Really happy with the 3 points and the way we played today, sure, the wind was awkward to play in and Ochilview was a great advert for summer football, but you can't take anything away from John Coughlin's boys. With the exception of Martin Boyle rounding Callum Antell in the first half and the penalty in the 2nd, Montrose never really threatened The Shire goal and all to often reverted to long ball tactics.

It was 2 errors that lead to both Lurinsky's goals but that's the kind of breaks we have been missing all season. A mis-kick by Sandy Wood ensured the player was one on one with the keeper and he finished well. There was also the penalty, and to be honest Wood probably should have done better with KevinTurner's header for our 3rd goal, as he seemed to dive in stages. The Montrose Goalkeeper seemed to struggle all afternoon and it was hard to see how he is keeping Michael Andrews out of the team, can any Mo fans shed some light on this? Or maybe today never done him any justice, although I remember him having a few howlers at Firs Park when he played for Forfar during Gordon Wylde's season in charge.

The Shire could have scored more, Andy Stirling had a mazy run in the first half that he failed to finish, Horner, Jackson and Lurinsky came close from range and Turner along with one of our new on-loan players (might have been Ramage) both shot wide from decent chances in the box. Montrose had a stonewall penalty turned down; however the penalty they won was incredibly soft so I suppose it all evens out as they say.

Today's game showed that we are capable of picking up points, and although we are slightly isolated at the bottom, we are not down and out, which to be honest I thought we were after last weeks result at Peterhead. The back 4 looked as steady as I have seen them this season, so good in fact that Callum Antell was a spectator for much of the match, something he hasn't had the luxury of this season. I thought, Stirling, Lurinsky and Horner done really well covering the pitch, Defending when needed but also supporting Kevin Turner in the lone Striker role.

I'm a realist however and will not be getting carried away. Montrose we very poor today and we got a few lucky breaks, but all in all everyone associated with the club can go to work with a smile on our faces come Monday morning now.

A good win for the Shire... No doubt.

I'm struggling to get the energy to comment on the game but I'll make a few points. The wind affected the game so much that if you want an advert for summer football, then watch the film.
Montrose didn't play very well at all and is so disappointing after the Clyde game, maybe Clyde are that bad at the moment.
The shires 2nd from the penalty spot (which was a pen no doubt) came about 1 minute after Montrose had a penalty turned down which looked a stitched pen on to me.
The Pen we did get was maybe soft but I see no real difference from the first Mo shout.
Then the 3rd Pen shout at 3-1 down was the stone waller. How the linesman just stood there and watched it with a clear view is beyond me. We shouldn't need Pens to win games though.
Still we didn't play well enough to get anything from the game, and the Shire grew in confidence as the goals went in. At 3-1 the Shire started sitting to far back and look vunerable but we couldn't do anything about it.

After last week we thought we were turning the corner to better times and Shire were feeling down and out after losing at Peterhead. After yesterday suddenly it's a reality check for both teams. Mind you Clyde are still getting regular reality checks.

Well done Shire though - but get you next time!

Alloa Shire said all I was going to say.
If we win next week I'll allow my hopes to rise.

sounded poor and a really bad week to do it.

To the Shire lads who were puzzled about Andrews. He has been pretty average with the odd good game and some dreadful performances this season. He has no command over his defence, made some really awful f**k ups and was fairly poor at corners etc.

Sandy Wood (other than Saturday) was cracking in preseason, has trained hard and did well in friendlies throughout. He was fairly unlucky to be dropped for the incoming Andrews. It was time for Andrews to take a stint on the bench as he had been costing goals fairly frequently. Since Sandy has come in, he has done well and made a big difference (defence has been organised, more solid and we have been winning more games) but like all keeper, has had a bad game.

Its up to Stuart and Ray to do as they see fit; SG knows whats what with keepers!

Thanks for that Mon The Mo, as many supporters do, you kind of look out for the players that used to play for you and I'm personally always keen to hear how they are getting on.

Absolutely. I've got no doubt MA will be back in the fold at some point. I think it is healthy to have two guys vying for the shirt!

Are you "shouting" at me in Caps Lock because you are angry?!?!?

Not at H&A this season. Did pretty much all Home and Away games for the last 5 years but I'm elsewhere most Saturdays this year.

When I have seen (and from reports I have had from most games) Wood in the sticks he has punched, slapped and rebounded anything in the air to relative safety. I don't think there is much between em, sure Andrews is technically better but he had a bad time of it and was rotated. MA will no doubt be back in at some point, just hope he has taken stock and learned from it :)

I've been pretty happy with what I have seen this season both on and off the pitch; the club is moving in all the right directions off the park and is certainly entertaining on it. I think we will have a decent squad next year and should be able to attract some more signings with the extra cash we will have; that combined with the philosophy and quality of football we are playing; it is only a matter of time before we start getting a support back to LP on a Sat.
