where Newfield Park was by then buried under. The real catch in the deal was the Burgh Bar Social Club - Keanie got all the money it made and the club never saw a penny except for the occasional "generous donation", all kept rather quiet by the bunnit wringers until it was finally knocked down in the 1990s and the truth came out.

Yes, and some Whitburn fans didn't...

Remember their fans singing "You're all just sheep shagging b*****ds!" throughout the match at the Whitburn supporters - all beautifully picked up live on STV. Great advert for the Junior game that year. Thank God they lost and never got back in the final again.

They've have a web board that has been in existence for some time

If Geordie's business picks up and he starts having money to throw around like confetti again, you can be sure all the "Ultras" will be back - Ultra-Fickles. I have my doubts as to whether Burgh will survive Geordie Walker's passing unless new people come into them, but nobody wants to join so long as all of the current people are involved - Catch-22. They need a clearout and an injection of new people with cash and ideas aplenty, but who the hell is going to do that in the current economic climate when there's plenty of other Junior clubs out there (and amateurs) with more potential?

Dave Brolly and Alan Donohoe were playing the last time I saw Burgh a couple of seasons ago now.

I can remember that game against the Buffs. Lovely warm night midweek game. Ian Cashmore scored a screamer IIRC and big Donny threw one in his own net almost. Massive crowd through from Kilwinning that night.

I'm only relaying what I heard when it came to issues over developing the site beyond its current use.

It was also a former quarry.

The quarry that was there was abandoned way back in the 1860s/1870s and became replanted/ overgrown with trees and became an effective part of the Johnstone Castle mansion estates (the east side of which was once used by the military). The coalmine was further south of the current Keanie Park at the place the house known as The Loaning now stands, with the shafts heading southwards into where Windsor Crescent etc.

There still is a quarry to the southwest of the Johnstone Castle site - next to the local golf course!
