I was thinking about how little time I spend on individual games nowadays and comparing it to when I was a kid (with little money) and spent months and months on a single game.

What are your favourite games of years gone by?

Off the top of my head

Spectrum

Skool Dayz
Manic Miner
Under Wurlde
Dizzy

Amiga
Super Cars
Treasure Island Dizzy
Sensible Soccer
Kick Off 2

NES

Super Mario Brothers (2 and 3 also)
Metroid

SNES

Zelda - A Link to the Past
Super Mario World
Super Soccer

Master System
Wonder Boy 3 - The Dragons Trap

Mega Drive
Altered Beast.

Im sure theres loads more, but these are the ones that sprung to mind first. :)

Alex Kid, or Alex the Kid on the Master System(it was our default game) was the fucking shit. You couldn't save it though, so you had to just play through it which was both cool and frustrating. I was never any good but my sister was fucking amazing(she's 3 years older so would've been at a better age when we had it). She got to a ridiculous length. Maybe it was cause I was young, but I used to love just watching her play it!

Old school for me would also be playstation and n64. Can't beat a bit of Crash Team Racing or Mario Kart on those. Final Fantasy 8 is my favourite ever game and I'd throw in Resident Evil 2 in there as well.

And that was not a good start, losing the Doctor at this stage of the game is pretty catastrophic, the Mafia will be creaming themselves after that kill. Particularly when the Doctor is as skilful a player as Forehead is.

Dizzy

Dizzy was great, vague memory of it though. I remember a game called Ski or Die on the spectrum that I used to play all the time, was f*cking immense.

I used to love Alex the kid on Master system, do you all remember the Michael Jackson game? He boomeranged his hat and had different coloured suits.

I was always a sucker for Theme Park/Hospital.

Amiga 1200 - Not technically a game but hours of fun were to be had with The Jolly Rodgers Cookbook.

Didn't we have a retro thread on this from a couple years ago? I only remember it because I basically posted once a year to say that I'd completed Dune on the Amiga (truly one of the best games ever made) again. I want to play Dune now.

World Cup 90? Did it have super powered overhead kicks that battered the goalkeeper when he got in the way and dodgy pitches with stones or ice on them?

Yes yes that's the one! It was part of a 3 game cartridge if I mind right too, brilliant fun!

Fifa 98 I re-purchased a few weeks ago. Indoor 5 aside gold and a wee tournament in the flat this weekend!

Dizzy was the first game I bought for my Spectrum 128k +2. Brilliant. TRUE STORY

Sensibsle Soccer (the whole series) was the premier football game of its time. I cant think of a more playable, fun and simple football game.

Civilizations (Sid Meier) - the original god game? - spent hours trying to take over the world.
We hate Airdrie more than you

I had My computer when growing up, i have only ever met one other person to own this system.
The games were pretty hard to come by, but i got S.O. on magnetic tape (either that or type the games out).
A couple of years later Amstrad an Commodore came onto the market, all my mates had one or the other. (I didn't)
Then came the Sega and nintendo, personly i prefered the Sega, with Sonic being the bees.
After that my next gaming experience was probably the Playstation.( i still have one in a cupboard)
The Playstation had so many titles, heres but a few favourites:- Tomb raider, Gran turismo, Medal of honor Allied assualt (which im playing on the PC just now) and Civilization.
Anything after the first Playstation aint old skool.
