A good friend of mine and lifelong Ayr fan is being made redundant from our work. We are hoping to get him a nice pressie and as a self-confessed nerd and tragic follower of Ayr was thinking about something like a vintage strip/ memorobelia or something along those lines..?

Anyone got any ideas or links to reputable websites dealing in such things, was hoping to get something before the semi-final.

I'm 99% sure he doesn't read this website but if he does ..... Ross, you're a bawbag, good riddance to ye ;) !!!!

If it's not too obvious an answer try the Club Shop:

http://www.ayrunited.../store_main.asp

It sells a lot more than just replica tops and scarfs and I got all my Christmas shopping from there, including a gnome for my Mum & Dad.

What you do is give him a list of all the presents you are thinking of buying him. Really expensive presents that will get him all excited.

You then delay and delay in getting the present, telling him things like you couldn't find anything better than what he already owns. Or a guy from a bigger company is also leaving and his colleagues nipped in and got what you were going to get.

Get the boss to make a big announcement about how he is going to chip loads into the envelope.

In the end just get him something from the pound shop and tell him you only realised at the last minute it was all you could afford all along.

He'll love the irony - trust me!

How about a bit of vintage asbestos roofing from the stand? Maybe put it in a glass case or something though to make it look nicer.

Good idea Dave but this man is definitely a watcher rather than a player.

Kitty - i had a look at the club shop website but it just looked like the usual run of the mill stuff. I like the sound of the gnome though, I'll have another look!!

Everyone else ummm thanks

The glass would need to be broken to be authentic.

A nice bit of memorabilia would be a framed copy of the first division table, showing that Ayr were once a first division team :P

in true Ayr United style you should announce that you will be spending a vast amount of money and then get him nothing. Afterwards announce that what you were going to get him was 'no better than what he already has'.

He'll enjoy the Brian Reid'ness about it.8)

To be fair I didn't get your original post until honestrae framed it in the context of Ayr United. I know I'm a bit slow.. I'm sure my mate would get it though.

mrpaddy - great shout. It's now between the 60's retro shirt on that site which he'd genuinely like or the ayr u garden gnomes from the club shop which would amuse me more. :)

Cheers y'all
