Read something the other day mentioning an Aberdeen v Celtic cup game in Dundee. How often did this happen in the past, that one of the OF played cup games in a Neutral venues outside Glasgow and when was the last time a cup SF involving one of the old firm was held outside Glasgow?

Think it was a second replay in the Scottish Cup in 1986-87 when there was an outbreak of common sense at Park Gardens. Can't think off the top of my head of another example.
Which begs the question, if a second replay merits a proper neutral venue then why not a Semi Final? OF fans will make noises about the lack of venues with the required capacity of course. The SFA seem to have some kind of fixation with Hampden at the moment, regardless of the expected demand for tickets...
The score remains 4-1 and counting...

Because they (through their subsidary Hampden Park Ltd.) run it and keep all the cash from hospitality, pie stalls and the like, as well as saving the cost of renting another ground.

Hibs last played the old firm outwith Glasgow in the Summer Cup semi Final in 1945. Hibs beat Celtic. The only other occasion was back in 1928 when we played Rangers at Tynecastle in the Scottish Cup semi final.

I don't recall that at all. What round was it in? Was it at Dens?

You live and learn.

Were second replays always played at neutral venues?
I thought they tended to toss a coin to give one of the sides home advantage. I'm probably wrong though.

It was for the sides to agree between themselves; if they couldn't agree, then it went to a toss-of-a-coin... I think? You'd have thought it having to be a neutral venue would be more sensible but that isn't how it worked I believe, there was that inherent flexibility.

Between WWII and their abolition for 1989-90, 2nd (or 3rd) replays before the SFs were as follows. Those in red weren't at neutral venues.

Unsurprisingly the ties which tended not to go to neutral venues were those involving 1 or 2 big clubs (presumably due to the potential gate factors); and small sides (presumably due to saving ground rental), perhaps provided big distances weren't involved.

Also a wee opportunity to note here the 2 longest ties in Scottish Cup history (depending on whether or not you count the Scottish Qualifying Cup)... which appear almost unbelievable by modern standards, in terms of both duration and scheduling.

1908-09 Scottish Cup, First Round

1... Sat 23rd Jan... Broxburn Athletic 1-1 Beith
2... Sat 30th Jan... Beith 0-0 Broxburn Athletic
3... Wed 3rd Feb... Beith 1-1 Broxburn Athletic [aet] (at Ibrox)
4... Thu 4th Feb... Beith 1-1 Broxburn Athletic [aet] (at Ibrox)
5... Fri 5th Feb... Beith 4-2 Broxburn Athletic (at Love Street)

Having played 3 midweek afternoons straight totalling 330mins - the tie itself having totalled 510mins - poor Beith had to play come back to Love Street the next day (Sat 6th Feb) to face St Mirren... and lost 3-0.

1901-02 Scottish Qualifying Cup, First Round

1.... Albion Rovers 0-0 Wishaw United
2.... Albion Rovers 1-1 Wishaw United (at Albion due to dispute)
3... Wishaw United 2-2 Albion Rovers
4... Wishaw United 2-2 Albion Rovers [aet] (at Broomfield)
5... Wishaw United 1-1 Albion Rovers [aet] (at Fir Park)
6... Wishaw United 2-1 Albion Rovers (at Douglas Park)

This tie took 600mins to settle.

Two additions and one correction -

86/7 Dundee v Meadowbank 2nd Replay was at Dens Park
81/2 Montrose v Elgin game was at Keith

75/6 Berwick v Brechin game was at Easter Road, not Shielfield

I was surprised that there were so few matches on the list, perhaps influenced by the fact that I attended four of them.
1983-84... Stirling v Arbroath... Gayfield
1986-87... Aberdeen v Celtic... Neutral (Dens)
1986-87... Peterhead v Raith... Neutral (Gayfield)
1987-88... Stenhousemuir v Arbroath... Neutral (Muirton Pk)
The game at Dens a wet, wet, wet Monday night and the second replay at Muirton Park was probably the coldest I've ever been at a football match (I remember someone pouring bovril into his trainers to fend off frostbite).
