I didn't think that the game at the Recs was one sided. We came in at 2-2 but Montrose could quite easily have been ahead, they gave us a really tough time on the break. Really open game and it was still in the balance till Cawley got the fourth goal quite near the end. We were poor in the game at Links Park, one of the weakest Alloa performances I've seen this season. Quite lucky to get away with a point in the end.
Montrose seem to be very up and down so we will see what kind of performance they bring on Saturday. We need to be winning the home games, and to maintain the good run, but on the evidence of the previous games against Montrose it won't be easy.
Hopefully Hartley can crack open the war chest again before the weekend and add a few more big money signings.

Probably should have said the second half was quite one sided. But yes we could have been down at the break. I remember when we scored the penalty thinking 'i wonder how many today'
A repeat of Saturday's performance would go down a treat

Yeah, fair point. I thought the same thing when we scored the penalty but between Montrose being excellent on the counter that day and our defence being a bit shit it didn't quite work out that way. Given the recent imperious form of the Kaiser I'm sure we can expect better from the backline this weekend

Yes haha! I don't expect a clean sheet somehow, and i am entrigued to see who plays LB, but apart from that we should be okay...

Neither did I. My recollections from that game was Montrose 'scoring' a third right on half-time and a Gable Endie down the far end doing aeroplane celebrations before realising it had been somewhat dubiously ruled out for offside. A definite let-off for us that day and perhaps was our catalyst for a fine second half performance, whereas had the goal stood we may have easily collapsed.
Taking nothing for granted this Saturday and would bite your hand off for a scrappy 1-0 victory.

I fancy the former, and with the team playing some good stuff and the defence looking tight at last (will McHattie's departure unbalance the back line?) I again think we should have another decent open game and who ever scores more goals than the other team will win.

Whether that will bring us any points is another matter though.

I agree with Ivo. Alloa's two previous results against The Mo were probably their poorest games of the season as the league table suggests they usually play better. Mo are well capable of getting something from the game so long as they turn up with the right attitude and no nonsense defending.

Looks like you brought Ross McKinnon is as an replacement on the left back.. I can see he has played 6 matches for Dumbarton as a starter this season - so interesting to see if this will weaken or strenght Alloa.
McHattie has been playing decent so far as left back, or?
About the match - I really think Alloa will win as well - just the better team at home here... only worry can be themself - if they take it too easily.. if you do that, you wont win matches in this tight league.

McHattie had been playing very well especially in the last two games. Hopefully McKinnon can do as good a job as him as it seems our defence has tightened up now, much of that down to the good form of Ryan Harding

2nd half Montrose got back into it and made it tough for us to break them down and played pretty well but didn't manage to clear the ball on 87 minutes which led to a great finish from McKinnon then Alloa played a great ball to May who used his pace to get past the Mo defender and when 1 on 1 with the keeper slotted it in as cool as you like.
Still think the referee's need to give out more protection though numerous times May and Cawley were taken out by the Montrose numbers 4 5 and 8 and on 1 ocassion in the 1st half the number 5 took May out off the ball and the ref never even batted an eyelid.

I thought we missed Ryan McCord. We are a bit one paced in midfield without his drive and ability to take on an opponent. We lacked width again at times, but a lot of credit for that goes to Montrose who cut that space down, stopping Michael Doyle in particular from bombing down the right.
May and Cawley were closely watched. At time we were over elaborate.
Two very good goals. 8 in 7 for May now.
The unbeaten run goes to twelve.
Peterhead will be a real test on Tuesday as they appear to be running into form.
Good day all round with the Annan and QP results.

I have some questions:
What's with that harness thing that some of the players were strapping themselves into in the warm-up? Any idea what the thinking is? Anyone know of it being done anywhere else?
I may have misheard but were there a handful of fans singing "he used to be gay, but now he's okay" in part of their song to Hartley? Not very impressed, if those were the words. (Were they the same group of lads that the police escorted out sometime before the end of the match - what happened there?)
Lastly, any news on the young lad who needed medical attention in the home end at the start of the second half there? I take it he's okay.

Incidentally I agree a couple of Mo players got away without bookings but you have to look at the opposite as well. A couple of Mo players were also brought down badly. To be honest I've never been too impressed by ref Des Roache but I thought overall today he did Ok and was even handed. Previously I've felt he was too card happy which is all too common in Div 3 where some of them just don't try to have a rapport with players.

From their post in the Alloa fans forum it would seem it was the young lads called the Alloa Ultras who were escorted from the ground...
"we won't be back at the Recs this season. thrown out again for swearing by the police. Mr Robert Wilson told us we're banned from every ground in Scotland. Season tickets invalid at the Recs, Parkhead, Ibrox, Tyncastle, Easter Road and Pittodrie. Our boys give up going to watch teams that we were brought up to support to watch our local club. Some might see it as money wasted, we see it as being a serious group of supporters. Robert Wilson is applying for banning orders against us. We will turn up to the game on Tuesday night against Peterhead, chancing our luck. But once again, its atmopsphere and money lost by the club.

Good riddance i say, I know we are trying to get younger fans along to the games and i back that and yes these boys have been treated harshly in the past and today and Robert Wilson can be a hot head at times but that's every home game since these "Ultras" have been present there has been a talking point involving them.

Darren Young has been using it at half-time all season, I assume to try and prevent muscles etc from tightening up? Seems to be working for him at least as he was quoted the other day praising the Alloa physio and saying he has already played more games this season than in the last three combined.
Regarding the song I heard the 'Ultras' signing it a few weeks ago. As dunkin says it seems they have now been banned from the Recs. Would like to think something can be sorted out there because it's a shame to turn away youngsters who are following their local team and creating an atmosphere. Clearly they need to behave - but if they can then hopefully they will be allowed back.

Bit ironic as for me Harding was the weak link in the Alloa team for much of the first half of the season. Credit to the Kaiser though, he has been impressive over the past few weeks. I certainly cannot agree that he is an "outstanding" player who elevates the team as a whole to a higher level, but on recent form he is well worth his place in the starting line up. I must admit I didn't think I would be saying that a few weeks ago but long may it continue.
Can't agree with your overall point either, I don't believe we are a workmanlike team relying on 1 or 2 individuals for flair (not that that should be taken as a criticism of any team). May is clearly a class above but even before his arrival the likes of Cawley and Ryan McCord were providing that bit of class. Holmes and Masterton are creative players also, as is McCord the younger and I would hope he can get over his injuries and get a run in the team. At times this season I think we perhaps had a bit too much flair and not enough of the workmanlike, but that hasn't been the case in recent weeks.
Good day for us in the end with Annan drawing and QP losing. We must aim to follow it up with another 3 points on Tuesday night.
