Any rumuors, speculation or suggestions for Alloa in the Janurary 2012 window post them here. Feel free to post who you think Alloa could or should sign.

I'll start of with a big rumour I heard from a mate who works with the under 19s: Davie Weir. Not as ludicrous as you might think (after all who expected Hartley's arrival?) but certainly ambitious. The defender has just been released from Rangers and is open to a move down the leagues in order to continue playing. Our back four has been inconsisent at times and could do with some experience, especially with Fraser Forrest retiring. They certainly don't come more experienced than Weir as Hartley I'm sure knows having worked with him in the scotland set up. Weir also did some coaching while at rangers and there is talks of him getting a job at everton. He could be signed as a player/coach and would be able to work with some of the young defenders. Weir has already said he would take a wage cut to continue playing. He was on 10k a week at rangers so I'm sure Mr Mulraney can make him an attractive offer.

So to recap, one of the best scottish defenders in recent times on a free transfer on a cutprice contract, offering experience and leadership to our backfour and tactical knowledge to our backroom staff. I think it's possible but mabye thats just wishful thinking. THIS IS ONLY A RUMOUR

Other than that I think the other most pressing concern is the vacancy left by McHattie at left back as his loan has ended. Docherty can play there but was pretty rubbish and is doing so much better at left mid.

One thing the alloa midfield is lacking is pace. We haven't been to bothered by it because Cawley and May can create their own chances and will take anything but if one is injured then the slower strikers such as One and Winters are going to need that speed to come from midfield and getting more crosses in especially for One. Saw a few players that would fit the bill on trial here at the start of the season. Hopefully some are still available.

Finally, the only other minor complanint with Alloa this season has been a few mistakes form our young goalkeepers. Perhaps a More experienced goalkeeper who doesnt have to be playing regularly but could deputise and pass on some of his knowledge to Bain and McDowall.

If you actually read all that, well done and thanks :P

They'd be as well signing Eric Contona, bringing him out of retirement. as David Weir in my opinion... :-)

Peterheed to spend big again and bring in Fernando Torres to create the most overpaid useless front two in the universe.

Not as much as King King Bundy appears to believe.

If orginal poster had said bring back Steve "Spider" Ramsay, now that would have been a different matter.

Everything the OP says or believes is what is going wrong with the Third Division. Buy a manager with 'contacts', throw a load of money at him and get promotion without effort. It's a dangerous precedent and ruins competition for teams who want to go up properly.

Alloa reckon they have it in the bag already, I suppose it is theirs to throw away now.

We'd be better off with Tom Weir. Or Molly.

Buying the league? Yes please. I'll have mine with cream on top. Mmmmm.

I realise this is probably a fishing trip but will answer some of the points anyway. Alloa didn't "buy" Hartley, we were without a manager following the dismissal of Alan Maitland and there was a pretty negative atmosphere surrounding the club. The chairman was keen to go down the route of a young manager and if the guy had a good reputation all the better. Hartley had just left Aberdeen and wanted to try management. He was impressed by the set up at Alloa and no doubt that was crucial in persuading him to take the job, he wouldn't have come to us had the facilities been as poor as they were a few years ago.

He has a good budget without doubt but I think certain posters are making too much of that. Had the budget been as impressive as King Kong Bundy suggests we probably would not have signed players in the summer from Nairn County, Stirling University and Bo'ness United. The chairman has always said that Alloa must live within their means and his investment in the club has always focussed on the infrastructure to make us self sustaining, rather than throwing cash at the playing side like Gretna. Otherwise he could have handed Maitland a pile of cash last January to make sure we avoided relegation from Division 2.

Far from being an example of everything that is wrong with the Third Division, I would argue that Alloa are actually an example of the way forward for lower league clubs. The club is now firmly rooted in the community and the Recs is becoming a real hub for local sport. There is a similar situation at Stenny.

The Davie Weir idea from the OP is bonkers. And nobody at the Recs reckons the league is won already, however much some QP posters want to encourage that idea :D .

And I didn't even mention QP and their shamateurism once ;) .

I would like to point out here that I'm only relaying a rumour thats being going about. I know it's not realistic i was merely saying in my opinion why it would be a good deal.
As for those of you who are saying we are buying a league I think you should calm down. For a start its the scottish 3rd division not the fucking SPL and Hartley had to buy a whole team in the first place, he couldnt avoid buying a team. Are you seriously saying that someone who has to get a whole new team and has a large wage budget available isnt is going to get good players?

Seems to have had a few left backs trialing in bounce games recently as well as a few other positions. Anyone with any names to these players?

It won't, Weir himself has said he wants to play in the lower leagues down south.
