Being a Hearts supporter I have seen some good players leave us for down South but at least they stuck around to establish themselves in the team
before moving on. After reading about Jack Grimmshaw leaving for Fulham at the tender age of 17 from Aberdeen, and Scott Allen leave for West Brom, is
this a sign of the times from our young players to abandon the SPL too early and deminish the league standard further in the long run? Or is it a good thing for the national team to have players learning in better facilities under more established managers and coaches?

Good thing. If players are going to receive better coaching and play with better players down south then I'm all for it.

But then there's the "he'd be better off staying with us another year and getting first team football" argument that all fans, me included, are guilty of when a talented youngster fucks off.

It's a gamble basically.

Its frustrating (obviously Motherwell have been one of the main losers in young talent going to England so you will know this), when you finally get some decent players in your team, and as soon as they are any good, they are linked with moves away as is happening with our club right now.

Id rather they went down south than to Rangers or Celtic though, i dont see any player going to them and improving our national side, they broke Broadfoot for example.

Killie knocked back several bids for Matt Kennedy in the summer from several EPL clubs. Newcastle being one of them.

Do you think he will stay beyond next season at Killie?

I think it's a good thing, because it brings money into the clubs, and it also shows that we are producing good young talent despite what some people would have you believe.

Aberdeen get £200k for an unknown entity, and % of future sales.

More than if he reached his early 20s but wasn't cutting it.

Less than if he reached his early 20s and was an elite talent.

So it's all a guessing game, tbh.

It doesn't particularly help the quality of the league if talent leaves younger; but it may help the national team.

We knocked back £1m from rangers for mark Reynolds and staying with us for first team football did nothing but hamper his career.

Paul Slane fucked off to celtic and gets the odd game for their development squad when he isn't having his balsa wood legs fixed.

Its a lottery

A lot of Aberdeen fans are quite bitter about Grimmer leaving. I must say I'm disappointed and I think he's made the wrong decision, same goes for Scott Allan but I genuinely hope that both of them do well and prove me wrong as it can only be good for the national team but I do think that they have left too early. However as HibeeJibee has pointed out Aberdeen have made a bit of a financial gain from this and could be invested in more youth products (but you could argue that this would be pointless as any god looking player will be picked up by a Premiership team) or investing in the current squad either way we know that young players in Scotland would rather play in the England and we cannot stop them.

I agree, I see it as a good sign. It is frustrating as a fan that as soon as you get a player who looks good they are linked with a move elsewhere, but that's just the harsh reality of life. The money clubs get will not match the English market at present but our clubs need money and the kind of sums being paid and talked about just now are significant in our game. In the long run if the money can be reinvested correctly it can go a long way to ensuring we develop more players and improve the game here.

This is also true - our clubs who ultimately know they have to sell at some point need to try to judge when they get the maximum income (and obviously balance that against the contribution of the player in the meantime). There are never any guarantees for the clubs or the players involved.

When did Hearts last "lose" young talent to England

We released a Striker once who is currently at Wigan and Stephen Husband to Blackpool but thats about it and neither have done anything since

I'm all for players going to England but before they've even reached twenty is a joke

Scott Allan left purely through an over-inflated ego after a MOTM performabce against Hearts which he used to try to get ludicrous wages from DU

They're well rid IMO cause players like him usually cause alot of problems See: Mikey Stewart & Ryan Stevenson under Egomaniacs

Also the national side can away and run up my ribs I couldn't be less interested

It's bad for the league

The question did not specify Scots young talent. Did we not just get Money from Wolves for Eggy?

The rest of your post, I agree with :o

ps. Just remembered young Callum Tapping from Spurs, showing that the talent goes both ways.
If you can't be good, be careful.

The English teams are taking a gamble, they have the money to buy a player from other leagues and stick them in their youth teams. Remember that we currently have a boy on trial who 'played for Arsenal and Rangers looked at signing.

To be honest, the EPL teams are no good for the younger talent, because it is so competitive and so much is riding on their successes they are not going to give any of these players games.

If I recall the best players were ones who played until their twenties and proved themselves in Scotland (McCarthy, Fletcher, Collins, and a host of other players). Allen and the Aberdeen boy have not done that. Guaranteed in 2015 one of them will be given a trial at a SPL club or next season we will be taking one on loan. Allen did well in a few games, but time will tell if he is the real deal.

It's good we have players going to England to try to better themselves, but do agree to many leaving to young. Often not getting a game and plummiting down the leagues. However in any walk of life, especially when young, hard to turn down ££££ when offered your way.

From a Scotland view point, always like to see players in the English premier league and doing well. Some do us no favours though like the awful Gary Caldwell. Sooner he ends up at a St Mirren or a Motherwell and nowhere near the national side, the better.
No more Gary Caldwell in the Scotland team.

What have we done to deserve that? And St Mirrren? Two teams try and play a bit of football and that is your proposed punishment. It's not fair Posted Image
