Berwick should have went out of there way to keep Craig valentine as yano,s assistant manager as he was always a good motivator
when he played with Berwick and Alloa and was also good at getting the best out of the players great captain for both teams when the heads went down.

Big loss as with a bit more experience and time on the managerial side he would be a very success-full coach / manger in the future.

What has happened to Andy Mclean? his form has been terrible this season and the video footage from yesterday didn't do him any favours.

What has struck me in the last few weeks is that our opponent's seem to pinpoint the weak links in our team quickly and exploit those areas. It is clear they have watched us in previous games and put their analysis to good use.

Does anyone know if we employ someone to attend games of our future opponents? Coughlin used to do this to great effect but not sure it has happened since he left the club.

Cowden record their games and analyse it in training, it was on Radio Borders the other week. We don't bother.

It's difficult to over state the value of video as a coaching tool.

If I was in charge of any club I would insist my coaching staff had every match filmed for post match analysis and coaching purposes.

Most of our games arnt filmed, certainly not by us. I know there was an appeal a few years ago to try and get someone to do it, but nobody volunteered. Might be worth paying a media student £20 or £30 to do it or something.

Totally agree.

Again, good idea but would this really be how it would be implemented? We're that stuck behind the times that if we did record the games i'd find it hard to believe it'd get used for training, probably just done as a highlights thing. We need to start taking steps in to the modern day game.

If I lived locally,I would film the games. there is a great opportunity for someone to get on board and start filming each home game, reserve fixtures , all of them all. From that will come more work guaranteed. But hey it's much easier to sit on the sidelines and snipe.
Look at the website, sure it's not that modern and it doesn't use Flash or Wordpress but it's now updated after every game. The person who has got off his arse and been proactive deserves a bit more credit than we are giving him/her.
I bet the person who runs Elgin TV isn't getting paid by the club but I bet you (s)he has started getting work from other sources.
Video is going to be massive this year and next so any students out there want to come down to Manchester for a couple of days, I will help get you started. I believe the club has a camera, you need a Pc (mac preferable) and a bit of 'get up and go', the rest you can learn
What you waiting for?

PS Asking for Little to be sacked already is just plain stupid, 3 managers in one year won't give us a better team

I've not a problem with people getting off their arse and helping the club, that's great, but I dont understand the decision to axe a better website in favour of this one. Just have the person update the old one on a more regular basis. You have the design, and you have someone willing to update content. They could have merged the two together.

Anyway, that sounds good Doug. I'm sure they could find somebody willing. The only thing though, as Dale mentions is do we have the facilities to even show the players the coverage at training. No idea where we actually even train, never mind whether it would have a screen to show the players the important parts of each game to analyse.

Guys, where do you get off on this kind of stuff?

You might have noticed that several of our home games this season have been highlighted on SFL TV. This is thanks to the effort of a willing volunteer, a local girl who's a media student at Edinburgh. She has no interest in football, but stepped in when appeals to fans failed to attract anyone who was prepared to give up even one Saturday to take a turn behind the camera. Recently she's been unable to do it due to family commitments, so one of my staff stepped in to cover, and she also gives up her time to do an brief edit and send it off to the League within 48 hours of the match. She's also started burning copies to DVD for Ian Little to use, and sends a copy to our former under-19 coach in Liverpool who gives up his time to put the footage through an SFA analysis software programme.

For their efforts on behalf of the club to be dismissed in such a throw -away fashion is quite pathetic.

To be fair, her efforts aren't bein dismissed in such a throw-away fashion, because we didn't know this was actually taking place. It hasn't been mentioned anywhere, and they haven't appeared on our website. Had I known, I would have visited the SFL site to view the home games I've missed.

Great that someone has given their time up to help though, but you can't blame fans for wanting something they had no idea existed. Communication breakdown as opposed to a blast at someone we didn't know existed.

As previously said why oh why isn't there a link on the club website. Living miles away I'd visit most weeks !!!!

However ths does highlight a major problem in the club, communication , surely the mud slinging here would be greatly reduced if the club's offical line was there for all to see BEFORE the rumour mill starts churning out.

As John you have mentioned such is the importance of communication how about the club offering a little renumeration instead of relying on volunteers.

Don't keep it secret it might actually find favour with the fans

No, I might not have noticed that any of our highlights are on SFL TV, minus away games, as i've worked under the assumption that through no official word being given, that there has been no recordings of any games. I'd personally see this item worthy of at least a link on the Official Site, or a news item. Instead, nothing has been said. Personally, I think it's brilliant that both Yano and our former U19 coach have the ability to access the footage and analyse it. I'd think that was worthy of a news item on the Official Site.

I think it's brilliant that those that are putting the work in are putting the work in on any basis, let alone a voluntary one. To claim that we're the ones dismissing their efforts when in fact we, the fans, have never been informed of any such processes is ridiculous in my opinion. If these things are happening, we should be informed of them, and the club themselves should be looking at thanking them for the work they do on means outwith P&B, such as the Official Site, or even Radio Borders which is where I found out that Cowdenbeath were doing the same process. If Cowden can get a spot i'm sure we can. That way the only thing you'll hear about of them on here is positive. It's not rocket science.

Edit: This by the way, isn't a dig at whoever runs the Official Site. It's information that is evidently either not being supplied or being deemed as not worthy. If the latter is the case, then people can't complain when folk question why we're not doing things.

I had noticed a camera at rear of stand at most of our home games so assumed it was filming for Berwick. All I did then was on the following Friday go to the SFL website and TV Link and heh presto our home game was there amongst others. Easy as that and easy to find.

Okay, so forgiving my stupidity, how are fans that aren't from Berwick supposed to be aware?

Good point, however unfortunately I haven't got the eyes of a hawk to spot a camera from 300 yards away.

Maybe we should play eye spy or Treasure Hunt in The Ducket in order to find out what the club have in store for us next. ;)

More chance of us finding out what goes on behind the Hens and Chickens skip than Shielfield nowadays.

Why would Berwick want advertise the fact that they use video to scrutinise opponents? It's a powerful tool to keep in the locker.

Primarily because the SFL, through an external contract, have the resources to take 90 minutes of footage and make a few minutes highlights out of it, together with commentary and professional presentation. But as a few other clubs, such as Elgin, can do it, I'll make some enquiries.

It is great to see something really positive happen through fans of the club talking about things that can be done to help, instead of a constant moan forum.
It is about how we can help Yano get the club moving upwards, so lets hope someone can do a bit of filming, and if it gets to us exiles on the web brilliant.
Even if just Yano sees it,that would be better than nothing. Hope you get something sorted John.
Agree with the communication stuff, could do better BRFC.
In my dreams I saw Eric from Berwick....
