Surely the rise of the football forum in particular the junior ones over the last few years has been a good one for the game . Last week or two i have heard guys on radio and podcasts slate the forums , they are places where you only read nonsense according to them.
Sure you get nonsense written but these forums are by and large places where you can communicate with fans years ago you would probably not got to know .
Some managers will like them some will hate them , some players will love them some will hate them , most committee's will no doubt hate them because things are now all over these forums before they have announced anything
On the whole considering what it was like a few years before the junior forums really took off these forums have surely been good for the game and long may it continue i say .

It would also be interesting to hear from older supporters on how they feel about football forums as they will have spent most of there days supporting there teams without them unlike your under 25 supporters .

Incidentally i read somewhere the old kilbirnie website was the first junior website , what would of been the first club forum ? Anyone know ?

Also had a look at the yahoo forum and when you see the posts that were made around 2006 there was a heck of a lot since then its just went down and down , most probably down to the rise in popularity of pnb.

Radio and podcasts dont like forums as it cuts them out of the loop of immediate reaction to games, news, transfers, sackings, appointments and the like - in my younger days, long time ago, the only way you could find out what other fans thought was if they wrote to the paper or somehow sneaked onto the Radio Clyde phone in with Jimmy Sandison. The internet allows us to communicate in a civil manor straight after every game and more importantly pregame it allows you to find out information such as which games are on, who you are actually playing, who plays for the opposition and almost immediate communication of games that are called off.

Radio and podcasts cant compete and it sounds like two bitter men whose every word is not hung on because of forums like this - long may it continue.

I hate when you get people claming that a manager has signed for another team on forums, when they get info from a 'source'.

Pretty much it.

The pundits don't like it, because not only are the forums replacing them, they are also showing them up as incompetent and ignorant. The top names in the football press in Scotland have had it easy for too long, and are now starting to realise that they are not as indesposable as they thought they were. The good ones will still have a job, but the majority are going to have to start working for a living.

Like every form of media forums are only as good as their contributors, and most have a massive over-abundance of pointless, self important tossers with nothing worth saying who spend a hell of a lot of time saying it, or those of such profound idiocy that you wonder how they can possibly lead a functional life in the real World, until you realise that forums are their life....but then you wonder why you would give the views of that type of individual any credence.... after all you'd cross the street to avoid them in real life if you knew some of them, yet here they are talking their shite to you!

That's not to say it's all bad, just that you have to wade through some amount of shite to reach the good stuff on some forums.

The one saving grace of Junior fan forums is that they fill the niche of providing information, and will save you loads of time and money in the winter months in preventing you turning up at postponed games, so for that reason alone thy're the bawz.

I'd actually forgotten the Yahoo group was still on the go - maybe five years ago posts on it were into four figures a month, but it's just down to a trickle now.

Original Pollok forum surely pre dated the Kilbirnie one, as did the original 'Bot one?

I think it's the opposite - forums are almost like focus groups for the media to use as sounding board for what they broadcast. They've changed to exploit it's potential.

You see this more in the senior game of course, but Hugh Keevins or whoever will say things hoping his comments stir enough interest to get some thicko enraged enough to start a thread which will in turn alert people to the fact they should be listening and getting outraged too.

We still need the traditional media anyway, because a few people sitting in bedrooms pretending they have "sources" and trying to wind one another up isnae doing it for me in terms of quality journalism.

How long was the original Talbot one about from?

I only started using the newer one because the original format was horrible to read and use.

Got to be good, loads of opinions & info available. Would like to see the clubs embrace the forums, rather than see them as an enemy.
The forums offer them a free platform to publicise fixtures & clarify rumours that are circulating.

The reasons it is like that was down to it being run by one person, who only allowed what he wanted, and banned lots of people who disagreed. You sometimes get what you deserve.

Yeah that can be annoying haha
Fans from sfl clubs coming on here when not much is happening on there own forum , telling everyone how bad the juniors are or how bad a ex player of there's is .

People trolling the forum looking for certain posters is especially annoying , 99.9 per cent of the time they are talking to themselves and getting themselves banned then have the cheek to tell others how ' sad ' they are . In all probability these trolls would probably get on fairly well at a game or wherever with the posters they have taken a ' shine ' to that's the ironic thing .

I get the feeling some journalist and even our sjfa are using some forums to get there news , which is fair enough .

I agree to an extent with the comment on Hugh Keevins, but for as long as I can remember, he, along with James Traynor, have always been wind up merchants praying for a reaction to keep the folk who claim to detest them tuned in. I don't think that will ever change. I think that the 2 names I've mentioned above are pretty much what you describe in your third paragraph.

The problem they face is that people with half a brain no longer pay attention to what they say, as they have other outlets for discussing the issues they want to discuss, so the audience is gradually decreasing. In the past, the papers and the phone in's were pretty much all there was, with dissenting views only aired in the fanzines. Now with there being so many messageboards, you can air whatever view you want whenever you want, and don't need a fud with a microphone to hopefully let you share it. People don't need to sit and listen, they can post and come back later for the response.

Living down south you don't get any coverage of the juniors and only had club websites to keep you updated. Since I got told bout pnb from glensmad it's great to keep up to speed with what's going on plus the banter on the whole is good

I think PNB is a great thing and it's great to have interactions with players, fans, managers and commitee members from all over the country. I've had some great convo's with guys from Lochore, Haddington and those closer to home and I'm certain that would never have happened had it not been for this forum.

The advantage of the thread system as opposed to the Yahoo digest set-up, and what probably more or less killed off the latter is that you can vote with your feet and ignore an entire thread without having to plough through the likes of two sets of rival fans having a 10-page willy-measuring contest which ends up reading like a 1:72 scale version of the OF forum, or the more obvious fishing or trolling that is bound to happen now and again. On the other hand, you couldn't post "hilarious" disembodied heads on Yahoo. Oh wait...

I remember pre 2006 i had never used a football forum . Didn't really have a clue about other junior team's or player's or what other supporters were like. Now 5/6 years later i like to think ( though some may disagree ) that i know a fair about about the junior game , the teams , player's and supporters all through the forum's.I am sure i am not the only one who has learned a heck of a lot through these forum's as well as having a good laugh along the way.

Btw who is more popular a referee or a forum moderator ?

Never thought it was policed as stringently as others suggest. Actually looked it up today and Feb 13 1999 seems to be its inauguration date. I quite enjoyed the chat on the Yahoo board, but as has been mentioned things improve elsewhere so wading through all threads or conducting a laborious search became less appealing.

I am not complaining about it btw. Find it amusing to be honest.Actually a little like the one you got involved in to keep out people that didnt agree with you. So its not surprising you are on beating the drum.

Forums are definitely a good thing. It gets fans from all clubs talking without needing to read biased newspapers or pundits opinions.

People that criticise it for having loads of rumors and false information are stupid. Youve got to see a forum for what it is, which is people and fans talking and speculating.

You wouldnt hear a guy talking about football in a pub and expect every word to come out his mouth to be fact and 100% accurate. People shoudnt take forums too seriously.

Its good to hear other fans opinions and on certain players, managers, tactics etc.

Forums? Meh, better than radio phone ins by a mile, so long as you take it all with a pinch of salt. Life's too short!
